Dear Author Letter: Hurt/Comfort Exchange

Dear Author,

I'm so excited about this exchange! I adore this particular exchange! Hurt/comfort is one of my ultimate tropes, because I love watching a character trying to be strong, being overcome by some kind of vulnerability (physical/mental/emotional/whatever), and someone(s) they love comforting them. So I am certain that whatever you end up writing about some of these favorite characters of mine will be delightful.

This letter is based on my letter for last year so it's possible there might be a few additional tags that aren't in the tagset this year. You can ignore or embrace those as you see fit.

Fannish Friday: talking yourself into writing things

I'm working on my Hurt/Comfort Exchange signup and basing it on last year's signup. I was reading through my CQL prompts and found this:

Canon divergence where Wangxian have an arranged marriage and live at Lotus Pier. Madam Yu hurts WWX in some way (physically or emotionally) and LWJ becomes very protective of his husband and confronts her.

This is hilarious, because I ended up writing that fic myself late last year and it was very successful. Apparently, I just got tired of waiting for someone else to write it for me!

And then I was reading my requests for Kaz/Inej fic...and the fic I ended up writing for that very exchange was very, very similar to my requests/prompts! It just so happens that someone else wanted it too!


So tell me about a fanwork you created because you got tired of waiting for someone else to create it. Sometimes if you want something done right (or at all!), you've got to do it yourself! I'm not talking about things you get excited to create or that sneak up on you, but something you have hoped against hope that someone else will do it...and finally you throw your hands up in the air and do it yourself!

I just had such an old lady moment.

I was in the bathroom and there was someone in the stall next to me, and their phone was playing very short bits of lots of different songs. It sounded like nothing so much as someone flipping from one radio station to another. And I was getting a bit annoyed because a) stop listening to your music without headphones in public it’s rude but also b) just, like, pick a song and listen to it!

And then I heard her laughing and I realized...she must have been watching tiktok videos.

Because that's how that works, right? It's just a stream of very, very short videos? I just hadn't realized how very short and how there's absolutely no pause in between them. It sounded hellish to me, but I guess the kids like it?
