Aaron Sorkin is a ridiculously talented man. The West Wing is a ridiculously awesome show. But one way in which they both fail is in portrayals of people of color. Charlie Young was written into the show specifically because they didn't have any characters of color--the epitome of tokenism. But our world isn't whitewashed, and neither is the White House, and this is what it might look like if the characters from The West Wing had their races swapped.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gingerwall for helping me find a Leo! You're the best!

Note: I haven't made it past Season 5 of the show yet because I am a bad person. So think of this as a race!swap for the first four seasons.

I'm really pleased with everyone I've cast so far, but there are two people I just can't find the right person for. It's really annoying.

I need someone to play Leo who can play grumpy old man but also have warmth and humor and dignity like John Spencer. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO FIND SOMEONE.

I also need someone for Danny, and I also CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHO TO CAST.

Oh, and they need to be people who might realistically be on television. So no suggestions of Morgan Freeman, as much as I love him, okay?

Do y'all have any thoughts? Any thoughts at all?

I wants happiness! *stomps foot* So I'm gonna make some right here.

Earlier today I realized that I didn't watch Arsenic and Old Lace around Halloween like I meant to. And that made me realize that I have lots of holiday tradition movies/shows.

So let's talk Thanksgiving, 'cause that's the one that's almost here. We can talk about the others when they arrive.

What episodes (or movies!) will you be watching, those of you who are Americans or who love American TV and just want a reason to watch some great episodes?

I'm gonna be watching "Pangs," obviously, from whence comes my favorite Thanksgiving quote: "To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice. With pie."

And also various West Wing episodes because nothing is more fun than listening to Sam Seaborn pitch his TV show about the Pilgrims: "By day they churn butter and worship according to their own beliefs. By night they solves crimes." ALSO TURKEYS IN CJ'S OFFICE, OKAY???

Am I missing something? What other shows have awesome Thanksgiving episodes? What do I need to be watching this week?

You know what kind of sucks?

Right at this very moment, I kind of really want to write a long, long Sam/Ainsley fic just because.

But it's NaNoWriMo month, and I'm already behind.

It's kind of hard to shift your mind from a love story about witty, bantery ideological opposites in love against the backdrop 21st century politics to a darkish pseudo-Victorian YA fantasy novel about the nature of family.

*sigh*

You should all be doing this now:

Because it's a chance to FIX EVERYTHING.

And yes, yes, I have already written Sam/Ainsley fic and asked for more and demanded that people write me Jackie/Hyde fic, because I AM LIKE THAT.

DO IT.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] anythingbutgrey for turning her misfortune into a fic-a-thon!

It’s [livejournal.com profile] angearia‘s birthday! And because I’m the Worst Person Ever, I don’t have fic written for her (I’m working on it. It’ll happen this week!). I do, however, have something she (and [livejournal.com profile] eowyn_315) has been waiting for for a while now: my West Wing reaction post! So I hope you enjoy reading it and that it makes your birthday better!

Yay!

This is my reaction to the first two seasons, which is all I’ve seen so far. I’m sure I’m leaving stuff out and forgetting things, so feel free to throw questions at me. Also, I’m probably not going to read through it before I post it, so if there’s lots of grammar!fail (which there probably will be) just ignore it. Or point it out to me and I’ll fix it. But don’t point out the fact that this has no structure to it at all and I just randomly jump from topic to topic as it enters my mind. Don’t, because I already know that.

It’s long and obnoxiously flaily and stupidly full of random capitalization and I’m warning you now, okay? Brace yourself.

nonstop flailing here )

Before I close, a note: I'm not horny (and if I was, I wouldn't tell you), I just wanted to use this moodtheme option because there isn't an "in love" option, and basically I want to make out with this show the way Donna wants to make out with Eric. So there.
