lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([xf] out there)
lirazel ([personal profile] lirazel) wrote2012-01-30 10:36 am

oh yeah. it's a monday

+ So I overslept, which meant I ran out the door, which meant that I didn't take my pills, which means that I will probably be feeling like I want to die at about 1:00 when my brain chemistry starts FREAKING OUT. Oh, anti-depressants. The things you do to me.

+ Anyway! I have a question for y'all who are X-Files-y inclined.

So I'm two episodes into the 7th season (I will finish this show one day, I swear). And...I'm confused. Because S6 ended with Mulder being driven out of his mind by the device, whatever it was, and Scully standing on top of a spaceship or whatever. It was a pretty awesome finale. Except that right now it seems like NONE OF THAT HAPPENED. Seriously? This is all I'm going to get? Am I supposed to just assume that Mulder got better? And they're not even going to reference it? I'm supposed to forget that it happened? IS THIS A SITCOM?

I can handle the no explanation about the spaceship--this show drops and picks up the mytharc threads all the freakin' time, so I'm used to that. BUT MULDER WAS IN AN INSTITUTION. SCREAMING HIS LUNGS OUT. I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION FOR THIS SHIT.

I...just...am not sure what to do?

+ And another question: if I want to change the text on my journal so that all of it (in the entries/comments) is in a darker font so that I can read it a little better (I love the color scheme, but it does require some eye-straining), what code do I need to look for in the CSS? I've changed a few colors, I thought, but nothing seems to have changed, so I must be changing the wrong thing, I guess? Any thoughts?

+ [livejournal.com profile] snickfic's latest fic revived all of my Jo Harvelle feelings and now I want ALL the fic where Jo's interacting with Dean (shippy or non, I don't even care). Any recs, y'all?

+ I miss Leverage already.

+ And a quick poll:

[Poll #1815188]

It's been so long ago. Are we talking about when Scully dug up the ship in Africa?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she didn't dig it up? She found another bit of the artifact and then the camera pulled back and she was standing on top of it. But I couldn't tell whether she could see it or not.

[identity profile] shipperx.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm virtually certain she dug it up. (God, my memory is vague now. I used to have this stuff memorized). Weren't there visions and stuff? Doesn't this somehow lead into the episode Amore Fati? Where Mulder has those weird apocalyptic visions?

And I seem to think that either she dug up another one or it's this one that's still being studied because I think there was something about that in the William arc later.

(Boy, it's shocking to me how my memory has faded.)

Back in the day X-Files pattern was that it would have a mytharc episode basically during sweeps and then between sweeps it would mostly be MOTW. (Which probably makes it more strange in DVD viewing, but had a certain rhythem to it at the time).

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...then it must return later. Because none of that stuff you're talking about has happened yet. So that's good--knowing it will be back!

Oh man, my grasp of late season continuity is shaky, to say the least (to be fair, so was Chris Carter's). All I remember about the S7 premiere is the ultra-shmoopy "you're my touchstone" ending (I'm a sucker for shmoop, so I love that scene), and Mulder in the terrible old age make-up dreaming about the alien invasion, with dream!Scully coming in and metaphorically kicking his ass to wake up. I can't remember if Mulder going insane is ever referenced again, but I do know that later on, I think in S8, ~things going on inside Mulder's brain~ (being purposely vague to avoid spoilers) will come up that might be related.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...I don't think that's the S7 premiere--or else I missed an episode. I haven't seen that yet. The premiere was this not-so-great MOW that reminded me of Doublemeat Palace, actually--this guy who works at a fastfood place keeps eating peoples' brains.

Eh. Oh, well. Totally forgetting that he was even in that institution is an egregious violation of sense-making, but I can't say I wasn't warned.
molly_may: (Mulder facepalm)

[personal profile] molly_may 2012-01-30 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Huh. I just looked at an episode guide, and the order the episodes were filmed in, and the way they're numbered is not the way they originally aired. So, watch the next two episodes for the continuation of the S6 finale, and pretend I didn't say anything about shmoopy scenes or terrible old age make-up.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay! That is good to know! Maybe things will make a little more sense now!

