ahem

So I'm getting ready to read all of y'all's thoughts on last night's TVD (in scanning my flist, I saw about 8 reaction posts. Which makes me laugh), but I just have one thing to say about it myself.

WHAT THE HELL WHY DID STEFAN NOT AT LEAST UNDO ELENA'S SEATBELT BEFORE SAVING MATT??????????? SHE COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF SAVING HERSELF TILL HE GOT BACK. WHAT IS THIS???????????? THAT IS SERIOUSLY ONE OF THE STUPIDEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN AND I HATE THIS KIND OF STUPIDITY. I'VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN: IF YOUR PLOT REQUIRES PEOPLE TO ACT LIKE IDIOTS, THEN IT IS A BAD PLOT.

THERE IS NO REASON SHE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET TO THE SURFACE AND JUST NOT MADE IT IN TIME. AT LEAST THEN SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ACTIVE. UGH I CANNOT WITH YOU SHOW.

That is all.

No, I'm 100% fine with her choosing Matt to be saved. I am not fine with her not even trying to get her seatbelt unbuckled, because unless she's actively suicidal, no one in their right mind would just sit there and let that happen. I can't think of any way that would make sense unless the show had established that she was, indeed, suicidal lately. It just flat-out doesn't work for me. I'm glad it does for you, though!

There's also the could be panicking response. She just doesn't think of it. We see her try to break the window. We see her waving at Stefan to get Matt. I think she did try the door handle at one point? Only thing I can think of as an otherwise is that panic brain made her ignore it. Also, I can sort of understand Stefan not getting it. It's on the opposite side, he'd have to swim over and force open her door, then get it, or swim over top of Matt and her to get it, and every second counted. He trusts Elena to take care of herself.. I'm sure he was trusting her to get her seatbelt. I'm sure he thought I'm fast, I'll get Matt out of here and then I can get her, now that I know where she is. she's a smart girl, she can get the seat belt.

Yeah, no explanation of the seatbelt. I'm sure it'll come up though. If they tell us, or make us wait for the premiere to have Stefan asking her, why why didn't you get your seatbelt off? Who knows.

I don't really trust the writers to do that, but I will be very glad if I'm wrong and it does come up! I hope it does!

Me too. I really think it had to be a directorial decision or something, cause one of the first things most people seem to try to do in that situation is get out of their seat belt to try to get air at the top of the truck? The truck filled up pretty darn quick though too! I'm hoping it's addressed :)
