I just had such an old lady moment.

I was in the bathroom and there was someone in the stall next to me, and their phone was playing very short bits of lots of different songs. It sounded like nothing so much as someone flipping from one radio station to another. And I was getting a bit annoyed because a) stop listening to your music without headphones in public it’s rude but also b) just, like, pick a song and listen to it!

And then I heard her laughing and I realized...she must have been watching tiktok videos.

Because that's how that works, right? It's just a stream of very, very short videos? I just hadn't realized how very short and how there's absolutely no pause in between them. It sounded hellish to me, but I guess the kids like it?

XD XD XD My younger co-worker says that she mostly watches Tiktok while she's in the bathroom, so this makes a lot of sense! XD

It does seem really designed from that? From what I could gather just listening to it? In like two minutes, there must have been like 30 videos???

She was sitting on the toilet, holding onto her phone?

Ha! Yes! I have done the same before (not watching videos, but texting) so I can't really judge, but it's certainly a dangerous thing to do!

YES! Zeb had the app for a little while and the overwhelming noise of it made me feel absolutely bonkers just being in the same room with it. Shut it down!!!!!!

IT'S JUST NOISE! I am so glad we're on Tumblr where we can see a few carefully selected videos on their own!

I am so so over people just playing sound on their phones without headphones! This woman was doing it on a plane the entire time leading up to takeoff and it was driving me *bonkers*. How did we get here?!

And yes, that definitely sounds like TikTok, or vids on Instagram. Blech.

Ah, yeah, I forget about Instagram videos. I don't watch any of them, though my sister occasionally sends one to me.

I can go down a spiral of cat and dog videos on Instagram, but that's always been true as long as there's been an internet. I can haz cheeseburger??? ;P

Cat videos are their own genre and beyond reproach. They will outlive any and all platforms!

The amount of old lady moments I have even though I just hit 30 last year is astonishing. The words!Oh my god, new phrases and expressions cropping up every time I talk to teenagers...aaaahhhhh.

They'll just keep adding up! You will fall further and further and further behind, and there's no use even trying to keep up!

Heeh skipping stations would have been my first guess too, though. XD

At first, I thought she was trying to cover up crying with noise, but then I realized she was laughing not crying, and that was my only clue it was TikTok.

I am too old for TikTok as well *nods*

People occasionally post some of hte really good videos on Tumblr, and there are some good ones! (I love that guy who does the early 20th century recipes!) But that's all of it that I need.

Tiktok actually has some pretty amazing content though, but I think I was a much more pop up video type girl than you in the 90s.

I know the good stuff is there! People post some of the best videos on Tumblr and I genuinely love them! But the platform itself, with its endless stream of videos, the lack of control...that's what I can't handle. I want to intentionally choose what I watch, you know?
