lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([misc] twilight for the fail)

Just when I thought I was getting past my Twilight-mocking days....

Somebody else rant about this one for me.  I just...can't do it right now.

*headdesk*

[ETA]:  No, you know what?  I'm going to make everything okay again.

Or if that didn't work, this one should...

Or this one...

Hint: You might wanna fast-forward through the man confessing to get to the good stuff on that last one....

A-a...are they kidding?

Oh, man. THEY'RE NOT KIDDING.

Seriously, I've never even read Wuthering Heights, but...I just...THIS IS IN VERY POOR TASTE, UNIVERSE. I AM NOT PLEASED.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
No. No, my love, they are not kidding. They are deadly serious. They are going to make money off of this.

Actually, Wuthering Heights is made of win. Because it's basically a psychological horror story about how obsessive romantic love pretty much ruins the lives of everyone even remotely involved. It's totally fabulous.

The universe shall pay.

I APPROVE OF HOW MUCH BLAIR'S FACE DISAPPROVES OF THIS. BUFFY JOINS HER IN DISAPPROVAL. And if Buffy and Blair both agree on something....

YES. YES IT IS. NOT TO MENTION IT IS THE MOST FECKING COMPLEX NARRATIVE EVER. MIRRORING! SO MUCH MIRRORING! I have never understood people that say "OMG, Heathcliff is so romantic." People like Stephenie Meyer and so many of my peers apparently. Ladies? He strings up a puppy on a garden gate. Romantic that is not.

NOT TO MENTION IT IS THE MOST FECKING COMPLEX NARRATIVE EVER. MIRRORING! SO MUCH MIRRORING! Emily Bronte deserves a spot in the canon for that alone, seriously. The LAYERS in that story. GAH!

Ladies? He strings up a puppy on a garden gate. Romantic that is not. Nothing more need be said.

What the fuck is wrong with the world? Do not DARE spread that trash on a Classic! UGH.

*disgusted*

Why am I always posting so angrily on your journal, honey? Well, that or I'm crying at your fic. You're inspiring strong emotions, hee!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
It really is sympotmatic of so many things that are just wrong, isn't it? *fumes*

Why am I always posting so angrily on your journal, honey? Probably because most of the time when I post, it's either out of outrage or fangirly squeeing? Seriously, lj is one of my happy places just because I know that when I get worked up, other people will get worked up with me.

Well, that or I'm crying at your fic. You're inspiring strong emotions, hee! You're too sweet!

Okay that's just...WRONG!! In every way possible!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it, though?

And your icon is perfect. The people who thought this up should definitely be banished to the special hell.

[identity profile] serendipily.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
That-that

That fucking sucks.

That is the stupidest thing in the world. It's fail. Fail! Fail! Fail! They've ruined th eonly Bronte book I could tolerate to read and they've turned it into this crap! Now all the girls will gush over the hate/love of Cathering and Heathcliffe without the SLIGHTEST knowledge of the riginal knowledge. Only grasping the IDIOTIC stance that they can be like Bella and Edward in all their crappy, god-awful moronic lifeless relationship. The name is forever ruined. From now on it's going to be the 'Bell and Edward book".

THIS SUCKS! THIS SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS!!!!

GR!

I don't think I can look at this bok the same way withot feeling like it was horridly violated against it's own will. This-this THIS IS BOOK RAPE!

STUPID!

[identity profile] serendipily.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm ... you know. I just realized how uncute that was.

//end rant.

THERE WE GO!

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL!

Oh dear. You see, we saw this monstrosity in a bookshop about three months ago. Along with a wall of Twilight books. I was genuinely on the verge of tears. Julia and I had to be lead away and bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in protest.

Also the Ukelele Orchestra of GB are bamf. I love them. Also my mother's ringtone for when I call is, in fact, 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush.

Hey, you were the one who introduced me to them! I'd never heard of them before you went and then posted the youtube videos in your journal. Now it's one of my missions in life to see them myself.

Also my mother's ringtone for when I call is, in fact, 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush. That's fabulous. Did she choose it or did you?

[identity profile] radio-silent.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
...if it gets people to buy the book...

no, it's still horrible. but at least it might get some of the preteens to read the classics.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
but at least it might get some of the preteens to read the classics. I would heartily agree, except that I think that those who do pick it up because of Twilight will entirely misinterpret it and think it's romantic, and it'll be bad for them. They're already getting the "obsessive possession is romantic" crap from Twilight; I don't want them getting it from Wuthering Heights, too.

[identity profile] radio-silent.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
huh, yeah, wuthering heights does seem oddly similar...hm. (but with a stronger protagonist? bella...i just have so many issues with bella...)

...also, you may have already seen this, but if you ever need to explain why buffy wins over twilight to someone:
part one and part two.
it is just SO dead on. : )

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I HAD NOT SEEN THAT BUT IT IS EPIC!

Thank you so much for sharing! Too awesome!

Though a small part of me is bitter about the "Angel will always be her soulmate" thing. But the awesomeness negates that.

[identity profile] radio-silent.livejournal.com 2009-08-24 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
hehe, i'm glad you like it! i just love how it puts the differences so simply, and so dead-on, and with LOLZ (or lulz?) for the twilight characters vs. the very mature buffy themes.

and i totally know what you mean about the angel thing... but i think, yeah, it works nicely for the greater meaning. : P

[identity profile] callmepatsy.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my GOD! Someone told me about that this weekend and I didn't believe them!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Alas, the proof is there.

[identity profile] inkstainedskin.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
NO THEY DID NOT! *dies* What is the world coming to? When in order to sell a timeless novel they are using Twilight? I have no words...

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I was pretty speechless for a while after I saw it....

[identity profile] rosie1234.livejournal.com 2009-08-11 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Wuthering Heights is awesome (and so is my number one book Jane Eyre) but that is just stupid! I became a fan of Twilight when it was just a book with a pretty cover I randomly got but now it feels like it's getting shoved down my freaking throat!
