So I wrote a letter for the Give-Sungyeol-More-Confidence-Project, but I'm also wanting to send something ~arty. And so I fooled around in gimp with some pictures, and I want y'all's input on them. Any good? Embarrassing? Suggestions? Which ones do you like best? You don't have to know anything about kpop, just know what you like when it comes to art.
Anything I should send, or should I just stick with the letter? I appreciate y'all's feedback.
This is also a time for me to express once again how FRUSTRATING it is that 95% of the good pics of these guys are fantaken and fans won't let other fans edit their pics, not even with credit and when it comes to fanworks I REALLY MISS WESTERN MEDIA FANDOM A WHOLE LOT because everyone encouraged everyone else to use their stuff. *wistful sigh*

like this(I actually know the word in English, I swear, I just have forgotten it), that's something that reaaaally bothers me. I've had a few discussions about this since I got into this fandom, and it sort of bothers me that they absolutely forbid using them even with credit and then go all drama when someone uses them without credit. Well, gurl, if you won't allow the first, the second is going to happen. And then them and other fans rub in your face the fact that fansites are closing because of this: breaking news, you're posting good photos on the internet and telling people "do not touch", how well do you think things are going to go for you? They'd save themselves LOTS of problems if they just implemented a policy of "ok, take, WITH CREDIT", because ofc there will be people not listening (there will always be) but the majority of artists would have no problem at all in following that. Fandom should be about sharing and, honestly, if you are posting photos on the internet, you are already sharing, in a way. I just don't get if they are really naive that they think photos are really not going to be edited, either, lol.ok, I'm leaving now, lol <3

UGH I KNOW. It drives me craaazy. I totally understand being mad if people passed off your pics as their own or if they made money off what you did. I'd be the first to shout those people down! But not letting people make icons of your pics or letting people gif your videos? Seriously? That just seems terribly selfish or something. Fandom is all about sharing, just like you say. I will never understand it. I've been told that Eastern fandoms aren't built around transformative works like Western fandoms are--it's in our fannish DNA to share and transform EVERYTHING and it isn't in theirs? But that still just boggles my mind. I WANT fans to share as much as possible!
Aerintine says when she's wildly independently wealthy she's going to buy all the best camera equipment and go follow the guys around and take all the pics/video of them and tell people to GO WILD with them and do whatever they want with them. Another reason she's my hero.

My letter is SUCH a big sister letter it's almost embarrassing, me giving him advice and encouragement and stuff. I talked about how there are a lot of people who care about him and want him to succeed but don't expect him to be perfect, so you can definitely fall in that category!no subject

I just wanted to know how many of us he makes smile and that if he pretends to have more confidence than he really has, that that's not being dishonest--it's being true to the person he wants to become. And that we just want him to be happy and that we believe in him! I also told him to make sure to take care of himself and stay healthy because I worry about him and he doesn't want someone he's never met on the other side of the planet worrying about him and I sounded so maternal hahaha! I hope he actually does read it, but even if he doesn't, it was still a positive thing to do.

I like the second pink one, the second purple one, the second yellow one, and the first red one best. If I had to choose just one, I'd go for either the yellow or the red. I have no justification other than I like those poses best (even though they don't show off his doll face like the pink and purple ones do). What's your thought about how you'll include them with the letter?
Also, re: fantaken fanpics/vids/etc. DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED. /growly

The whole thing is absolute, utter bullshit. When I make my plan happen I will probably have to have an escort with me so all the bullshitters won't try to grab my camera once they realize I'm taking away their entitlement to their "toys." Ugh, it just makes me so mad. THAT IS NOT WHAT FANDOM IS. You do not to claim other people as your property. Not even their likenesses. Not even if your camera cost you a month's pay. Not even if you have a really cool computer and worked really hard to upload the photos/videos. The idols' faces still don't belong to you. The idols still don't belong to you. You do not get to commodify their existence and claim ownership of it. Period.

The thing is--most of the reasonable, more grown-up fans on tumblr 100% support it and it's only the whinier, more entitled fans (who are helplessly immature, but most of them are super young, so I'm hoping they'll outgrow it) who speak out against it, and I feel like I must be on the wrong side! But then I remember how fandom has ALWAYS worked in my experience and I remember that I'm not crazy.

I...may have done that. With this icon (and the others like it). I wanted it really bad and it's from a fancam. There isn't anything on the youtube page about not screencapping, so I did. And I made an icon. And the person who filmed it's name is credited on my userpics page. BOOM.

I feel your frustration. The only way I know to contribute to fandoms are through graphics and if I ever start doing them for kpop fandom it's going to be so confusing figuring out what I'm actually allowed to edit, and to find pictures and things and stuff to gif and ugh. It's so different from what I'm used to, and I don't like it.
