Three Sentence Fic-a-Thon

Let's do this thing!

THE THREESentenceFIC-A-THON

In this challenge, you write a fic consisting of only three sentences in response to a prompt. All fandoms/characters/ships are welcome, and you can leave as many prompts and write as many fic as you like. Please leave only one prompt per comment, though there can be multiple fic "answers" to each prompt.

Format:

Fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence

Please go here for more in-depth instructions, examples, and to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have.

Pimp far and wide, please! The more participants, the more fic! And if someone wants to whip up a banner or something, that would be great!

Go forth and fic!

She stares at the faucet, mesmerized by the water flowing out, a simple everyday sight she's looked at without seeing a thousand thousand times, a sight that now seems to have taken on a sort of metaphysical importance in this moment, now, when she can also hear the liquid gurgle down below where the water rises, heedless of her mom's memories tucked away in boxes where they should be safe, except Buffy's carelessness has endangered them, too, just like everything else she once counted as precious (she's tried so hard to keep the floods at bay, little girl with her finger plugging a hole while the pressure builds and builds and builds and--most of all--waits. Water is patient; water has time, and she's only one small girl, after all...and she's grown so very tired). And she thinks that maybe this is life: water running steady and sure but unseen around the foundations that supported you till all of a sudden you see that, without your noticing, the stone has been (bit by bit, day by day) worn away by the silent insistence of the current until, when you least expect it, everything collapses under you and there's no place left to stand.

(To live in this world after having touched heaven is to drown, and she knows she's not strong enough to hold back the floods any longer.)

The ending is perfection. *sniff*

And you know that's just the scene I was thinking of!

Whenever I write angsty!Buffy, it makes me want to wrap her up in blankets and give her hot chocolate and Spike to make her feel better.

Clearly, we have a hive-mind. MAYBE WE'RE THE BORG.

This is powerful and heart hurting and captures Buffy's despair in this moment. There's a feeling of surrender to this.

Oh, thank you! Surrender was exactly what I was going for!
