Get excited, people!

So. Probably tonight, possibly tomorrow, I’m going to start the Three Sentence Fic-a-Thon here. For those of you who haven’t ever participated in one, you should take a look over here to see how it works.

It’s fairly straightforward: someone posts a prompt [Fandom – Pairing/Character – Prompt format] of any kind, and if you’re interested, you write a tiny story in three sentences in reply. You can post as many prompts as you wish and answer as many as strike your fancy. But remember: only three sentences! Run-ons are acceptable, but try to keep in mind that you are not William Faulkner and clarity is key! Also, creative use of punctuation is encouraged (I’m more than mildly obsessed with punctuation, so this is like a dream come true for me).

For those of you who don’t write much (or at all), this is a great way to stick your toes in the water—no commitment, really; the limits aren’t as strict as that of drabbles; and it’s fun! Really, it’s ideal for people without a lot of writing experience, and I really encourage you to put your trepidation aside and give it a try. You’ll like it!

Any fandom/any pairing/any character. Be creative! If you haven’t figured it out by now, I am not a one-fandom girl. So if you’re mostly here for the Buffy (as many of you are), but you’ve always had an abiding love of Lord of the Rings: post a prompt! Odds are someone else loves that fandom, too! (And yes, [livejournal.com profile] redsilverchains, I will write you Tony/Michelle.)

I’m hopefully going to post one of those little scrolly boxes that let you paste html code so that you can copy/paste it into your journals (if I can figure out how to do that. Guidance, anyone?). Please, please pimp it out. These things only work if there’s quite a bit of participation. I know a few of you run communities—if you want, you can pimp it there, too. Whatever works!

It will go on until interest fizzles out; the last one lasted for nearly two months. So if you can’t participate this weekend, show up next week sometime! If things go as I hope, it’ll still be going on.

This is the first time I’ve hosted something like this, so I’m both nervous and excited. We’ll see how it goes!

If you think you might be interested in joining in, drop me a line in the comments, just so I can get a feel for it. This isn't a commitment, just an indication of interest.

Yay!

Uh. So. I have approximately 8 million papers and projects to do this weekend/next week, but I. Think I'm in?

(WHAT AM I DOING I NEVER PARTICIPATE IN FICATHONS OF ANY VARIETY.)

You can't see me now but I AM BOUNCING UP AND DOWN IN MY SEAT!!!! This sort of thing is made for you and your awesome brain! I am so, so excited!

Besides, you can literally write one in fifteen minutes. It'll give you little breaks from your 8 million papers!

Also! I'm going to try to get more thoughts to you about said paper tomorrow. Be on the lookout!

... but try to keep in mind that you are not William Faulkner ...

Wait, what? You just destroyed my entire world view.

...all kidding aside, I would probably end up participating in this.

That...may have been a reminder to myself. Because I want to be William Faulkner, and sometimes I just need to remind myself that I am not him. *wistful sigh*

Oh, good! I think you'd be great at it, and it's both non-time-sucking and very fun!

I hereby express interest.

Yay! I've posted it here!

I'm probably gonna be crushed if it doesn't take off. It'll be like a party no one shows up for, while you're sitting there by yourself with awesome food and streamers.

You know what? Your reply makes me hungry. *wanders off for baked potatoes*

Incidentally, I have already committed commentfic this weekend, in Gabs' fabulous fannish thread of awesome.

Glad to oblige! I hope you enjoy your baked potato!

I am so looking forward to reading all the silliness therein. I saw [livejournal.com profile] stormwreath's macros of awesome and nearly died from laughing. Can't wait to check it out!

So, would I be utterly, laughably predictable if I prompted for Spike mpreg? Because I keep asking for it, and no one ever writes me any!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Do. It.

Seriously, I would write that for you. Absolutely.

No promises, but it sounds fun and interesting.

Excellent! You can check it out here.

Does it only have to be an answer to a prompt?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what you mean.

Are you asking if you can write a story that isn't in answer to a particular prompt? In that case, I'd say, probably not. But if you want me to prompt you something in particular...we can bend the rules a bit, and I'll do that for you. ;)

[identity profile] riccadonna.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I had only skimmed the rules--it was very simply explained in there!
And thank you, but it was just a moment of stupidity and I've got cold feet already.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's fine! I just wasn't sure I was understanding what you're asking!

And I'm a naturally paranoid person, so I always end up acting tons more questions than I need to about everything in an attempt to not fail or make a fool of myself. So I totally understand the need to ask them.

But if you want to, you should totally dive in! There've been tons of different approaches, and they've all been way fun.
