grrrr...
People, please tell me to stop reading random people's reactions to the new S8 comic. I've loved what some of y'all on my flist (and, by extension, some of the people on your flists) have had to say, but there are people justifying evil all over the internet, and I cannot handle it. It just makes me so furious, and I want to engage all of them, and that will lead to my life being sucked away, and I could be doing way more constructive things like writing angsty Spuffy babyfic for
seasonal_spuffy and beta-ing for my favorite people.
Tell. Me. To. Stop.
In other, happier news: BUFFY SUMMERS. DONNA NOBLE. TAMI TAYLOR. AERYN SUN. JOAN HOLLOWAY. VERONICA MARS. PARKER. AND OTHER AWESOME WOMEN. DOMINATING FANDOM STEEL CAGE MATCH.
PLUS: MY ICON. YES.
Also, I'm watching Wizards of Waverly Place (yes, I'm lame, but I have a massive girlcrush on Selena Gomez), and OMG SELENA GOMEZ AND DAVID HENRIE. IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL FOR ACTORS PLAYING SIBLINGS TO HAVE SO MUCH CHEMISTRY. STOP IT NOOOOOOW. YOU'RE MAKING ME UNCOMFORTABLE.

YES! There's so much stream-of-consciousness going! Comments where I don't even have any idea what people are saying!

It really is fascinating to watch once you get over the sick feeling in the stomach the actual issue created and watch for the sociological aspects on display.
This is very true. It's harder for me to get over that sick feeling, though, because my life has been pretty sucky lately, so I'm depending on fandom in ways I probably shouldn't to make me feel better. *sigh*

For the most part, I try to ignore the comics completely. I don't read them (or any comics, for that matter), so the most I usually do is shake my head at posts on my F'list about the latest madness. I do get quite annoyed, however, when I write a fic and label it Post Chosen or Post NFA and someone pipes up with "I didn't know that happened in the comics" or "but such and such happened in the comics so this can't happen". Grrr!
*sigh* Can't type!

I can see this being Joss doing that...but I think it's really tacky. And I hope it's not true.
Do people really try to correct you about the comics? That's ridiculous. Keep on writing whatever you want to write! That's what I do!

Oh, believe me, I intend to keep writing what I want to write. I consider myself a BtVS writer first and foremost, and I will happily ignore AtS canon if I so choose--so the comics don't stand a chance. LOL

I have my OTFSCMW (One True Fandom Steel Cage Match Winner, obviously), and that is a dude, but! It is nice to see more ladies getting recognition.
no subject
Although your icon is wonderfully ironic, all things considered.
My dream-winner is Buffy or Donna or Aeryn. But! What I really, really want is for a woman to make it to the final four.
Just out of curiosity, who's your OTFSCMW? I will forgive you for the male-ness if he's awesome! (As I assume he is.)
Also: currently watching Community, and I MISSED THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHY JOEL MCHALE IS PANTSLESS.

*is suddenly passionate about this*

You should vote! Although I hate that she's up against Donna the very first round, since I love them both sososo much and I'm passionately against the idea of one of them being out after the very first round. *sigh*

am I a bad person if I find all the comics stuff terribly amusing?

I just don't feel any investment or connection to the comics (cause my canon ends with Chosen, for the most part) so I seem to be one of the few people who really and truly doesn't care what's happening there. I just always find the reaction funny.

OTOH, my son is a big Waverly fan, and I agree with you -- that is all KINDS of wrong!

There is an entire page on the TV Tropes Wiki dedicated to all the WHOA TOO MUCH moments between Alex and Justin on the show. It cracks me up to no end.
I've taken to shipping RPF Selena/David with

Go and watch the actual show, instead. Much better.

And that's good advice. I actually just watched the new episode of Community (which was, as always, GLORIOUS), so I feel a lot better. Plus, Project Runway later tonight, which gives me a chance to watch people stress out over sewing and then lets me yell at the judges when they like the wrong things! It's always exciting!
TV: my anti-drug.

(Ahem, sorry. I just get very excited when I meet another fan of Farscape.)
But to continue, I have a huge girl crush on her. I blame the leather and the female power. And John. Yum in his leather pants as well :)

But ever since the (awesome) discussion of women in fandom and the privileging of men's stories this year, we're rallying around the women. Buffy beat Spike! Donna beat the Doctor! Tami beat Tim Riggins! It's all very exciting and affirmative.

I totally voted for Zoe over there. I've become more and more fond of her the more I think about her. I think I need to write some background fic for her. Zoe grows up. Zoe goes to war. Etc. 'Cause she's awesome.

I did write a little piece with Zoe a while ago. It was just a short thing that focused on how Zoe and Wash got together. I've always been fascinated by her reaction to him when she first meets him that we saw in the show, and I went off that. I definitely enjoyed writing her, but I think she would be a bit more of a challenge to write if I didn't have Wash or Mal to play her off of. So I think writing her pre-Firefly would be challenging.

Dear Lord, I don't think I realised how strongly opposed I was to Buffy and Angel getting together again until I read that forum thread. *vomits everywhere*

Dear Lord, I don't think I realised how strongly opposed I was to Buffy and Angel getting together again until I read that forum thread. I know exactly what you mean. This whole things is reminding me of just how much I hate their relationship. Like...I'm trying to look at this from an unbiased, non-shipper position...and I'm failing. *sigh*

Though, in truth, I can't actually get very ragey because... laughing. too. hard. I just can't take it seriously, at all. That one poster on the thread waxing poetic about the Transcendent Bangel Love is making my goddam day.
You know what, this latest wank has done something in clarifying my feelings about B/A. I've always been ambivalent, liking/disliking it in equal measure. But now... yeah, no. It's officially ruined for me now. Serious issues aside, I don't know how I'm ever going to re-watch their scenes again and keep a straight face. *shakes head*
The best thing about this whole business is that it makes me proud, not to mention GRATEFUL, to be a B/S shipper. Lord knows we were never *subjected* to such 'transcendent love' ;D (Though, I'm sure we'll get crapped on soon enough.)
Off to read linked posts!

But now... yeah, no. It's officially ruined for me now.
Serious issues aside, I don't know how I'm ever going to re-watch their scenes again and keep a straight face. *shakes head* Oh, I know!
And YES about being gratefully B/S! I know exactly what you mean!
Do let me know what you think as you read. For some reason, I can't let this go, and your insights are ones I really value (even if they're just along the "hey, this is hilarious" or "Now I'm ragey!" lines!).

And yes, I read 2maggie2's posts about the subversiveness and agree. Actually, her comments about appreciating the complex, interesting Bangel over the schmoopy Bangel is where I stand. So... Maybe they're not totally ruined for me after all. Glad tidings.
And I am finding that thread a very interesting read, even though I have no idea what people are banging on about half the time. It's good to see there appear to be only a couple of lunatics, I guess. I do feel highly sympathetic to the majority of B/A folk - this development is *not of the good*.
