What in the Slashy Heck?

I'm not reading the Season 8 comics, mostly because from what I've read spoiler-wise, Buffy doesn't act like Buffy, and since she is my girl, my favorite character, and one of my heroes, I have absolutely no interest in watching her act not-Buffy-like.  Also (and yes, this probably makes me a bad fan), I don't really have much interest in reading it if Spike isn't around in at least some capacity (I don't demand my shipper heart be satisfied, but everyone's better when they're interacting with Spike).  For that reason, I'd be open to reading Angel: After the Fall and Spike: After the Fall if I could get them for free, but I'm not a big enough comic fan to spend money on them.  I loved the ending of "Not Fade Away," even if a lot of the stuff leading up to it didn't make any sense, and I'm happy with sticking with my fic from here on out.

All that to say, this little bit of a comic that just popped up on whedonesque is the first Buffy comic I've seen.  Only a few pages, but I had tons of questions.

First off: from what I know of the comics, pretty much the only mention of Spike has been in that one much-iconed dream sequence where Buffy's all dressed up like a nurse and chained to Our Boys.  Other than a few lines here and there, there hasn't been any sort of mention of him, right?  No mourning that we ever see?  (This makes me bitter, honestly).

So even though this, too, is a dream sequence, it's much more revealing to me because she's seeing Spike (and Angel) as more than just the object of a sexual fantasy (even though that aspect is there, too).  And the fact that her subconscious has Spike accusing her of leaving him at the bottom of the crater-that-is-Sunnydale is fascinating to me.  As is her,"I missed you so much!" Now I don't have any problem with her including Angel in that, and she probably is talking to both of them, but my little shipper heart just exploded with happiness to have her say that.

...Of course that's promptly followed by "What in the Slashy Heck"ness, which is kind of hilarious.  I'm also quite pleased that Buffy knows the term slash, since she doesn't seem to be the type who would spend any time on the internet at all besides using email.  And maybe reading Go Fug Yourself.  That seems Buffy-ish.  And any time she tries to do something beyond that, she somehow does the wrong thing and her computer crashes and she has to call Willow to fix it.

Apparently, I think about thist stuff too much.

Also, Buffy should always be saying "Everybody die always."  I LOVE HER.  And that one panel of her eyes when she hears Spike's voice?  Okay, I'm pathetic--it gave me wonderful goosebumps.

Plus, all the cameos in the wedding scene are brilliant.  CLEM!

And the most important question this raises for me (I don't know why I care, it's not like I'm accepting this stuff as canon, but whatever): Does this mean that Buffy knows Spike is back from the dead?

And that was your daily dose of me being a fangirl.  Carry on.

Hee! Gives us a lot to think about, doesn't it? I think the fact that Spike's in her dream means that she does know he's back, and that he's with Angel - or was with Angel...with Caleb, Warren and Tara being certifiably dead, it's possible she's dreaming about Spike and Angel because they did perish in NFA. I guess we'll find out eventually. And if we don't like the way it goes - there's always fan fic!

Yeah, if they ever make a Buffy's-reunion-with-her-vamps issue, I will probably buy that one.

And if we don't like the way it goes - there's always fan fic! Exactly!

I don't keep up with S8 at all cause I'm not really a comics person. But I'd heard the buzz leading up to this and wanted to check it out. I think it's fantastically hilarious. I do love the way Joss pokes fun at the shippers (and, really, isn't a Spangel ending what some people were jokingly hoping for? Okay, right, it's a dream, but it's still pretty damn funny).

Anyway, I'm not even a Spangel fan and I enjoyed it. I think it's lovely. I loved how they balanced Buffy's attention towards both Spike and Angel (really, they kept it completely neutral as to "Who she really loves", which...while I would love a Spuffy ending, I don't expect it and am just happy that Spuffy's being recognized as important to Buffy on par with Bangel).

Plus, the sound effects between Spike and Angel...just make me giggle.

The shipper-jokes are such fun. I'm not really a Spangel fan either, but I adore their interactions and found this hilarious.

You put it better than I could have. Absolutely.

The sound effects (and the jackets flying off in the corner) are probably the best part. *Glide*? I can't stop laughing!

well as far as spike not being in season 8 (as much as i wish he was there!) apparently it has to do with the different people selling the comics? sorta like how angel and buffy didn't go on each others' shows as much in the later seasons because they were on different stations. : P

i ADORE this thing, though. just, so much. ; )

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sure you're right that that's the reasoning behind it...I just don't want to read it without him. I miss him too much!

Isn't it fun? I love it, too!

[identity profile] visualthinker11.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
oh, i'm right there with you. ; )
except for the part where i actually read season 8. but, you know, i read fanfic to supplement it or whatnot.

[identity profile] serendipily.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really have much interest in reading it if Spike isn't around in at least some capacity
*scoffs* Well how incrediably shallow of you. I'm ashamed.
Hee. I did the exact same thing. I stopped watching Doctor WHo after they replaced David, and don't watch any seasons of Gilmore Girls where Jess isn't in it.

spoiler-wise, Buffy doesn't act like Buffy *gasps* BLASPHEMY! What kind of sickness is this? Buffy ... un-=Buffy like. That can't happen. Cause-cause then she-she ... she turns into ... to ... Bella. *SCREAMS*

of Spike has been in that one much-iconed dream sequence where Buffy's all dressed up like a nurse and chained to Our Boys.
I had to quot eand mention how insanely blush worthy that was.

it's much more revealing to me because she's seeing Spike (and Angel) as more than just the object of a sexual fantasy
Well that's completely old news. That's been happening since 1997. Hee. Though i did Wikipedia- that and it got me thinking and my rusty old Buffy gears turning, and it was something so ... weird. But interesting. What goes on deep in the mind of Buffy?

Everybody die always."
Because you know ... *sings* Hey, Buffy's died twice ...

cameos in the wedding scene are brilliant. Wait-wait ... what?

CLEM! STFU!!! NOW I HAVE TO READ!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes. I'm very shallow. I'm only in it all for James's cheekbones. And abs. And eyes. You know.

Yeah, when I rewatch GG, I usually on watch the Jess episodes. I understand.

EW! Buffy-as-Bella? Blasphemy indeed!

Yeah, it was blushworthy.

I love you for quoting "Once More with Feeling."

Yeah--Clem has a cameo! Read it; it only takes a few minutes!

[identity profile] serendipily.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And his accent. And those tight t-shirts ... *drools* I completley lost my train of thought.

*sniffs* Well good. I thought I had to go on watching Jess Mariano's-brooding-boyish-witty-self all on my own. It's comforting to know there's someone else that's not so obsessed but does mildly the same thing.

Bella-es-ANYONE is blasphemy. Hee. That really reminds me of Buffy staking Edward. *smiles* Finally, a girl with substance and kickass-ocity can see how creepy that guy is.

Naked!Spike and Naked!Angel = GUH.

I have the soudtrack on my ipod. I was listening to it when I was tyuping that. Hee.

I saw it! I swooned. Because it's Clem. Even if he's not gorgeous or something along those shallow appearances. He's Clem. How can you not love Clem?

[identity profile] pennydrdful.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I am almost positive that if Buffy does know about Spike being alive, then they haven't revealed that yet. There hasn't been a whole lot of comments on the LA front period.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm....I guess I just really want to see what her original reaction to finding out he was alive was. Maybe they'll do a flashback?

[identity profile] rosie1234.livejournal.com 2009-07-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! I've only made is to 4 of season 8, lol, but now I can't wait to read more!
