That's a very good thing to hope. Although I don't think that Allie's done a very good job with that structuring so far, so I'm still skeptical.
But I will be very, very pleased if he does all the characterization. Because Allie seems to fundamentally misunderstand, like, everything that's important to me in the Buffyverse. *sigh*
I do think Joss needs to learn not to let himself get stretched so thin like this. He did it when he was running BtVS, AtS, and FF all at once and now this. He can't do everything all the time. I wish he'd realize that.
Oh, yeah, definitely. It would have been stupid for him not to do it. But. I think he should have picked someone else to help him out with this. In the past, he's generally been really good about choosing which creative people to surround himself with; not so much with the comics, from what I can see. He should have picked Goddard or Jane or someone.
GO WRITE! YAY!
In happier news, I'm nearly done with TVD and am watching episode 17 right now, and I'm going to my childhood BFF's wedding this afternoon. So it's a good day for me.
I do kind of love that Jane is too busy. Seriously, when are they going to let that woman create a show of her own? I like her work on other people's stuff--some more than others, of course--but I think she could do something really great if she had full creative control.
I'd rather have it be delayed and have Joss knock it out himself, frankly.
That was my first thought--why don't they just put it on hold so that Joss can do it himself later? But that would just lose readers, and they can't afford that.
It's one of the most fantastically paced shows I've ever seen, it really is. I'm enjoying it muchly and have loads of thoughts.

Really? You think? I kind of assume that anyone who's going to read the final arc is pretty committed to it at this point. If the horrid Twilight arc and the four month wait hasn't killed their determination, would another little delay really do it?
Yeah, that's how I feel, too, but I get the feeling Joss wants to get his out of the way before the Avengers crazy starts to really dominate his every waking hour.
I think directing The Avengers was too huge of a career move for him to not go for it, so I understand.
I've basically told everyone in my family to support The Avengers because if it's wildly successful, Joss can finally get the financing to do a Buffy movie, and then the comics will just be a bad memory, right? Right?
My issue with this is that it's not like the Comics haven't been around for three years. That's plenty of time to have written an ending. First, it's clear that this "Season" has long since been stretched beyond what it could reasonably support. And second the break since the writing (as opposed to the illustration or the release) of the last issue has been how long, exactly?
I'm working on Saturday, right now to meet a deadline. I don't think that it's an unrealistic expectation for Joss to have put more effort into this project than he has. It's not asking for superhuman effort, just due dilligence.

Exaaaaaactly. And, y'know, if they'd been a little more efficient in tightening up the story arc so that it DIDN'T TAKE THREE YEARS, Joss would have had to spend a lot less time on it and we'd be done S8 by now.
On the bright side, I guess this means Jeanty is full of crap regarding the argument that some people make that he knows how it all ends so his opinions are more than just his opinions.
Still, I can't take this news as anything but confirming that this thing has crash and burn painted all over it.
Is it bad that my immediate reaction is... laughter? (Also your gif is brilliant!) It's just - every time we've thought that he couldn't make it worse? He DOES! And he's done it again!
Honestly? I think Joss likes making people hate him. He feeds off the rage like some kind of negative karma vampire. The more he pisses us off, the more powerful he becomes. The only way to fight back is to remember that at least we got seven good seasons out of him, and no one can take that away from us. Also, just keep telling yourself it could be worse. He could be crazy and talentless, like Stephenie Meyer.
Moral of the story: just because someone is creatively brilliant doesn't mean they can't also be a complete douche.
First because I intensely dislike Allie's view of Buffy and always took solace in the fact that he was NOT part of the creative team. And Second because this is coming out of the left field, this sound like Joss handed in a script, Allie said but we need an answer for this this and that, please rewrite, and Joss said: "Avengers here, you rewrite, we share authorship."
That's pure speculation of course but why else would they not say that they are co authoring in the first place?
And here I was thinking we'd already reached the all time low. That there couldn't possibly be any more disappointments in store for us this late in the game. That Joss might be able to salvage some of the S8. And then this happened... :(
Whatever the reason behind this "strategic" move by Joss is (lack of time, need for a scapegoat, inability to write himself out of this mess on his own, whathaveyou), Allie gets handed an opportunity to say the last word on a silver platter. In the actual story! And based on all his interviews, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like what he's going to say.
Oh well, at least it'll be interesting to try to figure out who wrote what, and which things are influenced by Allie, and which are not...

Oh well. At least I hadn't invested much hope in Joss being able to save S8 with the final arc. Now I won't be disappointed. :)

Anyway, I think this is what you need:

(I adore that gif. Immediately when I read the news I knew it was the perfect one to use!.)
It's just - every time we've thought that he couldn't make it worse? He DOES! And he's done it again!
I know, right?
DONNA HUGS!

Yay! Then I can use this gif too:
(EVERYTHING is better with added Donna!)

Oh, Donna. I love her so much.

But i want to see You going on a murderous rampage!

So when I found this out, first I was like . . .
Then I was like
But I decided that reaction was a little extreme.
So, then I decided to be like
But I realized I enjoy watching the wank a little too much
But then I remembered some of the more not-so-feminist stuff Scott Allie has said, and I felt like doing this to him
Because really? Issue #34 made me feel like this
Totally molested and wanting to be violent about it. Because seriously?
NO.
Buffy is not so unevolved that she'd boink her bad guy high school boyfriend without an explanation.
Buffy is a superhero, even when she loses her memory.
And I will totally do this
to anybody who says differently.
*Huggles Buffy*
