lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([btvs] damn important)

Hey, y'all!

Get your Xander!hate on! [livejournal.com profile] eleusis_walks is doing his 30 Days of BtVS, and even though there are many, many topics I strongly disagree with him on, he is always thoughtful and awesome and interesting. And the things I do agree with him on? I agree violently.

Like our mutual hate for the ultimate Nice Guy Xander Harris. He basically lists every single hateful thing that Xander ever says/does and I am glorying in my hate. He also has a love-post devoted to Anya, which I haven't gotten to read yet, but I know is wonderful because anything involving Anya is wonderful. And [livejournal.com profile] eleusis_walks loves Dawn and Cordy and Jenny and basically a ton of awesome ladies, so I forgive him for not loving my boy and my girl enough. ;D

So join the hate fest! Or if you like Xander...well, I would like to hear why. Because it is beyond my understanding.

Aw! I actually love Ron. But I will join you in reveling in your Xander hate.

Haha, I edited poor Won-Won out because I noticed above that you loved him :P. I actually don't have nearly as many problems with Ron as I do with Xander. Not even close. But there are definitely elements of Ron's characterization that irked me - mostly with regards to his friendship with Harry and Hermione and how often he is a fair-weather friend - but he has many, many more sympathetic moments in the series than Xander ever did. He's also more genuinely funny than Xander ever was (am I the only one who thinks that Xander is just not funny?).

It's okay--I know a lot of people hate him, but I feel like he's who Xander would be if he wanted to: he has a really bad temper, and it makes him take off (see: the camping in Book 7), but he comes back. I think he grows up quite a bit at the end, too. And he doesn't have the hatred/contempt for women that makes me so mad at Xander. And yes, he's funny! And Xander isn't!

Oh he most definitely matures a lot throughout the series. GoF!Ron can GTFO as far as I'm concerned, but by the end of book seven I actually like him quite a bit. AND, unlike Xander, Ron tries to redeem himself and/or apologize for his actions. The text acknowledges a lot of Ron's faults, whereas on Buffy we're constantly told that Xander is such a nice guy without them ever really acknowledging the blatant misogyny or condescending attitude.

Yup, exactly!

And I'm loving your icon!

Deathly Halloooooows. I know the films are never as good as the trailers but... TRAILER HIGH. Also despite my strong reservations about Ron's character throughout most of the series I... still ship Ron/Hermione. Because I'm a weirdo.

I AM SO EXCITED!

I also ship them! And wrote a ton of fic back in the day, so I find this adorable.

See, and I always felt like that liking Ron was an unpopular opinion. Weird.
