+ Being Human is most definitely an entirely different show now, and I can’t decide whether it’s going to be AMAZING or a hot mess. I trust Whithouse more than I do 95% of showrunners, but we’ll just have to see. I’m definitely giving it a chance because A) Annie is still the best ever, especially now that Mitchell’s gone [don’t miss you, babe!], B) Michael Socha’s sad, sad eyebrows give me feelings, and C) there’s some crazy world-building stuff going on that could potentially be awesome. So we’ll see.

+ I’m thinking of giving up tumblr for Lent. Mostly because the very idea of doing so makes me want to scream, so I know that it’s something good to give up. I could give up chocolate or something without thinking about it, but that’s not the point. Plus, tumblr takes up a significant portion of my life that could (honestly) be better employed. So we’ll see. Maybe that will happen.

+ I just got a canvas to paint something for over my parents’ bed, and I’m super excited about it. I haven’t painted since high school, but I miss it loads. I’m mostly worried I have lost ALL ability, but I guess we’ll see. If I’m not horrified by the result, I’ll take a picture and show y’all. Now I just have to buy some oils (UUUUUUGH WHY SO EXPENSIVE).

+ It’s allegedly going to get cold again. Since we’ve been enjoying a nice stretch of 65 degree days, I am petrified with fear at the idea of it dipping back below 50. NOT OKAY. Winter is stupid.

+ I’ve been, like, immersing myself in all things Nerdfighteria the past week or so, and I had forgotten how much I enjoy the Green brothers. And it occurred to me that I still haven’t read any of John Green’s books, because as we all know, I don’t really read Here and Now books? If it’s about contemporary America and doesn’t have loads of supernatural elements, I’m usually not that interested in reading it. But I have put a hold on The Fault in Our Stars at the library, so I will be reading it once I get ahold of it. I feel it is my duty as a Nerdfighter, you know.

+ It really annoys me that I never know whether a new episode of my shows will be on in a given week. It’s frustrating as anything. Because I never know whether I’ve missed an episode or whether there wasn’t a new one this week or what. They should quit with this “sometimes we air it, sometimes we don’t” thing and just do it in blocks. Take a break in the winter or whatever, sure. BUT AIR THINGS CONSISTENTLY OMG THIS IS SO ANNOYING TO ME.

+ Obviously, my life isn't terribly exciting at the moment. If yours is, tell me about it.

lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([bh] scandalized)
Contrary to the way I tend to rant whenever I hear that one of my favorite shows/movies is being remade, I don't think all remakes are a bad idea. In fact, I think taking the premise of one story and going in a completely different direction with it can result in something pretty awesome. It's just that this so very rarely happens.

So when I heard that the Syfy Channel was remaking Being Human, I wasn't entirely furious...until it became clear that they'd just changed the names and dropped the Britishness but otherwise had reshot the entire pilot with far less endearing actors. Then I was not pleased. And being me, I started casting (yes, this has been waiting to be posted since before the US show aired. Sorry it took me so long).

So think of this as what could have been.

The premise is the same: a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost all live together and try to have a normal life, which proves difficult considering that their supernatural natures keep getting in the way. But that's where the similarities end.

Oh, haaaaaaiiiiii. It’s one of those posts where I talk about how much I fail at eljay. Which is a lot. So let’s skip that part and get right to me asking how y’all are. Everything okay? Anything awesome/important that I’ve missed? What is going on with you?

Here’s what is going on with me.

Top TenFifteen Things That Are Awesome at the Moment
1. Ramin Karimloo’s existence. Yes, this really does need to be number one.
2. My family continues to be amazing. I feel like I should not be this big of a fan of my own family, but I am. Whatever. We’re awesome.
3. Working on my book! Going to the library, not hooking up to the internet, actually working. And I have decided that I will KEEP ON WRITING even when (inevitably) I hit the point when I realize that the book is stupid and worthless and no one would ever, ever want to read it. I mean, this is just the beginning, and who knows how long I can keep this up, but hopefully I’ll develop some will power? Hopefully?
4. SPRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING. THERE ARE FLOWERS. IT IS WARM. I AM SO HAPPY. It’s kind of sad how much influence the weather has on my mood. I was sitting in the library on the second floor looking out the big windows and the grass was so green I thought I was going to cry.
5. Grace/Rich OTP and their flawless, flawless scenes
6. Rereading A Song of Ice and Fire. I had forgotten how easy it is to fly through these books. SUPER READABLE.
7. DOCTOR WHO SOON SOON SOON
8. Parks and Rec continues to be flawless and the happiest show on television with beautiful OTP times and Ron Swanson being excellent and Amy Poehler being my hero and lots more people starting to watch it. If you aren’t watching this show, I have nothing to say to you. I feel towards you the way the entirety of Pawnee feels about people who don’t appreciate Lil Sebastian (speaking of which, I want a t-shirt. I don’t even wear t-shirts, but I would wear that one).
9. Freya Mavor’s face. How is she possible? I don’t understand. I still think that if they insist on casting a blonde girl for the new Buffy reboot (instead of going with my race!swap idea), they should cast her, regardless of the fact that she is British. I think she’s the only person at this point that I would forgive for not being SMG.
10. Persephone Magazine changing their layout so that I can ACTUALLY READ IT. This website is what Jezebel wishes it were. Except better.
11. Watching The X-Files for the first time and the mytharc actually showing up. I love worldbuilding!
12. I’m going to In the Heights this weekend! Yay! I don’t know any of the music, but I’m super excited, because I hear excellent things.
13. Riding in my truck with the windows down and singing Marina and the Diamonds songs on the top of my lungs
14. My family made beignets on Sunday. NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM.
15. The Being Human finale. This would be higher up the list except that it was a couple of weeks ago now. But still. Well played, Toby Whithouse. Well played.

