YES IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN

And let's be honest, people. It is the Year of Knope.

HERE ARE SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS IT IS MARCH I GET TO LOSE MY MIND.

Here is a list of shows that I don't watch, so I'm unsure of who to vote for. If you're particularly passionate about a certain character (especially if it's a lady), let me know and I will take your passion into consideration when I go back and vote in these categories. YAY!

+ Archer
+ The Big Bang Theory—by which I mean, tell me which character has the best chance of beating Sheldon, please
+ It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
+ New Girl (who is NOT a douche?)
+ Avatar: The Last Airbender (which I have watched some of the first season of, but not enough to have super passionate feelings about anyone)
+ Awkward
+ The O.C.
+ Pretty Little Liars (Kyrie? You watch that, don't you?)
+ Teen Wolf
+ American Horror Story
+ Haven
+ Boardwalk Empire
+ The Wire (I know, I know! But I will watch it one day!)

My Glee vote has gone to Ms. Santana Lopez, which I'm sure most of you will appreciate. I did it for y'all. Because I love you.

My Young Justice vote is reserved for whoever Kyrie tells me to vote for. The end.

I am so impressed with the lady-love in Doctor Who. It's Donna-Amy-Martha right now AND LOOK AT YOUR GOOD TASTE, FANDOM. I could have voted for any of those ladies and been happy! I went with Martha, but seriously: it could have been any of them. Or River.

If you don’t watch Friday Night Lights: VOTE FOR TAMI TAYLOR. She is right 100% of the time. Just ask her husband. And she single-handedly keeps Dillon, Texas from falling to pieces. She is Wonder Woman.

Photobucket

Hardest choice for me? Happy Endings. I went with Brad because I've been remembering and laughing about his Dentist Dance all day, but I could go any direction there (except Dave).

I will be switching my HIMYM vote over from Marshall to Robin. Because I LOVE the idea of her beating Barney, lbr.

I will forever be sad that Emily Gilmore will never win the GG category. *tear*

IF YOU VOTED FOR FRANK GALLAGHER I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU HE IS ACTUALLY THE WORST CHARACTER I HAVE EVER SEEN MY OTP FOR THAT SHOW IS FRANK/DEATH.

[identity profile] zombie_boogie.livejournal.com 2012-03-06 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Penny probably has the best chance of beating Sheldon. I'd be happy with either Penny or Amy, but I just want Sheldon gone (and with him and Barney out that would represent two of my comedy bracket nemeses vanquished! Huzzah!)

Honestly right now I'm too busy sobbing over the fact that SANSA STARK IS WINNING FOR GAME OF THRONES that I can't handle much else right now.

I found it hard to vote for Happy Endings too. I went with Jane, but I'd be happy with Alex, Brad, or Jane. Or Penny, I suppose, even if she doesn't come close to the first three in my heart.

BUT OH MY GOD THEY INCLUDED HARRY POTTER AND THE HUNGER GAMES AND THE AVENGERS CRAP CRAP CRAP THAT CHANGES EVERYTHIIIIIING.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I shall vote for Penny, then.

Honestly right now I'm too busy sobbing over the fact that SANSA STARK IS WINNING FOR GAME OF THRONES that I can't handle much else right now.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? WHEN DID THE WORLD BECOME SO BEAUTIFUL?

. I went with Jane, but I'd be happy with Alex, Brad, or Jane.

Those three are my favorites. FAVORITES.

BUT OH MY GOD THEY INCLUDED HARRY POTTER AND THE HUNGER GAMES AND THE AVENGERS CRAP CRAP CRAP THAT CHANGES EVERYTHIIIIIING.

I KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. And I used one of my rare not-a-lady votes for Ron because I can't not because RON. But I voted the heck out of Katniss, let me tell you. Those books are so uneven, but Katniss is amazing.

1) Your Emily Gilmore love never fails to make me smile.
2) Re: The Wire, I voted Kima Greggs. She is, well, ridiculously awesome. And Omar has enough fans. Heck, he's got the president.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
1) I didn't realize how much I loved her until one day [livejournal.com profile] dollsome pointed out that she is the best, and I was like, "...you know what? She IS."

2. I approve of ridiculously awesome ladies. My vote there won't make any difference it seems, so I will change over to her! Yay!

[identity profile] blackfrancine.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
DUDE! I've been rewatching/watching for the first time The Wire!

