Choco_cherries: Death Becomes Her

Y’all, I’ve gone completely crazy.  Stark raving mad.  There is no other explanation for the crack that is this pairing.  Forgive me in advance.  (oh, and the “drinking forever” idea comes from [info]ava_leigh_fitz.  Cuz she’s awesome like that.  Thanks for the support, mind-twin.).

Title: Death Becomes Her
Author: Lirazel ([info]penny_lane_42)

Fandoms: Heroes/Buffyverse
Characters/Pairing:  Adam Monroe/Drusilla
Timeline/Setting:  1900, China, the Boxer Rebellion (before Spike kills his first Slayer)
Wordcount: 300
Prompt: bridge
Summary:  She could drink from him forever and he would never run dry.

He’s seen so much in the last three centuries—this isn’t his first rebellion, much less his first war—that when he realizes what she is, he believes it.  The crumpled body at her feet, the blood smeared on her mouth, her deformed face…being himself, he can’t deny his own eyes.

--

She probably wasn’t beautiful in life—sweet and innocent he can imagine, but not beautiful—but death lends her an allure that even he can’t deny.  He isn’t captivated, though, not like the lovesick vampire who follows her around hoping for a crumb.  He has forgotten how to be.

She infuses every word with poetry: if he only listens to the sound of her voice, the words are beautiful.  But the meaning is illusive, impossible to grasp, though she speaks with such conviction that he knows she’s following an internal logic.  He could spend the rest of his eternity—and hers—trying to map the paths and cross the bridges her mind follows, but he has things to do and no interest in commitment.  Love could never hope to compete with revenge.

--

She sinks her teeth into his neck, pain and pleasure intermingled.  She could drink from him forever and he would never run dry.  He has left guilt and conscience far behind, and he can appreciate the twisted beauty in the way she seduces and then preys.  His lost sword cannot compare with her teeth, and she is an avenging angel in her white lace splashed with crimson blood.

--

She treats the whole world, and not the least him, like a toy, like one of her dolls, and he grows tired of her after a few days.  He hops the last boat for Bombay, and he doesn’t look back.

That doesn’t mean he’s ever going to forget her.

You are so good at my ego, do you know that? For serious.

this constant quizzical stance on life, amused yet not and vaguely impressed. That's exactly how I see him. *hugs Adam* You may be evil, Kensei, but that's not going to keep me from loving you.

Yeah, I really don't think that Drusilla is all that beautiful, but she's fascinating looking--I always freak out when she's in an episode because you never know what to expect with her but it's going to be fun. And your idea of Adam studying her with his head cocked: oh, yes. Exactly.

I almost took the Spike reference out so that I could have more words, but I didn't, because hello! Spike! I adore that boy.

we shouldn't be feeling so sorry for archvillains but yeah, you do because he's been around so long I know! It makes me think of Spike in season 7--"I've lived for soddin' ever; I've seen everything." You just have to feel sorry for someone like that.

I'm sooo glad you liked the part about her mind. I had to stick part of that in at the last minute because I'd totally ignored the prompt (which, incidentally, was my prompt, funnily enough) and needed to find a way to work it in. So glad you loved it.

I can't tell you how much better this fic is for you "drinking forever" idea. Thanks so much for it!

Again, so glad you liked it! I was afraid it was a little too crazy, so now I feel much better!
