lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([vm] Nuh-uh!)

Well, that’s it, I guess.

No more hope, and all that.  Done and done.

Yet another show to add to my list of favorites that have either been canceled or slaughtered by the writers.  I guess I can’t really blame the CW, what with the ratings and all.  But still, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt.  That doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed—and just a little heartbroken.

But to tell you the truth, I’m thankful they didn’t renew it in the “Veronica Mars: FBI” format.  How many of the characters would they have been willing to keep around?  Not many; that format wouldn’t lend itself to keeping around our favorites.

And Veronica Mars has always been about characters, and characters are all about relationships.  Would it have really been Veronica as we know and love her if she didn’t have Keith to come home to?  Wallace to always have her back?  Logan to snark with?  Would we have anything to love about this show with no Mac, no Weevil, no Dick, no Lamb?  Would we love it without Neptune, which is practically a character in itself?

Honestly, I’d rather see it end now than see “Veronica” in a completely new place with no familiar faces other than occasional “guest appearances” by characters that up until now had been the heart of the show.

And I still have Season 3 to look forward to on DVD.  Though I haven’t seen it yet, and I’m bracing myself to be a bit disappointed, I do know that I’ll always have two completely emotionally satisfying seasons to watch over and over again. Though I'm new to this fandom, it doesn't keep me from realizing just how great of a show this was, and it doesn't stop me from mourning its loss.

Thanks, Rob.  It’s been a pleasure.
