Okay, y'all, you know I never cuss...
Really. I almost never cuss. And I really hate this word. But it has to be said, and it has to be said like this:
What. The. FUCK?
My mama would be so ashamed of me talking like that. Seriously, she'd probably wash my mouth out with soap (yes, that actually happened to me as a child. Once). But I'm sorry, Mama. No other words will suffice.

BUT! I still agree with you. And I think they are being really stupid. The only people who would be interested in a Buffy relaunch are Buffy fans, and they're going to alienate, if not piss off (like me, and obviously, you), those fans by not only not having any of the original cast in it, but by not even having Joss Whedon involved. Stupid. And infuriating.
no subject
Exactly. That's exactly what it's so stupid. I think this whole thing is a ploy to make money off of Twilight's successes. Which makes me even angrier.

No SMG (pretty sure).
No Willow or Xander.
No Angel or Spike.
What's the fucking point?
no subject
No, there's no way SMG would do it.
I actually kind of love the idea of making a movie about a past Slayer (Nikki comes to mind) or a future one (that Fray chick?). It could be done brilliantly. But I would have to have Joss signing off on that, and that clearly isn't going to happen here. It looks like they want the "character" of Buffy, but, I'm sorry, SMG is Buffy, and Buffy isn't Buffy without GilesWillowXanderAngelSpikeDawn etc. She just isn't.

Also, the Doctor-in-your-icon looks like he agrees with us.

I personally can't stand the original film, and I recently wrote a bit about why in my dissertation. Joss never intended his script to be used that way - he wanted something dark and powerful with a strong femal hero who could believably save the world - the original Buffy film in no way did this, instead making it into a farce. The fact that the Kuzui's have been arrogant enough to hold on to credit all these years is one thing - no one particularly minded because we could ignore it completely, everyone knowing that it was all Joss (and Marti, etc) - but this is taking it too far, and I'm pretty sure no fan will actually stand up for it.
Also, it's especially ridiculous considering the fact that the Buffy franchise still actually exists within graphic novels.
Sometimes people piss me off way too much.

no one particularly minded because we could ignore it completely Exactly. Up till this point, they were irrelevant, but if they actually go through with this, they will have all of fandom after this.
You're so right about the comics--with, say, Bond or Batman or Stark Trek, those franchises have been around for decades. Buffy is still new. Why on earth would you want to "reboot" it?
:O
Re: :O

Seriously, though, I saw this on Whedonesque earlier, and as many, many people pointed out: the folks proposing it are trying to compare this idea with the Star Trek reboot, which doesn't work because the thing about Stark Trek? The original has been over for decades. BtVS has been over for six years. Seriously, I wouldn't hate the idea of a reboot if it was, say, twenty years from now. Reboots can be awesome if enough time has passed. Right now, however, is just no. On many levels and with great intensity.

You're so right on all counts. And personally, I think it would be awesome to do a movie about a Slayer other than Buffy--Nikki, Fray, one of the Potentials who has now been empowered (can I vote Felicia Day as Vi?)--but to do one with that name but without Joss's involvement and all the characters who helped shape Buffy as an individual...just no. It's much, much too soon.
Speaking of TV shows, I thought of you the other day when I read the letter from the T:SCC showrunner. It was incredibly classy, I thought, even if I was so sad for you and for Summer about the show not coming back.
no subject
Oh, man, Josh Friedman's letter was great. I found it really upsetting that there's a lot of fans who are saying he's being a 'defeatist' and throwing in the towel, that he doesn't care about the show, is giving up, etc. His message was indeed very, very classy and it's a damn shame the show is gone, but him taking it with a graceful goodbye is not abandoning the show without trying to fight back.

And hopefully he'll be able to move on and make some more great television.

And yeah, when I saw this entry and that it was you I thought to myself something must be very very wrong because Lauren doesn't swear lol.

And that's all that need be said.

lolque.
Um, how is this a reboot? Buffy ended in 2002. And by the people who completely warped the original concept? How do this people still have the rights anyway?
WHAT IS THIS BLASPHEMOUS FUCKERY.
(Strange side note: my parents never did the soap-washing thing, and but I had heard it referenced enough to be curious about it and proceeded to eat like, half a bar of soap. And probably would have continued if my mother hadn't walked in.
...yeah. >.>)

WHAT IS THIS BLASPHEMOUS FUCKERY. My reaction exactly.
Also, this is made a thousand times better by Crazy!Adelle in your icon. *wubs*
Yeah, now that I think about it, I think it was my grandmother who did the soap thing. It sounds more like her than my parents. And I think it was for lying, not cussing--I've never been a big cusser, really.
