lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock (Default)
I feel like I need a backup plan.

Right now I'm planning on applying to Aberyrstwyth's Archives Admin. program.* If I don't get accepted, is it possible to then turn around and apply to the MLIS program? I have no idea. I might give it a try.

But if Aberystwyth doesn't accept me at all, I need to come up with another plan that I can get excited about because, frankly, doing a distance program with UT Knoxville will just feel like the world's worst letdown after the idea of Wales.

Apparently University College Dublin also doesn't have a set deadline for application. University of Glasgow takes applications through July. Both of them have similar, accredited programs. It looks like they have slightly lower academic requirements, and I don't think they're quite as reputable as programs. I looked at this page of people who actually work for the Archives and Records Association in the UK and four of them went to Aberystwyth. They clearly produce people who know what they're doing.

I want to go to Wales. I think I'd be happiest in that small town environment rather than living in a big city. (Plus: cheaper.) But if it doesn't happen, I'm going to look at the other schools. But, oh, I really want to go to Aberystwyth. It's amazing a dream can take root so quickly.

* Still haven't heard from anyone at all about my two big Questions About My Future (*wails* Why can't I find anyone who can answer my questions?), so at this point, I'm leaning towards the archives program just because it's more appealing to me. I've always gone with my instincts in life, and if I can't get any actual information from anyone, what other choice do I have? But I have personal statements written for both programs.