Top TenNine Things That Suck at the Moment
1. The world is actually a mess. I can’t even address it—I get too overwhelmed. But I keep hearing Yeats in my head: “For the world’s more full of weeping than you can understand.”
2. Steve Moffat’s ridiculous sexism coming through in an actual episode. HAHAHA ELEVEN TELLING AMY TO PUT ON TROUSERS. Except that’s not funny at all, Moff. Don’t do this to me. Seriously—don’t.
3. My boss is ridiculous *eyeroll*
4. Allergies impending. I feel them coming on. The one downside of spring arriving.
5. I actually do fail at lj. I just get overwhelmed by thinking about catching up with my flist, and it’s easier to avoid. I apologize for being a very bad friend.
6. No idea what I’ll be writing for [livejournal.com profile] seasonal_spuffy. Haven’t been in a BtVS frame of mind for a while.
7. Community continues to fail at race so hard that it ruins episodes that HAVE MY FUTURE HUSBAND AS A GUEST STAR. Seriously, Dan Harmon. We need to have a word.
8. Gas is ridiculously expensive. *sigh*
9. I am not married to Ramin Karimloo.

Also, I need to tell you a story about how awesome my mama is. cut for length )

lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([bh] scandalized)
1. Most important: I got hopelessly, hopelessly behind on my flist over the past week or two. As such, I’m certain I missed some things I didn’t want to miss. I’m going to try to wade through this weekend, but if you posted something (or saw that someone else posted something) that you know I’d want to see and I didn’t comment on it? Could you please give me a link? I’d love you forever! Not that I already don’t, because I do. But I’d love you forever longer.

2. Probably RPF will be popping up in my journal at some point. I know this makes several of you DELIRIOUSLY HAPPY and several more of you completely squicked. BUT I CANNOT RESIST THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS ANDREW/JESSE/EMMA/CAREY, OKAY? So that will probably happen. Fair warning.

3. I read a delightful little fic earlier that I think probably quite a lot of you missed. If you like Gilmore Girls, and you like Rory/Jess (and who doesn’t?), you should read Alice, about the next Gilmore girl. Awesome characterization and fun prose. I enjoyed it immensely.

4. The brilliantly wonderful in every conceivable way [livejournal.com profile] laeria wrote me ELEVEN AND RIVER BABYSIT LITTLE PONDS FIC. OH YES. THAT HAPPENED. I am so obsessed with the idea of little Ponds, y’all don’t even know. If I had my dream!season of Doctor Who, it would involve skipping forward in time about ten years and Amy and Rory AND THEIR CHILDREN running around in the Tardis with the Doctor and River and generally being so awesome I can’t even think about it.

5. BEING HUMAN. IN A MATTER OF DAYS. I MIGHT DIE OF EXCITEMENT. ANNIE ANNIE ANNIE AND GEORGE AND MITCHELL AND NINA. OMG SHOW! If you’re not watching that show, you really, really should be. I can’t think of a single reason not to. Except lack of access, I suppose. But other than that—no excuses.

6. I am having the world’s hardest time casting the James Garner character in my Great Escape gender swap. I’ve figured out everybody else! Why is he so difficult? Any suggestions? HARD.

7. I want to rant about something, and it involves spoilers for last night’s Community, so the rest of this is going behind a cut where I can rant about Community, Supernatural, hipsters, irony, and meta-ness, among other things )

Anyways. Sorry for that ridiculous rant. I just needed to get it out of my system. I now return you to your regularly scheduled fangirling. Always in progress.

So [livejournal.com profile] finkpishnets will be most thrilled to hear that I have finished the first season of Being Human. And that I love it.

She will not be pleased to hear that I still like the original Mitchell better.

But! She will again be pleased to hear that I fangirl Annie like you would not believe, and that the OT3 love is strong with me. THEY ARE ALL MARRIED ALL TOGETHER. (Follow that link and let it convince you to watch the show.) Y'all, there is domesticity and hilarity and really poignant moments and fantastic plotting and general awesomeness to be had. Get on the bandwagon! A vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost sharing a house! And trying to be human! Awesomeness!

Photobucket

And now I am going to ramble about the show, and there will be spoilers and flail and capslocks and stuff )

But yes. I love this show, and I want everyone to watch it for it is made of loveliness. The. End.
