Much as I love Buffy and Dean, I'm going to have to go with River for the zombie Apocalypse. Someone who could shoot three kill shots in under two seconds is the sort you want to have around.
Definitely true. I do wonder if she'd crack under the pressure if it was over a sustained period of time? And Buffy's got the super-quick healing power, which River doesn't have. It's a toss-up for me.
And how dare you make me choose between LMM and Robin McKinley? My girlhood is made up of reading these two ladies, and Sunshine remains my favorite vampire book EVAR.
For the last one, I went with Buffy... although I nearly chose River. In the end, I decided I'd rather have someone around who could kick butt, heal quickly and still have a coherent conversation with me!
THUMBS UP TO THIS POLL. Thank you for including L.M. Montgomery, because I am adoringly reading Anne of Avonlea basically at this moment -- I just stole away for a quick lj break -- and HOW WAS THIS WOMAN EVEN REAL, and thank goodness she gave us so many wonderful books.
Also: is it weird that I mostly picked Buffy because, in the event of an apocalypse, I'd want someone witty around? I just feel like her quips would be even more comforting than her slayer strength.
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW. She was my childhood, in all the important ways, and I'm so glad that I've reached the point where I can say, "No, I'm never going to outgrow these books." They really are that good.
I always feel so guilty for secretly loving Seven Brides for Seven Brothers because it is soooooo every single thing that is patriarchal and wrong with the world. But then there's iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'm a looooonesome pooooooole cat! and what can you do?
Also, word to fried eggplant. And peach pie. And LMM. And H&1/2. Did I mention that this poll rocks?
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'm a looooonesome pooooooole cat! That one might be my favorite. My sister nearly dies of lust every time she watches that episode.
Lauren, how could you make me choose between Florence Welch and Marina Diamandis? You terrible, terrible person. I ended up picking Marina because I'd just been watching "Oh No" on YouTube before I checked my flist, but it was a close race there. Also, I haven't listened to any Bats for Lashes songs aside from "Two Suns" and "Sleep Alone," but Sleep Alone is on my current writing playlist, so Natasha Khan cane third. Arrgh Britain, why do you put out so much quality stuff?
("America" all the way. My dad was actually a Shark in his high school production of WSS, making him quite possibly the only Puerto Rican in history with flaming red hair. Also I'm not a huge fan of/haven't seen the other musicals on the list, so.)
MAKING ME CHOOSE BETWEEN FLORENCE AND MARINA. NO FAIR.
I adore Hyperbole and a Half, but I also lovelovelove Cyanide & Happiness, xkcd, and Penny Arcade.
What is... chess pie? Does it have chess pieces in it? I am honestly perplexed.
I chose Bonnie because I think magical powers might end up trumping human weaponry. But the correct answer to that question is technically Ash from the Evil Dead movies.
West Side Story! It's my dad's favourite musical. The songs are all good, and the social commentary makes his inner sociology nerd happy. I think it's my favourite musical too, actually. Possible exception for Moulin Rouge.
I couldn't pick a ship, since I don't watch Doctor Who, P&R, or Skins, and have mixed feelings on Bonnie/Jeremy.
Hark! A Vagrant is the best. I also follow Penny and Aggie, which is uneven as hell. Oh, and The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal, which isn't quite a webcomic as it's written with the intention of being published in print form.
Oh, and Bonnie. She's my favourite of the four, and a witch.
Read TJ and Amal, and also Subnormality - http://www.viruscomix.com/subnormality.html - because it is feminist, and glorious, and introspective and sometimes very fun. Also, sphynxes and dystopias.
In conclusion, I miss you often vividly, and also Butler rocks my very socks.
I had a terrible time choosing between River/Doctor and Ben/Leslie, but I went with Ben/Leslie in the end because it's Thursday and my excitement is reaching epic levels. :)
Ooh, if you like fried vegetables, have you ever had fried yellow squash? So good. Or cauliflower? That one's tasty too.
Aren't they so delightful? AND HOW DELIGHTFUL WAS LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE OMG.
I have had fried squash! And love it, but didn’t think of it because that’s not typically how my family eats squash (either in squash casserole, which I looooove, or with butter and onions and salt and pepper).
I actually don’t like cauliflower? But I would try it when it’s fried.
Silly girl. There is only one correct answer to the "how excited for Doctor Who" question, and that is "eleventy". *flails*
I would have to pick my favorite dance number out of the Busby Berkley catalog (or maybe something with Cyd Charisse), but both the WSS numbers are glorious.
Fried okra is the food of the gods! Fried green tomatoes are pretty darn good too.:)
My favorite musical is actually probably The Music Man or maybe Guys and Dolls, but West Side Story is near the top of my list too.
I of course would want Buffy at my side during the zombie apocalypse, but I would accept Bonnie or River as well, just as long as Dean is kept far away from me, because let's face it, people around Dean die a lot more than people around Buffy, Bonnie, or River do, and if you have ladyparts, then your odds of dying rise even more.
Silly. Everyone knows the best dance scene in a musical is the "A Little Priest" sequence in Sweeney Todd. I clicked The Sound of Music simply because I think Christopher Plummer is wicked hot in that movie. (That's not weird, right?)
I had to choose William Faulkner over L.M. Montgomery. It hurt, but I had no choice. I do think he was the better writer, but I love the Emily of New Moon series hardcore.
Now I want to post a completely random poll on my lj. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone would bother taking it. :P
simply because I think Christopher Plummer is wicked hot in that movie. (That's not weird, right?) Definitely not. Everyone thinks he’s hot in that movie.
I think I might love the Emily books better than the Anne ones. But The Blue Castle is probably my all-time favorite. It’s hard to choose with LMM.
Well.. my favorite webcomic is Order of the Stick (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0001.html)
Had to choose Buffy cause well, conversation and slayage. River's not much of a conversationalist, Bonnie - her magic is finite, and Dean... he's too hot. I'd never survive cause I'd get too distracted admiring his ass.
I don’t know that one! This post has turned into a webcomics rec post, and I am heartily pleased.

