lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([btvs] damn important)

Hey, y'all!

Get your Xander!hate on! [livejournal.com profile] eleusis_walks is doing his 30 Days of BtVS, and even though there are many, many topics I strongly disagree with him on, he is always thoughtful and awesome and interesting. And the things I do agree with him on? I agree violently.

Like our mutual hate for the ultimate Nice Guy Xander Harris. He basically lists every single hateful thing that Xander ever says/does and I am glorying in my hate. He also has a love-post devoted to Anya, which I haven't gotten to read yet, but I know is wonderful because anything involving Anya is wonderful. And [livejournal.com profile] eleusis_walks loves Dawn and Cordy and Jenny and basically a ton of awesome ladies, so I forgive him for not loving my boy and my girl enough. ;D

So join the hate fest! Or if you like Xander...well, I would like to hear why. Because it is beyond my understanding.

Heh.

I often think that these character discussions get tripped up around the reality/fiction divide. Like, I probably wouldn't like, say, Willow in real life. Well, not S6 Willow. Not only would she remind me of me, she'd remind me of all the most horrible parts of myself and what might happen if they ran unchecked. I'd avoid her and shun her.

As a fictional character on a TV show? I find her fascinating and I wish to join her fan club.

Same with Spike. Possibly Xander (though he reminds me quite a bit of guys I've been friends with). Most likely Buffy. These are all people I may not necessarily dig in real life, either in concept or in specific. But as a fictional character? I think they're all fab.

Fictional narrative storytelling allows us a distance with which to identify with and invest in personalities and characters that we might otherwise not associate with.

What I'm trying to say is: I'm working real hard to avoid studying my German vocab right now.

I know how to ask if you speak German, then I can sing a German techno song I learned in 8th grade.

Polizei = police. Booyah!

Vienna Girl, we do not understand your gibberish!

I can only sing 1, 2, polizei, 3, 4, grenadier in German, then say thank you and good night. :p

Hahaha! That's hilarious.

I was bouncing around the house earlier singing this song even though I don't know what a third of the words mean! I still love the song!

[eta] I am hoping that my mastery of the language will impress Daniel Bruhl and he'll fall in love with me and we'll go live in Europe together. Could happen!

Yup! The Best! That music video was on constantly when I was living in Vienna, so I feel a special love for it. That and the Scissor Sisters' "I Don't Feel Like Dancing."

Can you drink German beer? 'Cause that's all that really matters.

I can, indeed, drink German beer. Maybe I should offer to do that in lieu of taking any silly tests my prof wants to give me...

What kind of bizarre foreign language class are you taking??? When I studied French, we mastered the wine drinking and the cheese eating first. And when I studied Russian I learned how to order vodka in Russian, then drink said vodka. That's just common sense. You start with the basics.
