because we all know that i live to ship

Comment with any ship (romantic or platonic or maybe even non-existent!) from a fandom that you know I have some knowledge about, and I will rant about aforementioned ship. This may be incoherent gushing or exclamations of disgust, depending on your ship of choice.

Caveat: If you say Buffy/Spike, I'm probably just going to link you to my manifesto.

OH YOU MIGHTY TROLL YOU.

HATE. I hate everything about them except for what they set up with Wes and Illyria, which is actually interesting. But let me back up.

I hate that Wes develops this ~obsession~ with her without even knowing her (I love how you've latched on to that line about loving her before he even knew her. UM YES. BEST TEXTUAL LINE ABOUT THE TWO OF THEM). I hate the way the Love Triangle of Doom ruins his relationship with Gunn, which I really loved. I am so beyond grossed out by the "leave them on" scene (EXCELLENT scene, but DISGUSTING as hell). I hate that when they finally get together we're supposed to believe it? WHY DOES SHE COME AROUND? We don't see it from her perspective at all except for that one scene where she's watching him do magic. I still don't understand it. And then they're supposed to be all cute and adorable? NO. He treats her like a child or a doll or something, not like a person. I also hate the way she seems to lose all personality when she's around him. There were some moments earlier when she had one (what's the one where she's on her own, the only one who can see through Jasmine?), but towards the end she's just a cipher. She exists for the men to fawn over and protect. HATE.

However. His interactions with Illyria and "The Girl in Question" (and also a certain scene or two in the finale, which I will not spoil you about) are FASCINATING. Messed up as anything, but fascinating. I eagerly await your reactions to the finale, actually. Mostly for this reason.

Was that sufficiently ranty enough for you?

"I knew I loved you before I met you" is a Savage Garden lyric. NO, SERIOUSLY. (The song also contains the line "I think I dreamed you into life," which is oddly appropriate. In a fucked-up way which the show never actually explicitly acknowledged until after she was dead. I know some people think "leave them on" is a justification for Wes/Fred because HE WANTS TO BE WITH HER, but for me it's the opposite. He doesn't want her,, he wants a facsimile of her. Lilah in pigtails and glasses is NOT FRED, but apparently it's enough for him. Eurgh.

[livejournal.com profile] eleusis_walks speculated- and I'm inclined to agree- that she gravitates towards Wes in season five because her memories of posessed!Wes attacking her have been wiped, so she doesn't instinctively cringe away from him the way she did before. Which would have been okay IF THEY HAD ACKNOWLEDGED THIS and not played it as "oh they're so sweet" rather than "oh this relationship was facilitated by a massive Nice Guy complex and mindrape."