I am eating leftover pizza at 11.30am because I woke up at 6.00, so that makes it lunchtime, right? I am supposed to be doing housework, but this poll is much more important, IMO. You have forced me to make some very difficult choices. Les Mis or SoM? Oh, the agony of decision making. Have to go with Julie Andrews because SoM is my happy movie - what I watch when I need cheering up.
Musical scene - 'Moses Supposes' from SITR is fabulous. But it still has to be the actual singing in the rain - not original, I know. I love the whole scene but the bit when he twirls around with the umbrella in the road - my FAVOURITE 10 seconds in all of movie history. Not sure why, but it lifts my heart every time.
LM Montgomery. I was SOOOO obsessed with her when I was a child, that and Narnia. But in the UK we did not have all of her books, at least not in my local library. Recently I have been reading a lot of them on my iPod because you can download them for free from Project Gutenberg (an amazing place to get books, btw). I still love her as much as I did when I was young.
Zombie apocalypse. Do you mean slow or fast ones? Fast ones are the thing that give me nightmares more than anything, except maybe clowns. I chose Buffy as I do not think I could ever vote against her in any poll, no matter what. Unless you were evil enough to pit her against Spike, but who could be that cruel? Thanks for the poll - I can always rely on you to help me pass the time in a much more fun way that I had originally planned!
Usually I think Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is pretty okay, but the prank that artist Zach Weiner pulled on the National Organization for Marriage forever cemented his/its place in my heart:

I seriously almost peed in my pants the first time I read that.

HOW IS PUMPKIN PIE NOT ON THE LIST?
Maria/Captain Von Trapp forever! &hears
Actually my favorite British lady singer right now is Adele. Because I am easily swayed. Set Fire to the Rain

I'm not such a pumpkin fan! I mean, I like it. I eat it. But it's not one of my favorite kinds, you know? I'M SOOOOORRY!
Awww!
Adele is awesome. But very different from the other ladies on my poll. I love her though!

Robin McKinley is so close...
The icon is from the 'Queen' but I like it for many of the Buffy stories I've read.

I'm so incredibly glad that you like them!

This is chess pie. The best way I can think of to describe it is that it's pecan pie without the pecans? We eat lots of it in our family.
Bonnie's a badass, no doubt about it!

It’s one of the best happy movies. :D
SitR has flawless dancing. So much joy! You really can’t go wrong with any of them.
But in the UK we did not have all of her books, at least not in my local library.
Sad! I’m glad you’ve got access to them now. The internet is a beautiful thing.
Always voting Buffy is always a good choice. I approve.
