My first thought on finishing "Dr. Horrible"?

I knew it. I knew Joss couldn't write anything (even, apparently, a comedic musical) without killing off a major character.

But I'm still completely in shock.

I mean, here I was, enjoying the heck out of Nathan's horribly smarmy song and his over-the-top grins and seeing David Fury and Marti Noxon playing the newscasters (and how much of a fangirl am I for recognizing writers?) and thinking that Maurisa is totally cute and that I really need a Captain Hammer groupie shirt and laughing at the humor and then--

How could you kill Felicia Day, Joss Whedon? Have you no soul?

But at the same time, could it have gone any other way? I mean, seriously? I now see that it was an origins story, all along--how Dr. Horrible became Dr. Horrible. And that is awesome and so well-done. And isn't the thing I've always loved about Joss's work the juxtaposition of humor and pathos that he does better than just about anyone?

Still, I need to think about this, process it for a while, because I'm clearly not being coherent.

Anyone out there with thoughts?

But I had been suspecting something like that. Though I thought it was going to be NPH's character and not Felicia's. AND NOOO. Joss lost his soul when he made Buffy send Angel back to hell herself. He is a souless awesome human being that is going to be haunted by our fangirl screams even into the grave.

I'm going to watch the rest and return to express all my woe over the now confirmed upcoming fates of our Ms. Penny.

Yeah, I totally appreciate it all now--I think, now that I've watched it all the way through again, that the whole thing really works, and the ending is totally hinted at, and I really love it. But killing Felicia Day is still a mark of soulessness.

And I agree about NPH. I lurve him.

Also, yes to soundtrack. Want it now. I've been walking around the house singing the songs in my head pretty much nonstop since I started watching. It's kind of ridiculous.

Yes, Nathan was hilarious. Absolutely. Especially in that totally ridiculous songs. "The deltoids of compassion"--are you kidding me? Brilliant!

And yeah, in retrospect the whole show was awesome, but I'm still majorly shocked about Penny. Even though I shouldn't be.

It was. I've never seen anything by Whedon at all, I've just read his blog and Equality Now! speech and loved them, but like. Oh, my god.

But that's so cool that this is your first real Joss experience! I mean, the Equality Now speech is the height of win, but his shows are amazing.

I just watched Dr. Horrible (downloaded on iTunes), and OMG. D: D: D:

I was ready to cry. I freaking LOVED it and aghhhh, the sadness at the end, and OMG Nathan playing a super-hero and aww Dr. Horrible and AGH, Joss. AGH.

Do you know what the deal with this, by the way? Is this a stand-alone project, or are they going anywhere with it?

I'm so glad you liked it! Wasn't it awesome? My reaction was pretty much your reaction.

As to there being more, I know Joss would like to do more. The question would be when he could get everybody back together and make it happen--he's got Dollhouse coming up, of course, and Nathan's got a new show, I believe, and NPH is still on How I Met Your Mother. Plus, though I think it took something like 6 days to film, it does take a while to write. So it might be a while before we see another. Also, I know there's been a companion comic book, and there will probably be more of those. And the DVD and soundtrack will be out pretty soon and definitely before Christmas. So we'll just have to see.

Sorry if that wasn't helpful at all. Short answer: no real answer yet.
