lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([af] Rockin')
So I started this almost a year ago when I stumbled across a couple of pictures of Hailee Steinfeld and my mind started churning. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it's very driven by the gender roles and expectations of the time in which it was set. So the idea of swapping all the genders around excited me, since it raises all sorts of questions about how we relate to each other (if you'll forgive me for getting pretentious). Plus: this is one of my favorite ways to waste time, if you haven't figured that out already.

I finally finished it today, hemming and hawing to the end over certain roles (Lester Bangs, why must you be so difficult to cast?), but I'm pretty satisfied with the end result. I hope y'all enjoy it!

If you're new around here (and by "around here" I mean my journal), you may be unaware that I do this completely obnoxious thing where I will fall off the internet for a matter of weeks with no warning. I like to call this "hiatus-ing," but really, it's just annoying. Then I try frantically to catch up with what's been going on in everyone's lives, and it is not pretty.

So! Apologies for that, and in reward for your patience, I will not spam you with useless information about my life except to say that it is FREAKIN' COLD here, and I do not approve at all. Someone remind me why humans don't hibernate?

Also, I want to remind you that May is still hosting
THE CROSS-A-DRABBLE MEME
and there's some incredibly amazing stuff going on over there: lots of unexpected things (did you ever in your life think you'd be able to read an Edmund Pevensie/Wendy Darling fic?), and all that I've read has been lovely.

I also just posted an Almost Famous/The Virgin Suicides fic pairing William Miller and his adorable self with Lux Lisbon called One More Song About Moving Along the Highway, and I'm going to shove modesty to the side and say that I think it's really good, so you might want to check it out.

Also, a few of my Spuffy pieces have been nominated at the Fang Fetish Awards, which totally makes my year.  Thanks so much to whoever nominated me!

Now! Links!

*  Stephen King has pissed off the Twihards by daring to say that Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn.  The fallout is hilarious.

* First off, let's all try to contain our fury: someone is remaking Bonnie and Clyde. On top of that, Hilary Duff is going to be Bonnie. Which is enough to make me want to go to the Dark Side and blow up planets and things, but I'm trying not to think about it. What I am thinking about is how neither Hilary Duff nor Faye Dunaway is proving to be very classy: they've started a fued. Oh, ladies. Not that I don't understand why Faye is so upset--I do--but still. Didn't thier mamas teach them better than this?

* This sounds like the greatest book ever, and I will totally buy a copy. How did someone know that I'd been waiting all my life for the combination of costume dramas and zombies?!?!?!

* If that upset you, please to be going here, where you can read the entire plot of Pride and Prejudice in facebook form. My favorite link of the month.

* For the grammar Nazis among us, this is my new favorite blog: The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks. Glorious.

* This Buffyverse vid made my day.

* Neil Gaiman won the Newbery Award! I haven't read the book yet, but I'm thrilled for him.

Now. I'm off again to get some more writing done and to try to catch up with y'all. Peace!

So [profile] rosie1234 was talking about the movie 27 Dresses on her journal today, and it reminded me that even though I feel kind of lukewarm about that movie--chickflicks are not my movie of choice, and I didn't think it was an especially good one at any rate--it did have one of my favorite movie moments of the last year.

You know, the part where they're singing Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets" in the bar and they're singing the words completely wrong and they're drunk and it's awesome?

No?  Well, watch.

And then that got me to thinking of my favorite moments in (non-musical) movies that have my favorite musical moments.   The ones that I watch over and over again because they make me happy to be alive.  And then I thought I'd create my own meme and share them with you.

So, yeah.  There they are.  What am I missing?
