Oooh, glad she's tackling that one. Lots of nostalgia there.
I feel as if so many have already been through that similar JKR-wringer with Joss Whedon.
Just one example: I really like "Storyteller" as an episode because I like Andrew ‘s character and how he explores re-idealizing the real world when telling stories. And… I’ve also had to reckon with how it involves a dude bro sliding into women’s spaces and making unwelcome commentary about it, which is incredibly uncomfortable when you factor in Whedon’s history in the industry.
Soooo much nostalgia. Apparently she did it because her new book that's coming out is set in the early 2000s, which makes me look forward to it even more.
Yes, Whedon definitely gave me experience is disengaging from a creator, though of course the JKR thing is on a much, much bigger scale. Thankfully even though I've loved HP for years, I didn't build any part of my identity around it like I did with Joss's stuff, so I'm mostly just disgusted and disappointed instead of heartbroken, but I feel so terrible for all the people who are heartbroken.
And yes, agreed about Andrew and "Storyteller." I remain fond of Andrew (I think more because of the actor than the writing) and that episode is really well-written, but in retrospect...pretty gross.
