Yuletide = panic. I just don't know about this, y'all. I just don't know.

Meeting up with high school friends (including childhood BFF who I haven't seen in like three years and who just got engaged to a guy I've never met and who I suspect is a completely different person now and I will have nothing in common with) = weird. We'll see.

Trying to get all of my fic into the AO3 = TEDIOUS. Why do I use so many italics? Why oh why oh why?

BFF having gone back to her hometown for Christmas = SUUUUUCK.

Most of the people I know (most of my friends are either still students or have become teachers) getting like a month off for break while I get two days = SUUUUCK X 1000.

Trying to get all of my life together and be an adult so that I can move out of the house = SCARY AS HELL. AS HELL. ASK DEAN WINCHESTER. AND ANGEL. THEY KNOW. HELL IS SCARY YO.

Not having gotten presents yet = not that bad, surprisingly. I don't give to many people. I just gift with my time.

Meeting up with future roommate to chat = kinda fun, even though I spent the whole time wondering what her reaction will be when she figures out how big of a geek I am.

Spending lots of time at work on the TV Tropes Wiki = WIN.

Me failing at lj by not replying to seven zillion comments = typical. But still made of fail.

Dollhouse = conflicted. Again.

But!

ENVER = LOOOOOVE. Also Topher = getting more awesome and lovable with each subsequent episode.

Yeah. That's about all the math I know.

Ah!

Y'all! There's an all-fandom Three Sentence Fic-a-thon going on here and y'all should all go participate immediately. Immediately.

My first (of hopefully many) prompt reply is here: Edmund, Narnia, maps. That's right.

And [livejournal.com profile] redsilverchains has invented the genius-pairing-you-never-knew-you-wanted: Sara Crewe/Colin Craven. THAT'S RIGHT. Read it here.

So...this might be the excuse I've been waiting for to write that babyfic I've been meaning to get around to....

Day of Indulgence, right here. Write whatever the heck you want, without judgment. Check it out.

Also, I know I've got six zillion comments to reply to (and how much do I love how my super-angry post last night took off that way?), but it might be a bit before I do because MY SISTER'S GETTING BACK FROM EUROPE TONIGHT!!!! These have been a very long three months without her, and I expect over the next couple of days to be spending most of my time with her, so don't think I'm neglecting you: I just love her more. ;) But who knows; I may post seven drabbles tomorrow. We'll see. Fab prompts, people!

Also, this tag should have existed long, long ago.

So. Apparently, I have written so many fics that I can't fit them all in one sticky post. For some reason, this makes me depressed, maybe because of my inability to complete any of the novels I've been meaning to write for years (though! I'm super excited about the one I'm sort-of-kind-of working on! It's this Southern Gothic fantasy thing with ghosts and roadtrips and cousins and probably Civil War reenactors. And crazy, scary trees. Because I'm like that).

So I'm working on overhauling my Master List of Fics, and I'm thinking of putting drabbles and crossovers together in one post. Though I fear this will lead to them being neglected.

Anyways, because I should be working my Yuletide fic, and because I'm feeling kind of blah because it's dark and rainy and generally nasty outside, I need something to distract me.

So! Drabbles. Ficlets. Whatever you want to call them. I'm offering. Give me a fandom, a character/pairing, and a prompt. And this time, no Buffyverse stuff, please? Unless it's a crossover. Then it's acceptable. Things tend to skew heavily Buffy-wards with my flist, which is no surprise, but I want to branch out a bit right now.

Aaaand...GO!

I finally finished signing up for Yultide--it took FOR-E-VER. Probably because I signed up to write about fifteen or twenty different fandoms. I'm honestly more excited about the writing than than I am the receiving. There were so many fandoms listed that I never would have thought of writing for, but that I love more than words, and each time I saw a new fandom I was familiar with pop up, I got about million ideas in my head. It's so lovely! I can't wait! Yay writing!

Oh, God.

It's up.

I had really reached the point where I thought it would never, ever be finished. I'm still all paranoid about it. But--

it's up.

It's nice to be able to breathe again.

Now I'm going to collapse. And let myself sleep late in the morning.

I now have a special tag just for entries where I ask my flist stupid questions! What does that say about me?

Using a cut just in case anybody hasn't seen "Epitaph One" yet.

Does anybody know anything about guns? )

And yes, that means my Victor/Sierra fic I've been wanting to write/working on since, like, "Man on the Street" back in March might actually happen! Yay!

Everybody's doing it! (By everybody, I mean [livejournal.com profile] angearia and [livejournal.com profile] snickfic, of course!) I don't have any confidence I'll do it nearly as well as they have, but I'll take a whack at it nonetheless because theirs were so fun.

Give me the title of a story I've never written, and feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will tell you any of: the first sentence, the last sentence, the thing that made me want to write it, the biggest problem I had while writing it, why it almost never got posted, the scene that hit the cutting room floor but that I wish I'd been able to salvage, or something else that I want readers to know.

I've never done a meta about any of my own fics before, but in light of an extremely interesting discussion on [livejournal.com profile] snickfic's journal, I was inspired to really explore what I wanted to accomplish with Kaleidoscope. It's the fic that is the most read (or at least most-reviewed) and most-awarded of my Buffy fics, and it was also my first fic in the fandom, so it seems a decent place to start.

[livejournal.com profile] snickfic was commenting on how off-putting it can be in fic "when the purpose of one or more secondary characters is to have Insights about the main character, independent of their own character development." I think this is a very true statement (we in particular talked about how this sort of device mistreats Tara so horribly), and--of course--it made me think of my fanfic that is the story of Buffy and Spike through the lenses of all the other characters. I think the story works, but why? I'm going to ramble about that for a while, if anyone's interested.

There are two things to keep in mind here: I actually love seeing a character/couple/friendship/place that I love through the eyes of another character when that character doesn't suffer because of it. The character can't be the mouthpiece of the fangirly writer (as I note below, I sometimes fail in this regard), nor can the character act out of character--for example, thinking more about another character/pairing than he or she actually would. In this meta, I'll explore whether I think if I succeeded in sticking to those two rules.

Second, most of my writing is extremely intuitive. I don't often think, "I'm going to add this as a metaphor or a motif or for this reason or that." I write something, feel that it's right and move on, or I feel that it's wrong, and I fix it--without taking much time to figure out why it was wrong and the edit is right. Because of this, I hadn't thought of a lot of things on a conscious level until this moment. It'll be interesting to see what I find.
