Soundtrack of Life

So [profile] rosie1234 was talking about the movie 27 Dresses on her journal today, and it reminded me that even though I feel kind of lukewarm about that movie--chickflicks are not my movie of choice, and I didn't think it was an especially good one at any rate--it did have one of my favorite movie moments of the last year.

You know, the part where they're singing Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets" in the bar and they're singing the words completely wrong and they're drunk and it's awesome?

No?  Well, watch.

And then that got me to thinking of my favorite moments in (non-musical) movies that have my favorite musical moments.   The ones that I watch over and over again because they make me happy to be alive.  And then I thought I'd create my own meme and share them with you.

"Tiny Dancer," Almost Famous

This is obviously the first one that I think of.  I can't tell you how many times I've watched this scene and I never get tired of it.  It's one of my favorite movie moments ever.

"In Your Eyes," Say Anything

Don't even pretend like you don't melt in that scene--it's become totally iconic.  Oh, John Cusack.  Stand outside my window and play that song.

"Waltz for a Night," Before Sunset

The setup for quite possibly my favorite ending to any movie ever.

The telephone conversation, The Virgin Suicides

I don't think anyone has ever taken the "music says it better" thing more seriously or used it so powerfully.

"Can't Take My Eyes Off You," Ten Things I Hate About You

Okay, so it's cheesy and not as iconic as the other ones.  But it's Heath Ledger.  Singing.  Making a fool of himself.  Love.

So, yeah.  There they are.  What am I missing?

hahaha. it's funny, because i always flash to say anything, too! and, after that, bring it on.

but, hahaha! this meme is win. i shall steal it and make my own. one day. ;)

Say Anything kicks ass! But it's honestly been so long since I've seen Bring It On that I can't even remember any moments from it. *reminds self to rewatch once home*

Glad you liked it! I'll definitely enjoy if you steal!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

watch you discover that those aren't even the words. ;)

See, posts like this are why you need to watch Moulin Rouge. The pre-finale song will set you up to have your heart crushed in the finale. And pretty much all the songs are awesome, too.

Oh, Heath Ledger + that scene = ftw. The little sister tries so hard to ruin that movie, and Heath Ledger's musical number is just all, "Dude. Not happening."

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
I promise you I will give it a try someday, just for you.

I know! It's one of those movies I feel like I'm not supposed to love, but Heath Ledger! And baby Joseph Gordon-Levitt! How can you not love it?

[identity profile] ava-leigh-fitz.livejournal.com 2008-06-12 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, the first one alone put a smile on my face. But then. Oh Lloyd. I don't think I'll ever love any character quite as much as you.

You have to see Moulin Rouge. It's amazing. A-mazing. (And the finale is the best thing ever)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you and your Lloyd love. I love him, too, but I don't think my love for him can compete with yours.

And I will be adding Moulin Rouge to my list if both you and Erin speak so highly of it.

Also? Icon love!

Yeah, my Lloyd love is pretty ridiculous. I think it's mainly due for my insane love for John Cusack though.

It's a lovely film just to watch for the set alone. It's light hearted and yet not and absolutely gorgeous. I love Baz Lurhmann kind of a lot, he never disappoints.

I know right? That scene never fails to break my heart.

Yeah, John Cusack is pretty much love.

Yeah, I totally cried at that part.

*makes a mental note to watch Say Anything as soon as I get home*