And Omar! He has my heart (and everyone else's, I know). Also Kima! I love her. I'm going to write things, about this show, I'm sure of it. Probably about the D'Angelo/Wallace/Naiman strain of characters. We'll see.

[identity profile] ceciliaj.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
D'Angeloooooo! I love him. So excited for your thoughts.

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
OMAR IS THE BEST

[identity profile] ghostyouknow27.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
For Archer, I nominate Pam for ALL THE WIN.

For the Big Bang Theory, I'd go with Amy Farrah Fowler. :)

(I haven't seen the last two seasons of Always Sunny, but I'm guessing Charlie is still a good bet. y/y?).

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent! Advice! Thank you!

[identity profile] ghostyouknow27.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Let me know if I get any challengers, and I will stan for my ladies. :D

[identity profile] ellievanna.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I voted for Toph in Avatar, because she is one of the most badass of characters ever (however I love everyone on that show so it isn't that big of a deal). But, Toph is really awesome and regularly beats people who are twice (or more) her size and she's also blind but still manages to be one of the most skilled benders in the world.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
SOLD! :D
snickfic: Buffy Dawn weird love is better than no love (Buffy Dawn sister love)

[personal profile] snickfic 2012-03-07 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard to go wrong on ATLA. I voted for Zuko because he's, like, complex and stuff, but Toph is indeed really awesome, and Uncle Iroh is so much more badass than you've probably seen yet, and Azula is unapologetically terrifying. And also, who doesn't love a flying bison? Seriously, pretty much all the choices are good choices there.

I'm a little stunned by the lady-love. Has it always been like this? The number of male leads getting whomped by their female sidekicks is kind of blowing me away.

I voted Ainsley Hayes and thought of you, BTW.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of figured that with ATLA. I really need to finish that show. I really do.

Has it always been like this?

It has not. The first...three years? it was practically all white guys the last couple of rounds. Dean, Ten, Sheldon, Barney, etc. Then the third year in we started a NOT A GUY campaign and Buffy won. Then last year we got Troy all the way through (I still can't believe that happened). The tide seems to have turned.

I voted for Ainsley, too! If CJ was in danger of being knocked out by someone else, I might have been convinced to change my vote to her, but since I knew she would safely win I went with the owner of my heart.

[identity profile] madcap-shiny.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHA I AM HONORED TO BE IN CHARGE OF YOUR YJ-MAKING DECISIONS. I am currently struggling super-hard in my soul because it's down to my ladies M'gann and Artemis (I do love Zatanna, too, but she hasn't had as much screentime/development yet so I am willing to let her go). I am currently leaning towards M'gann just because she is much more reviled in fandom and the FUCK YOU SHE'S AWESOME factor is strong, but uggggggggh Artemis my prickly sensible sarcastic guilty redemption-seeking beloved. ;__________; BUT ALSO M'GANN IS SO PRECIOUS AND FASCINATING AND KIND AND EARNEST AND SHE LIKES TO BAKE? I'm, uh. Having a hard time, is what I mean to say here. (Probably I am going to go with M'gann though because seriously, man, fandom is such a jerk to her that I WANT TO GET WHAT INEFFECTUAL REVENGE I CAN. ):<)

Also I did read the first four PLL books but have no experience with the show, lolllll. I went with the Santana strategy and gave my vote to Emily Fields, the awesome queer lady of color, so that is who I would recommend if you don't care!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
SHE'S KIND AND EARNEST AND LIKES TO BAKE YET FANDOM HATES HER? UGH FANDOM I HATE YOU! I will vote for her, then!

I figured out why I thought you watched PLL--I confused it with the Secret Circle. Which is a terrible mistake to make.

There is someone begging for Emily votes in the comments, so I can live with voting for her.

[identity profile] madcap-shiny.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
GOOD CHOICES. YJ fandom is the actual worst, true story. Also I am shocked that Artemis and Robin are neck and neck - Artemis is wonderful and seems to be pretty popular but Robin is ROBIN. Man. I don't regret voting M'gann, but if Artemis is this close to being ahead I hope she wins the bracket.

Ha! It's hardly the worst insult ever. I don't know how good or bad PLL is but TSC very markedly Not That Good At All (I stick around for ladies and over-the-top magic shenanigans) so it's not like you're on the level, idk, mixing Glee up with The Wire or something. I have no idea whatsoever how the stars could align to cause that to happen, but there it is.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Why do so many of the best shows have the worst fandoms? *sigh*

Hee! That scenario made me giggle.

