lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([hp] books and cleverness)
Since some of you expressed interest in some Harry Potter fic recs, I compiled a very, very random off-the-cuff list. Some of these are fics I’ve loved for a long time, others I just recently read. Not all of them are ~flawless examples of transformative works~ but hopefully you’ll find some stuff you like.

Stories about Minor Characters
Lesser Gods. She is seventeen and alive. There’s never enough Andromeda fic.

Glance. I have always had a ~thing~ for collections of one-line fics.

Those Forgotten. We aren’t all meant to be heroes. I am madly obsessed with stories about the other Hogwarts students who never see the limelight. This one makes my heart ache.

Desk Duty. A librarian's job is never done . . . especially not at Hogwarts . . . and especially when a certain toadlike High Inquisitor is nosing around. Perfect fic is perfect. This is why librarians are my heroes.

Gone Grey. I can never find enough fic about the goings-on at Hogwarts during DH, but this snippet between Seamus and Lavender is perfect.

Halflife. Where were you when your life was half over? Six stories, six days, six lives at the summit.

Tangled Webs. I have a hard time believing that people are ever really as shallow as they sometimes appear, so this fic that fleshes out Lavender Brown, specifically her motives in HBP, is marvelous.

Staccato. Small glimpses into moments between various couples.

Portraits of a War. This one makes my heart ache in all the right ways.

Some Say Love. I’m really fascinated by the fact that George ends up marrying Angelina, who was Fred’s date to the Yule Ball. There seemed like a lot of interesting stuff going on there. Thankfully, this perfectly satisfying fic tells their story. Love it.

Ron/Hermione or Ron-centric Stories
Set Alight. How Ron sees Hermione. The imagery in this one really works for me.

A Right Hufflepuff. A tiny snippet of a story that somehow manages to be a character study of both Harry and Ron. And I love the last line.

The Eyebrow Incident. For a bit of fluffy, canon-compliant pre-R/Hr. You all know I’m obsessed with [livejournal.com profile] dollsome, right? Especially her “Lamentations of A Starry-Eyed Twit,” of course, but I basically could have picked any of her fics here. I went with this one because it's canon and because she writes great Ron with fantastic dialogue.

Checkmate. Angsty R/Hr. I think this was the very first fic I ever read that gutted me.

The Hero of Hogwarts. Roooooooooon! Basically, I love this fic because it fangirls him as much as I do.

A Library with a View. I think this fic spoiled me for any possible ending to the series, because this is what I want for the Trio (specifically Ron and Hermione) after they defeated Voldemort.

Sanctity. Majorly AU R/Hr fic that hits my marriage kink. :D I don’t think I need to say more.

Draco-centric Fics (Because apparently I like stories about him now?)
A Better World. Very gen. Hits my “moments of grace between enemies” kink.

Chase This Light. I never thought I could be madly, madly obsessed with a fic about Draco, but here it is. Draco/Astoria Greengrass, written in vignettes, so the fact that it isn’t finished shouldn’t be too big of a deal. READ IT.

Kicking Down Castles. His dreams are too lowly to be castles in the air. [Draco Malfoy and remedial Muggle Studies, the summer after the war.]

Friendship Fics
The Anatomy of a Bromance. James and Sirius. "Why can't a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guy that he thinks his booty is fly?" An inside look at one of the closest friendships the world will know. Hopelessly, hopelessly silly, but there’s nothing I love more than hopelessly silly Marauders fic focused on the bromances (if y’all know of any platonic-but-intense-bromance-between-Marauders fic, please point me in that direction) and this is just such a ridiculously enjoyable look at Sirius and James. LOVE.

Cry on My Shoulder. A love letter to the Trio’s friendship.

Rose/Scorpius
Checkmate. Simple little Rose/Scorpius fic, very fun.

Vaulting Ahead. Rose Weasley is eighteen, working for the Ministry, and perfectly happy with her boring, safe life, thank you very much. Scorpius Malfoy, also eighteen, professional Quidditch player and womanizer, disagrees. Add the two together on Christmas Eve, trap them in a magical jewelry vault, and stir until simmering.

Please feel free to share links to your favorites in the comments. I am always on the lookout for awesome new fics. And since this is my journal and I can do what I want, I'll point you here, where all of my HP fic that I wrote from age, like, eighteen on resides. Some of it might even be good!