[identity profile] shipperx.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The episode MollyMay is speaking of is Amor Fati which in my head is the follow-up to the season finale you were talking about, but darn if I remember what the airing order was.
molly_may: (Scully runs in heels - cartographies)

[personal profile] molly_may 2012-01-30 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I just checked my DVDs, and the airing order there is
The Sixth Extinction
Amor Fati
Hungry
Millenium

This episode guide gives Hungry and The Goldberg Variation as being the first two episodes produced for the season, but I'm pretty certain they aired in the order that is on the DVDs, because otherwise the plot makes even less sense than The X-Files normally does.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Both the place where I downloaded it and the website I've been using as a resource (it has all the transcripts and stuff) have Hungry and The Goldberg Variations first. Which is how I watched it. I am SO PLEASED to know there's stuff that actually makes sense that I've just missed out on. I will have to watch that episode tonight!

I go here:

http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml?group=style

(User Info -> Journal -> Journal Style -> Customize your theme (top right) -> Style)

You can choose colours on all fonts etc with a nifty pop up colour chart. :)

Thank you! Is that going to work when I have a custom CSS applied?

I... have NO IDEA! /o\

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking it doesn't, because it looks like the text on that page is set to basic black...but that's obviously not what the font is in. But it's still good to know!

AWW. Yay rec! Thank you!

I feel I have read very little Jo fic. Here's basically everything I have in my "previously read" list:

Sorority - BtVS/SPN, st_salieri so of course it's wonderful, heartbreaking

In the Quiet of the Night - uh, have some sweet low-key Jo/Castiel?

this is how you set a table for tea - Jo/Henriksen. You know, that FBI agent who was after the boys in S2. No, really.

Coming Clean - Jo/Dean. Uh, kinda porny? But in a sweet, well-characterized sort of way. According to my notes, author has written more Jo/Dean, too.

And that's all I've got.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! And thank you!

[identity profile] hkath.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Waaaait. It has been a really (really) long time, so I might be totally wrong, but is it possible that the first X-Files movie takes place between these 2 seasons? I remember Scully standing on the beach and the reveal of the alien ship leading into the movie!

I really could be wrong, though. I got to a point with X-Files where I would instantly forget mytharc episodes because I just didn't have any more room in my brain. The standalone episodes, I remember clearly and fondly, but ask me about the overarching plot and I have no idea.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope! The movie was between 5 and 6.

I do not blame you at all. It's hella confusing.

Klaus/birthdays because imagining what he does for his own birthday will never cease to amuse me. But it's cruel to make us choose!

Good luck today! I know how much forgetting meds sucks :(

Thank you!

looking at the comments, it seems like you've watched the episodes in some sort of odd order by someone else's design i'm sure. if you watch them in the airing order or at least the proper order whatever that is then everything will make sense. the s7 premier shouldn't be a motw so hopefully you'll get that sorted. :(

also omg jo fic reading asap

[identity profile] zombie_boogie.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
To change your font colour, go into the field where you plopped in your custom CSS and look for the text colour - it can be different in every code, but it usually is a number following some combination of "font" and "colour", and it will probably also say "body" somewhere around there as well (since you're looking to change the font colour in the body of the text as opposed to, say, the subject or the tags). My eyedropper tool in Photoshop tells me your font text is #b9b9c8, but that may not be accurate. Then you just substitute it for a different colour number - you can probably Google to find a bunch of HTML codes for different colours.

Oh man, I can't even remember much of the mytharc after the first movie! I actually really love seasons six and seven, but that's because I love the standalone episodes, especially the ones with a more comedic slant ("Je Souhaite" at the end of S7 is one of my favourite episodes ever). I think by the time those seasons came around I was only in it for the MoTW and the shipping.

[identity profile] slaymesoftly.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear you're working on making the fonts darker. Your journal and one other (a community, I think) have been very difficult for me to read for any length of time due to the very light text. :)

Don't remember if I've recced this here before, but I wave it at anyone who asks for Jo!fic:
Put It All In Bags, Just Call It Charity: AU-ish fic where Jo encounters Adam (aka John Winchester's third son from S4)in jail after a hunt gone awry. Awesome unexpected friendship and fabulous Harvelle women banter.
