some thoughts on pacific rim
Jul. 14th, 2013 06:20 pm+ as with 90% of entertainment, too many menfolk, not enough ladies. there is zero reason why at least one of the scientists or the command crew or whatever couldn’t have been a lady.
too many bland white guys. as always.
MAKO QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE. duh.
props for making this as un-american-centric as any action movie i’ve seen in like ever
could have done with about 70% less time spent on the ‘action’ scenes and 70% more time spent on relationships, details of life in this constant war, explorations of the ramifications of the drift, science-y stuff, worldbuilding, EVERYTHING BUT ACTION SCENES.
burn gorman was having WAY too much fun with his role that should be illegal
as with the original star wars trilogy, the world is easy to slip into precisely because it feels worn and lived in. the lack of shininess is a joy.
as always, with every action scene that happened on land, i was sitting there thinking, ‘but what about all the people dying?’ and burning with hatred for the concept of ‘collateral damage’
 idris elba is the sex
the size of everything = awe yes good
there was a trailer for cassie cla(i)re’s movie and i nearly threw up
 and now for some spoilers
I WANTED MORE STACKER/MAKO FAMILY SCENES WHY WHY WHY DIDN’T WE GET MORE OF THAT?
 i wanted more mako period
charlie hunnam wasn’t bad, but neither did have burning charisma that would have saved a bland white guy role for me. i just didn’t feel all that much for him (except being proud of him for clearly worshipping mako from day one).
THE LINE ABOUT HOW THE FIRST TIME THE KAIJU CAME THROUGH—THE DINOSAURS. i love stuff like that. it’s cheesy but i eat it up
i’m torn between feeling like they didn’t play up stacker’s death scene enough and being glad that they didn’t turn it into a typical soppy melodramatic moment?
i would have been fine if raleigh died.
FLASHBACK BABY MAKO WITH HER LITTLE BLUE COAT AND HER LITTLE RED SHOES OMG. i am positive stacker fell totally in love with her from that moment and raised her as his own baby omg.
i will probably edit this when i think of other stuff