[identity profile] pocochina.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
true story: I have never even seen FNL but I voted for Tami Taylor FOR YOU.

Or River.

DONNA NOBLE

MY GIRLFRIEND IS WINNING

WINNIIIIIIIIIING!

(Mostly I threw my votes toward ladies who clearly weren't going to win - Ann and Bonnie and Tonks, <3. BUT DONNA, DONNA FTW.)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww! Tami and I are so honored!

I love Donna so hard. SO HARD. I am so happy for you!

I could have voted for any of the TVD ladies. I ended up changing my vote to Elena because I liked the way the Elena stans campaigned, but I could just as easily have voted for Bonnie. OH BONNIE.

[identity profile] agnes-bean.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I have thoughts!

New Girl: I like Jess alright, but Winston is by far my favorite, and by far the least douchy of the guys.

Pretty Little Liars: VOTE SPENCER HASTINGS. She is 16, and she is still my role model. Smart, determined, neurotic, loving, ruthless -- she is endlessly fascinating and IMO the best part of the show by far.

The Wire: I see you've voted Kima, which is ridiculously reasonable, because Kima Greggs is a badass of the best sort. But going forward -- since it seems clear Omar will get the nom -- I encourage you to vote Omar if you don't have other feeling in the category. The man is endlessly complicated, has a strong moral code despite making a living robbing drug dealers, and while he's not a lady, half of his crew are badass lesbians. (Also he's gay! But in no way defined by it! But his relationships are still really important to him! There are not enough characters like that)

[identity profile] blackfrancine.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
OMARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I love him. I also love everyone else. Everyone. I love Stringer Bell and Avon and GOD D'Angelo. And McNulty even though he's an ass and Bunk and Kima and Daniels and Snoop--she and Chris are so cold blooded it's amazing.

I just want to talk about this show. Sorry to bombard you.

[identity profile] agnes-bean.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Never be sorry to bombard me about The Wire. It is one of my favorite shows ever, and there are never enough people to talk to it about.

This show has an amazing cast of characters. There is no a single one I dislike -- or, of course, there ARE, but they are the ones I'm supposed to dislike, so I find them interesting. No character misses the mark for me, is I guess what I'm saying.

I mean GOD -- Stringer Bell. One of the most amazing characters of all time along with Omar, and his relationship with Avon is one of the single greatest and most tragic stories in the history of stories. I will definitely stand by that statement (SEASON 3, MY GOD). And KIMA. And jeez, Snoop -- so terrifying, and yet so humanized in her last scene (I have never seen five words be used so damned effectively, ever).

*flails*

[identity profile] ceciliaj.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Make a post please! Make a post about The Wire! My day would be so happy!

[identity profile] blackfrancine.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
YOUR ICON. BWAHAHAHAAHA. I love it.

I totally want to post about it. But maybe I'll finish it first? I'm in S4 now, and I'm making pretty good time, so it won't be long.

But OMG. D'Angelo. My BB. Everyone on that show is my BB. Gah. Right now, I'm just getting reacquainted with Michael. *sob* I love him so. My poor, sweet boy.

Also, for a brief, shining moment, I was shipping McNulty/me. I think I'm over it, though. I've moved on to Lt. Daniels/me.

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG THAT SHOW

D'Angelo and baby Michael.

HAHAHA YOUR SHIPPING A+

[identity profile] spuffy-noelle.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I always seem to love all the douche-y-est characters? Should probably seek counseling (oh, wait, I am a counselor).

This Fandom March Madness business is out of control and I have a lot of hard decisions to make.

Happy Endings is between Jane and Brad and I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE TO PICK :( Probably end up going with Brad though...

New Girl - Schmidt is a douche and I love him for it.

Awkward - Jenna's winning by a long shot, and I love her, but Sadie is the biggest a-hole going and is hysterical on that show.

Boardwalk Empire has such a great cast of characters and I'm debating between Nucky Thompson and Jimmy Darmody.

This is so much fun. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
JANE OR BRAD JANE OR BRAD HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY CHOOOOOSE? They go together! We should be able to vote for them as a unit!

I know absolutely nothing about Awkward at all, so thanks for the insights.

