some things

+ Being Human is most definitely an entirely different show now, and I can’t decide whether it’s going to be AMAZING or a hot mess. I trust Whithouse more than I do 95% of showrunners, but we’ll just have to see. I’m definitely giving it a chance because A) Annie is still the best ever, especially now that Mitchell’s gone [don’t miss you, babe!], B) Michael Socha’s sad, sad eyebrows give me feelings, and C) there’s some crazy world-building stuff going on that could potentially be awesome. So we’ll see.

+ I’m thinking of giving up tumblr for Lent. Mostly because the very idea of doing so makes me want to scream, so I know that it’s something good to give up. I could give up chocolate or something without thinking about it, but that’s not the point. Plus, tumblr takes up a significant portion of my life that could (honestly) be better employed. So we’ll see. Maybe that will happen.

+ I just got a canvas to paint something for over my parents’ bed, and I’m super excited about it. I haven’t painted since high school, but I miss it loads. I’m mostly worried I have lost ALL ability, but I guess we’ll see. If I’m not horrified by the result, I’ll take a picture and show y’all. Now I just have to buy some oils (UUUUUUGH WHY SO EXPENSIVE).

+ It’s allegedly going to get cold again. Since we’ve been enjoying a nice stretch of 65 degree days, I am petrified with fear at the idea of it dipping back below 50. NOT OKAY. Winter is stupid.

+ I’ve been, like, immersing myself in all things Nerdfighteria the past week or so, and I had forgotten how much I enjoy the Green brothers. And it occurred to me that I still haven’t read any of John Green’s books, because as we all know, I don’t really read Here and Now books? If it’s about contemporary America and doesn’t have loads of supernatural elements, I’m usually not that interested in reading it. But I have put a hold on The Fault in Our Stars at the library, so I will be reading it once I get ahold of it. I feel it is my duty as a Nerdfighter, you know.

+ It really annoys me that I never know whether a new episode of my shows will be on in a given week. It’s frustrating as anything. Because I never know whether I’ve missed an episode or whether there wasn’t a new one this week or what. They should quit with this “sometimes we air it, sometimes we don’t” thing and just do it in blocks. Take a break in the winter or whatever, sure. BUT AIR THINGS CONSISTENTLY OMG THIS IS SO ANNOYING TO ME.

+ Obviously, my life isn't terribly exciting at the moment. If yours is, tell me about it.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but that they've now lost everyone but Annie does feel unsettling. It will seem like an entirely different show.

It pretty much does. Which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing--it was probably a much better decision than trying to convince viewers that nothing had changed, you know?

I liked the episode a lot (it could still go to hell but I don't think so) and while it's weird to have such a huge change in the cast it's also really interesting to have a show that reinvents itself and gets away with it.

I admire you for deciding to give up Tumblr. I've thought of doing that (mostly during exams) but I can't manage it. It's disconcerting how addictive that website is :/

I think it was a pretty good transition-y thing, what with the limits it had to work in. I'm still not convinced I'm really going to love new!vampire guy, but I like his ghost!friend and his werewolf!friend, though they probably won't be around for long.

I really hope it maintains the quality of the show. I'm actively rooting for it.

IT SO IS. Like, when I have a free moment: tumblr. We'll see if I can actually do it.

I would rec Paper Towns too! I recently reread it and fell in love with the characters all over again, plus on the second go, I could fully see how he pulls apart the manic pixie dream girl myth. I liked his other books a lot, but that one has really stuck.

And do report back on Fault in our Stars! The main reason why I'm hesitant to read it is because I know it'll probably make me sob like a baby.

Good to know! If I like this one, I'll check that one out, too. :D

See, and that's exactly what I picked it! I looooove crying over books!

I'm honestly not sure what to make of this season. I like the idea of rebuilding, but they stretched a bit to make it happen- since when could werewolves make theselves change? And a PROPHECY? Also, I'm still really annoyed about the way they handled Nina- she didn't get a death scene, her death was an ambush instead of an actual fight, the fact that she "screamed and begged" was thrown in George's face for added dramatics- I don't know. Just the way it was dealt with versus George's exit. I'm invested in Annie and Tom and Eve and the other supernatural family we saw, but- sigh. We'll see.

I think that was the point--nobody's tried it before because it would be stupid to subject yourself to that sort of pain, and who else would have a reason? I thought it made sense that it kills you. That didn't bother me.

I still think that the reason Nina's death was offscreen was that Sinead wasn't coming back for the season at all. But yeah, it could have been handled differently.

Yeah I find the current schedules so confusing with shows coming back from Xmas break to air 2 episodes and then taking yet another break. Why not just come back at the end of january in the first place and air at least 6 episodes together then??? I've seen arguments that it doesn't affect the ratings for shows to come back for just a couple of weeks and keep going on hiatus, but it always seems like it does with most of my shows Idk

Apparently part of the reason so many people got impatient with season 6 Buffy in real time viewing was because in the middle of the season they were airing one week and then taking a break the next at the time of Wrecked/DMP/Gone. There's a reason why it's often better to catch up on shows all at once on DVD, and having just one or two episodes at a time and then a break just seems like the worst way of airing episodes to me

I KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. I just don't believe this doesn't affect casual viewers. Obviously if you're super-into a show, you're going to hunt it down, but casual viewers? I just absolutely believe it has to affect them.

Yeah, I've seen people make complaints about S6 that don't make sense to me since I watched them on DVD, but I can see how they would in real-time.

Being Human 4x01 was kind of fantastic, if you could accept the massive changes the show was introducing. I have hope for this season. Remember Lia? Lia was a good change. I'm already missing George though, especially since I didn't know Tovey was leaving.

I've been thinking about giving up Tumblr too. On the one hand, such pretty graphics! Gifs! On the other hand...my life. Wasted. So it's probably worth attempting, and I know several people are going to try it.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-10 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
LIA. LOVE. Yeah, I think it has a lot of potential, and I love that the show isn't trying to pretend that it's the same that it was. They've really embraced the fact that it's completely different, and I respect that.

Yeah. Since I just became Anglican and this is my first year of doing Lent, I wanted to do something that I know will really make a positive difference in my life, and I think giving up tumblr will be it. I will miss it, though. But that's the point.

[identity profile] mollivanders.livejournal.com 2012-02-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Did you recently change churches? For some reason I thought you've been Anglican a lot longer than a year.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-11 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I've been going to this church for probably about 9 months now? But I just placed membership, so before that I was still my non-denominational self.

But I may have talked about doing Lent last year even though the church I was going to didn't do it. Because I've always liked the idea of it, I've just never been in a situation where it's encouraged.
