because we all know that i live to ship
Comment with any ship (romantic or platonic or maybe even non-existent!) from a fandom that you know I have some knowledge about, and I will rant about aforementioned ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust, depending on your ship of choice.
Caveat: If you say Buffy/Spike, I'm probably just going to link you to my manifesto.

(I AM A SELFISH ONE-TRACK HUMAN WHO IS IN FITS OF MOURNING THAT THEY'RE NOT GOING TO TOUCH FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON. Bear with.)

I do appreciate their mirroring narratives, though. And both of them as interesting people. But I don't have a ton of investment in them. It's much more of an intellectual appreciation, alas. I am sorry I do not have flaily feelings to share! Have an icon of Lucrezia being flawless in apology.

So I did not like River when she first showed up. At all. And it wasn't because of a shippy thing--I have never shipped the Doctor with anyone, so I wasn't an angry Rose fan or anything. She just drove me crazy. I was not happy when we learned she'd be showing up in Series 5.
But! Then! She did show up! And I started to really like her in the Angels episodes in S6. And then I fell head-over-heels for her in the two-part finale. Stan, definitely. I also started shipping her with the Doctor at that point, which was interesting because this was my first Doctor ship.
But my feelings EXPLODED for the two of them as a ship in the Series 6 premiere. ALL. THE. FLIRTING. NEVER STOP FLIRTING. I could seriously watch them flirt for all time. And she broke my heart with her little speech to Rory. OH MY HEART.
I want her to be in ALL THE EPISODES and for her and the Doctor to ALWAYS BE FLIRTING and for us to find out EVERYTHING ABOUT HER.

But YES this season!! I LOVE THEM NOW.

It doesn't have to be something I think you ship, after all :)

By which I mean: I love Katherine. Madly. And I do think she actually does love Stefan, to the extent that she's able to love at this point (I mostly view love as selflessness, which isn't Katherine's strong point, but). I find her fascinating in her interactions with Stefan, too--I think he'll never fully leave her behind and she's the personification of all his baggage. Their interactions are so fun, and I'd like to see an Angel-esque thing where he goes off the rails (which seems to be coming in S3) and they go all Bonnie and Clyde for a while. Obviously I don't think they're endgame, but I am always up for more of their interactions. AND ALWAYS UP FOR MORE KATHERINE FAVORITE OMG.

Okay, I know there's a lot of backlash against them, but I do not care. I love them. I love them when they're screwed up and dysfunctional and I love them when they're cute and domestic. I love them all the time. I understand Logan so much, which probably has a lot to do with it.
For one thing: CHEMISTRY. BANTER. PASSION-Y FIRE-Y FLAMES.
And I also think they do understand each other. They've shared so much: Lilly and Duncan are so formative for both of them. And I can never forget that they were friends pre-Lilly's death. I'd love to read a really good AU along the lines of Veronica's dream about a world where Lilly's still alive but Veronica ended up with Logan anyway.
On the other hand, they also can bring out the worst in each other. Veronica brings out Logan's overprotectiveness and violence and that makes Veronica shut down and withdraw emotionally. Not so good.
What I think is that they need to work on compromise. Because at this point they're going to keep clashing: Veronica's constantly throwing herself into danger and Logan can't handle that and she can't handle that he can't handle it and if they keep up like this it's just going to be an endless cycle.
I think they need to do a bit of growing up and then Logan needs to recognize that Veronica is the hero and that he can't protect her from everything, but Veronica needs to dial back her semi-death wish tendencies and be a little more careful. And if they do that, I think they could really work and be functional. Now, they'd probably still have Really! Big! Fights! but they're dramatic people. This is to be expected.
LOVE, basically.
Also: they have a lot of really good OTP scenes.

The triangular support of my BtVS obsession are Buffy-Spike/Buffy-Dawn/Spike-Dawn, as I mentioned in your journal earlier. Three-way tie for most important relationships to me. You know this.
First of all, I lovelovelove the reading of Dawn's narrative as an adoption narrative. It makes it so much more powerful that Dawn is an intruder into Buffy's life, someone she never asked for, and that both she and Buffy react to this really negatively at the outset. BUT BUFFY CHOOSES TO LOVE HER. This is so huge to me. Love is a choice. It's always a choice. This is my definition of love. And Buffy chooses to love Dawn, knowing full well who she is. And she gives her life for her.
I think that, to Buffy, Dawn represents everything that's good in her life, everything that's most human, and the fact that Dawn didn't start out as human makes this SO POWERFUL to me. As much as it makes me sad, it also makes total sense that Buffy neglects Dawn in S6, because of course she does: she's lost her hold on her own humanity, so of course she doesn't know how to interact with Dawn.
But things get better in S7, and I love the little moments they have. On the other hand, there was NOT enough Dawn in S7, and there was NOT enough sister moments. And I think the most angry I've ever been at television is "Empty Places." I've fanwanked it away that Dawn, at least, wanted Buffy out of the way so she wouldn't die again, but I seriously can't even think of DAWN KICKING HER OUT OF HER OWN HOUSE. It...does not compute. I mostly try to ignore it.
But in my future!world, they come back to a forgiving place and are very close. And Dawn goes off to college and studies lots of dead languages and probably becomes a Watcher, but she and Buffy email almost every day and call each other once a week and Dawn comes back for all the holidays and they are sisters and tease and pick at each other and cry together for the people they've lost and are generally fantastic. Because they're the most important people in each other's lives. Period.
:D

YES. Do you know, I think my favorite Buffy-Dawn moment post-early S6 is that little moment in the middle of S6 when they're strolling down Main St, shopping, I think, and talking about which stores Dawn had stolen something from. It was just so small and trivial and sisterly, and I love it. I so wish there could have been more of that.

YES YES YES.
And you know if ever wrote a long rambling Buffy-Dawn Sisters 4Ever fic, I would love every word of it.

the reason i have a fred icon is b/c amy is pretty & i needed a book one
HATE. I hate everything about them except for what they set up with Wes and Illyria, which is actually interesting. But let me back up.
I hate that Wes develops this ~obsession~ with her without even knowing her (I love how you've latched on to that line about loving her before he even knew her. UM YES. BEST TEXTUAL LINE ABOUT THE TWO OF THEM). I hate the way the Love Triangle of Doom ruins his relationship with Gunn, which I really loved. I am so beyond grossed out by the "leave them on" scene (EXCELLENT scene, but DISGUSTING as hell). I hate that when they finally get together we're supposed to believe it? WHY DOES SHE COME AROUND? We don't see it from her perspective at all except for that one scene where she's watching him do magic. I still don't understand it. And then they're supposed to be all cute and adorable? NO. He treats her like a child or a doll or something, not like a person. I also hate the way she seems to lose all personality when she's around him. There were some moments earlier when she had one (what's the one where she's on her own, the only one who can see through Jasmine?), but towards the end she's just a cipher. She exists for the men to fawn over and protect. HATE.
However. His interactions with Illyria and "The Girl in Question" (and also a certain scene or two in the finale, which I will not spoil you about) are FASCINATING. Messed up as anything, but fascinating. I eagerly await your reactions to the finale, actually. Mostly for this reason.
Was that sufficiently ranty enough for you?