YAY GAMES!

I AM HERE TO GIVE WIRE SUGGESTIONS!

[identity profile] blackfrancine.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I've been watching nothing but the Wire for the last 2 weeks. So, I have some major feelings about it.

Omar is gonna win, hands down. Nothing will change that. And it's fine--he deserves it. But here's some other good characters:

D'Angelo Barksdale
Stringer Bell
Bubbles!
Snoop Pearson

I suggest either Bubbles or Snoop.

Other shows...
New Girl:
Schmidt! No question!

Big Bang Theory:
I voted Bernadette because she's excellent, but she can't beat Sheldon. I don't know who can. Maybe Penny? Or Wallowitz?

Teen Wolf:
Stiles

Always Sunny:
Charlie!
Or Sweet Dee if you prefer a lady

Re: HIMYM,
I FULLY SUPPORT MOVING YOUR VOTE TO ROBIN. ALL THE VOTES SHOULD BE MOVED TO ROBIN. DOWN WITH BARNEY'S REIGN OF TERROR.

I share your tears over Emily Gilmore's inevitable loss. How can more people not love her?

Re: I AM HERE TO GIVE WIRE SUGGESTIONS!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
OH THANK YOU!

I really, really need to get with the Wire picture. *sigh*

DOWN WITH BARNEY'S REIGN OF TERROR.

AMEN.

I share your tears over Emily Gilmore's inevitable loss. How can more people not love her?

I KNOOOOOOW.

Re: I AM HERE TO GIVE WIRE SUGGESTIONS!

[identity profile] blackfrancine.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. I think you would love the Wire. Like, I'd seen a season and half or so of it, so I knew that I loved it and that it was amazing. But now that I'm watching it from the beginning, I'm even more blown away. The writing. It's like nothing that has ever been done. I just. I can't.

I was trying to explain it to my bf the other day, and the thing I came up with was that it's like the great truth teller of our time. Like, everything you've ever seen about cops and robbers and politics and all of the dilemmas of our modern urban society? It all suddenly makes sense. Everything we've ever been shown is a lie. Stupid procedurals like Law and Order that are supposed to be gritty and real? Lies. Kids play. Current events shows with pundits talking about politics? Lies. Crime dramas? Lies. I just. It's like a whole new world is unveiled.

I probably sound totally goofy and hyperbolic. But that's really how I feel. It just all suddenly makes so much sense why everything in this world is screwed up. The Wire explains it all.

And the real victory of this show is the characters. Holy smokes. It's just this enormous cast--and pretty much every. single. character. is remarkable. The writing. The humanization. GAH. It makes my heart swell to know that this is even possible.

In summation, I like the Wire.

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You should watch The Wire, Lauren!

Each season is like a novel where the POV changes in how the drug scene/culture is explored in Baltimore. It's amazing.

It's a five-novel series they made into a TV show. It's masterful. It's one of the best shows ever. The writing, the acting, the characters <3

I would normally worry that I'm overselling it, but it's just so QUALITY.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely, definitely will! It's one of those that I already know I'll love. I just feel like I have to be in the right mood for it? And right now I'm in delightful!Kdrama!mood. But soon! Soon!

[identity profile] ahigheroctave.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Lorelai dominates GG every year. :( And it looks like CJ will be tripping the West Wing again. No fun.

This could be the year for Leslie! I'd say honestly, she'll win comedy hands down since Community and The Big Bang Theory have both won in recent years and the Modern Family fans aren't united enough. Something tells me she might end up against Caroline.
Edited 2012-03-07 03:27 (UTC)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-07 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
There should be closer races in some of those categories! I mean, I love CJ like mad, and I love that she gets to represent TWW, but...where's the love for Toby? And the Barlets? And AINSLEY?

'd say honestly, she'll win comedy hands down since Community and The Big Bang Theory have both won in recent years and the Modern Family fans aren't united enough

I hope you are right!

Something tells me she might end up against Caroline

BATTLE OF THE BLONDES!

I logged on this morning, saw Donna Noble was winning the DW category, and decided the universe was an alright place to live. SUCH JOY.

I can't not vote for Jane from Happy Endings because I adore her. But Brad is also a good choice.

ERIC TAYLOR, MOLDER OF MEN. I know, he failed in the last season. But still. A Taylor win is a win all around.

Emily :( I voted for her, but I know almost nobody does.
