ahem

So I'm getting ready to read all of y'all's thoughts on last night's TVD (in scanning my flist, I saw about 8 reaction posts. Which makes me laugh), but I just have one thing to say about it myself.

WHAT THE HELL WHY DID STEFAN NOT AT LEAST UNDO ELENA'S SEATBELT BEFORE SAVING MATT??????????? SHE COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF SAVING HERSELF TILL HE GOT BACK. WHAT IS THIS???????????? THAT IS SERIOUSLY ONE OF THE STUPIDEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN AND I HATE THIS KIND OF STUPIDITY. I'VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN: IF YOUR PLOT REQUIRES PEOPLE TO ACT LIKE IDIOTS, THEN IT IS A BAD PLOT.

THERE IS NO REASON SHE COULDN'T HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET TO THE SURFACE AND JUST NOT MADE IT IN TIME. AT LEAST THEN SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ACTIVE. UGH I CANNOT WITH YOU SHOW.

That is all.

Word.

They spend a good 45 seconds to a minute arguing underwater about whether to save Matt first or not. Hello! Just undo both seatbelts in the time it takes you to argue. Elena's conscious! She can swim her self out.

Also, Elena's got enough energy to argue with Stefan, but not enough energy to undo her seatbelt? He didn't do anything special to undo Matt's, there was not ripping or cutting or yanking. Just good ol' fashioned pushing of the button. You're telling me Elena couldn't have done that for herself once Stefan opened the door? Please.

Every single thing about the scene just made me so incredibly frustrated at the stupidity. Which is not the feeling you want your viewers to have while they're watching a scene like that. It made me so mad that it kicked me right out of the show--I was mad at the stupidity of the writers, not of the characters. When the show forces me into a Doylist pov, I resent it.
