lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([btvs] there were never such devoted)

oh, i meant to tell y'all!

The Lil Sis has started watching Supernatural, which amuses me greatly. I asked her for her feelings and she said, "Eh. It's okay. The guy who wasn't Dean on Gilmore Girls is hot." You can see why I'm in fandom and she's not, I suppose. She's only a few episodes in, but I will totally keep you updated if she has any entertaining thoughts on the show. I hope she does.

Lol, I can't wait to see your sister's first impressions XD. I've recently started watching this show myself, so I can easily compare her reactions to mine ;).

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-21 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Her thoughts will not be thoughtful. She's very much the average sort of viewer where she watches something and either enjoys/doesn't enjoy it then doesn't think about it much anymore. So she probably won't have any ~insights~ but she might make us laugh. I hope!

YOUR ICON. I AM STEALING IT NOW.

To be honest, my Spn thoughts aren't very intelligent as well ;). But then, Monster of the Week is definitely not my favorite formula.

ENJOY THE ICON :). Judging by your blurb, you might also like this one:

The difference between her and me isn't so much that she's not thoughtful about TV (I'm definitely not always, either), it's that she doesn't have FEELINGS ABOUT EVERYTHING the way I do. I almost wish I could watch TV the way she does, but I can't. I get so invested I cannot even tell you. But you know. ;D Anyone who writes TVD meta like you do understands FEELINGS I think. :D

A VLOGBROTHERS QUOTE ICON. *grabby hands* Thanks so much!

FEELINGS are the worst! They happen, and they break your heart, and, what's worse, they bring WORD VOMITS, sometimes accompanied by RAINBOW VOMITS. Then gifspams start, and hell breaks loose. I hate FEELINGS.

VLOGBROTHERS ARE THE BEST! I fell in love with them when it turned out that I don't only have inappropriate FEELINGS about TV, I also have inappropriate FEELINGS about books, and now my class gives me all sorts of judgy looks ;). You know, I'm this weird, nerdy, feminist girl who talks too much and enjoys many of the books from the reading list. Apparently, it's not cool for an English Major to like books XD.

I know! Just imagine how much more relaxing our lives would be without them?

Nerdfighters are the BEST. You should not feel any shame about loving the Green brothers!

Apparently, it's not cool for an English Major to like books XD

This is ridiculous. You're right; they're wrong.

The fact that Dean from Gilmore Girls became one of the two leads on a new show where the other lead was named Dean weirded me out too. CONFUSING! I still think they should have renamed the character when they hired Jared Padalecki. Also the WB, now CW, loves reusing actors - Jensen Ackles was a regular on Smallville as Lana's boyfriend the season before SPN started.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-21 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It was SO CONFUSING at first. Now I tend to forget that there even was a character named Dean on GG, mostly because I was a Jess girl. But I agree--changing the name would have been a wise move.

The guy who wasn't Dean on Gilmore Girls is hot.

Yes. Yes, he is.

My roommie is a HUGE GG fan, so for the first season or so of SPN that we watched together, she would still get their names mixed up.

I want to hear all your sister's thoughts. Yes. I am so excited! Poco's watching, and Emmie's through S2, and now your sis! \o/

I readily acknowledge that this show does some things really badly. But I love it SO MUCH.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-21 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Yes, he is.

That was my reaction when she said that.

Yeah, Lil Sis has all of the seasons of GG and watches them all the time. So I have a feeling she's going to get pretty confused.

If she says anything interesting at all, I will report back!

I readily acknowledge that this show does some things really badly. But I love it SO MUCH.

This is my relationship with almost every show that I love.

lol, the guy who WASN'T Dean.

Why does Sam's hotness get no love? Not that I care (I'm not attracted to either of them), but it's interesting.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-21 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I find Dean very pretty, but Sam doesn't do anything for me. I mean, sometimes I find him puppy-dog cute, but I never think of him as hot. But that's just speaking for myself.
snickfic: bw Sam in plaid (Sam 1)

[personal profile] snickfic 2012-02-21 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely find him hotter now than I did when I started the show. I'm pretty equal opportunity in my Winchester brother crushes these days. But I like Sam as a character a whole lot more now than when I started, not that that necessarily correlates.

I quit watching GG before the Dean character was introduced so I have no problem with the name.

Also, I found out over the holidays that my sister watched a Walking Dead marathon on AMC and watches the show now. I can't even tell you how very weird it is to me to have actual people in real life to discuss tv with.

Wow! You must have only watched like half of one season! I thought Dean showed up in S1!

I can't even tell you how very weird it is to me to have actual people in real life to discuss tv with

Isn't it strange?

[identity profile] menomegirl.livejournal.com 2012-02-22 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! You must have only watched like half of one season!

That's about right. I stopped watching Dawson's Creek at right about half the first season too. Angsty teen drama, not really my thing.

It is strange. I watch things most of my family does not; additionally, the programs that they watch bore me to tears. So yeah. Strange.

I used to talk to my dad for hours on end about movies we'd watched but our tv viewing habits were very different. I tried to get him to watch BtVS but he just couldn't get into it.

About the last way I'd describe Gilmore Girls is as an angsty teen drama, but to each their own.

I watch things most of my family does not; additionally, the programs that they watch bore me to tears. So yeah

Me, too. My daddy and I watch a lot of the same movies, too, but yeah, our TV habits are very different.

I remember discussing non-canon shipping with my sister once and she was so confused. She was like "But if they're not together on the show, how do you know if they would be good together? Where would you even get the idea?" I was wondering how "the idea" doesn't just jump out at her like it does for me. Funny how sisters can be so different.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-22 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)

The way you get the idea that people would be good together in real life? How funny!

Funny how sisters can be so different.

It really, really is.

[identity profile] shamoogity.livejournal.com 2012-02-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I think maybe what it comes down to for her is that fictional characters don't exist outside of the script. It wouldn't occur to her to think "What if things had happened differently?"

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-02-22 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine not coming up with different scenarios! I've done that all my life!
