Just what I need—another fandom.

Thanks to ava_leigh_fitz , I now have a new obsession. 

Supernatural.

People whose fanfiction I adore have been cranking out a lot of Supernatural stuff lately, which I couldn’t read because I hadn’t seen a single episode of the show.  I remember when they were showing the teasers before the show started—the end of the pilot with the blood dripping on Jared Padalecki’s head.  Since I wasn’t that big of a fan of his on “Gilmore Girls” (I’m a Jess girl; so sue me), I decided the show probably wasn’t worth watching.  Besides, I hate horror.  Suspense, I adore—I will watch anything Hitchcock, although I love his more subtle stuff—from “Rebecca” through “Rear Window” and “Rope” through “Marnie”—as opposed to his darker stuff—“Psycho” and “The Birds.”  But so many people seemed to love this show that I decided that sooner or later, I’d check it out. 

Here’s where ava_leigh_fitz comes in.  She mentioned a site where I could find links to episodes online.  I told her that I was taking a class and working right now, so it might be a while before I got around to watching them.

Oh, y’all.  I should have known that I didn’t have the self control not to watch them.  If they’re right there, I’m going to give in.  

I started on Sunday afternoon.  I’m already three episodes into Season 2, which is just pathetic.  This is even worse than watching the first two seasons of “Veronica Mars” during exams. 

But at least I’m still caught up with all my reading for class.  And I’ve got an A in there right now.  And I’m working quite a bit.  I don’t know how I’m doing all this. 

But here’s the kicker.

The class I’m taking?  British Gothic fiction.  “The Monk” and “Dracula” and “The Turn of the Screw”…this is what I’m reading right now.  Needless to say, I’ve been a bit jumpy lately.  I have a fairly low tolerance for “scariness,” just because I never watch/read scary stuff.  The combination of all these books plus my “Supernatural” marathon is resulting in the fraying of my delicate nerves.  The other night I thought about going and sleeping in my little sister's room—I’m home for the summer—like we used to do when we were little and got scared.  She probably would have yelled at me (she doesn’t like to be woken up, and neither do I, for that matter), so I’m glad I didn’t, but the temptation was there.

That’s silly, of course.  At any rate, the show is wonderful.  Even aside from the fact that it’s all two insanely hot guys running around and kicking demon ass and such, it’s actually a good show on its own, because it’s about something.  Just like Joss Whedon’s shows are about building community and making sacrifices (at least, that’s what I assume “Buffy” is about, too—I haven’t ever seen it because I refuse to watch shows unless I can watch them from the beginning and seven seasons is a lot to get into.  But I desperately want to watch it!), this show is about family.  Really.  I’m not lying.  It totally is.  About a family that would do anything for each other and has to make hard decisions every day.  I love it.

Oh, and mark down Dean Winchester on my TV boyfriends list, right below Logan Echolls and Malcolm Reynolds and above Steven Hyde.

I adore Firefly. I've very rarely been so emotionally satisfied by a show (since the Big Damn Movie came out, at least). I adore Wash, too--he's definitely my second favorite of the guys, and Alan Tudyk totally deserves to get more work.

Again with the beautiful icons. I think I going have to see a Knight's Tale again, just because of Tudyk. For the girls i love kalee, there is such an innocence to her and she is jsut a real woman of a girl (if that makes any sense)

To think I only befirended who originally because of Always on checkmated and now I realize with have such similar tastes.

Yeah, I love that icon. And he is totally the best thing about A Knight's Tale--well, him and Paul Bettany, who's glorious.

Over time, I've become a big Zoe fan--she kicks ass, but she's gorgeous and has a wonderful marriage and is the definition of loyalty. But Kaylee's a sweetie, and I have a soft spot for Inara and for River, of course...I just love all the characters on that show!

Well, I'm glad you did friend me--we do have quite a bit in common!

SQUEE for Paul Bettany. He is just so pretty. Yes I agree with the Zoe thing. She is so amazinfg as both an individual and as a wife and that is really remarkable. I never scene a TV show with a charcter like her. WHo was so independent and yet so stable to be in a committed marriage.
