because this is what i do at work when i'm bored
So lj’s been a little slow lately, and I haven’t been helping. But I just haven’t had much to say! Really! However, I feel a little guilty because for some reason I’ve got it into my head that part of my job in life is to ~entertain~ y’all. So let’s do one of those random poll things again, okay?
[Poll #1768335]

Also there should really be multiple ticky boxes for the pie question. There are not enough ways to choose pie.
Am now just a little bit in love with you for including Patty Griffin in your list of lyrics masters.
no subject
You are so right about the pie question; I dropped the ball on that one.
I love her soooo! And I was thinking about "Florida" and "time wants to kiss you deep, be on his way" and how can you NOT love her lyrics?

Also, Spike will always be favorite boy, but I've kind of decided I want Ben Wyatt to be a real person so I can marry him.
no subject
Emma is the most delightful person alive. Except for all the other people in the HP movies, who are also the most delightful people alive. I do not understand how so many delightful people are involved in one project!
I would marry Ben Wyatt, too. No questions. Ideal man. Have an icon.

And I didn't know Sherman Alexie wrote poetry. I thought he was a novelist/short story writer.
Also, I have yet to see Miranda, but I already know she's my favorite, and I have yet to see season 2 of TWW, but I already know I want Ainsley Hayes running for president. With Sam as her First Man.
no subject
Mr. Alexie writes everything. Novels, short stories, poetry, screenplays. He won a slam poetry contest so many times in a row THAT THEY STOPPED HAVING IT. That's how awesome he is. One of my favorite people.
MIRANDA MIRANDA MIRANDA. YOU WILL LOVE HER. AND AINSLEY. AND SAM AS FIRST MAN YES YES YES!

ANASTASIA!
Whatever man, cake rules.
i am saddened by the lack of e.e. cummings in this poll. saddened i tell you. But I did just re-check the question and it did say favourite of your favourites so. Go Dorothy Park and your witty self!
no subject
I cannot blame you for your Ben/Leslie love. I do not understand how a pairing can be so delightful. DELIGHTFUL.
GRANDMA. IT'S ME. ANASTASIA. Favorite part!
Whatever, cake sucks. SUCKS!
I do like cummings! Quite a bit! Just not enough to be my favorites ever poll. Ms. Parker is an excellent choice, though. :D

FAVORITE KISS (actually)
FAVORITE BOY
which show that isn't on right now are you most excited about coming back?
WHY TORTURE ME WHYYYYY
I must've changed my answer a billion times between Borgias, GoT, and Parks & Rec. They all give me something different, yet still so utterly amazing and I REFUSE TO PLAY ~LAUREN'S CHOICE~ WITH YOU. NO.
(Except I've already ticked a box and I can't ~untick so my answer is Borgias because that's the show I most recently was craving due to tumblr's feeding my addiction.)
OH JEEZ all the rest of your questions are ridiculously hard, too. Favorite hair? They're all beautiful in different ways. I love how ridiculously perfect Nina's hair always looks, and how wild and goddess-like Alex's always looks. So I'm torn between those two.
AINSLEY HAYES FOR PRESIDENT YES YES YES
As for favorite poets, I chose rainer marie rilke because she ~speaks~ to me, it literally feels like she's speaking to me. I just ~get~ it.
[eta] game of thrones! you either win or you're a stark!
*SPORFLE*
i'm so stealing this as a new tag lolololololol :D

The "Intervention" kiss is perfect beyond perfect. Basically all their kisses are in different ways, and I'm most in love with whichever one I'm watching at the moment. I was feeling the FOREHEAD TOUCHING today because: so beautiful.
I LIKE TO TORTURE YOU. IT'S FUN.
I thought you might pick Borgias! HOW PERFECT IS IT?
I cannot claim credit for your new Stark tag. I stole it from someone's tag on tumblr, obvs. But isn't it great?

In other news, THAT would be an awesome duo. I also realized the other day that Han Solo and Kara Thrace should absolutely have hooked up. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away? Are you kidding me? It's canon.
I didn't know any of the personifications of death :/

~My favorite British funny person will always be Eddie Izzard.
~I was so attached to a lot of your childhood movies as books. I felt disloyal not picking Anne or Little Women. But I don't actually remember the movies all that well.
And I still have not watched Star Wars, my Geek Cred is gone!no subject
Oh, I looooove those books, too. But the movies were huge for me as well.
I won't tell you to watch Star Wars, because I am certain that multiple people in your life have already told you to and I don't want to be annoying.
But you should watch it.no subject
(also, RH is apparently going back in the Disney vault. I just grabbed a copy off Amazon before they all vanish. D:)

I just love that you've actually seen Roan Inish. Nobody has, and it's perfect.
(Man...I should probably buy that, even if I resent the way Disney manipulates people with that vault thing. *sigh*)

favorite personification of death? (okay, this is esoteric, but it's one of my faves)
And then this:
which of these random british/irish funny people is your favorite?
All of which adds up to "You need to get yourself some Terry Pratchett, STAT." Start with a couple of the later Ankh-Morpork books to get yourself oriented - say, "The Truth" and then "Going Postal" - and then you can go read about Death, WHO ALWAYS SPEAKS LIKE THIS AND TRIES TO HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR, ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES THAT DOESN'T WORK. ALSO HE LIKES KITTENS.
(That said, Death from the Sandman books is not a bad second choice. See? As maybe evidenced by the picture, she's actually really nice.)
Also, what happened to "Dean will always be one of my boys"? *wibble* (Not that I would have chosen him over Spike. Probably.)
no subject
Awww! I do love me some Dean! *huggles him*

And Nina Dobrev has the most fabulous hair.
no subject
I am definitely jealous of Nina's hair. *wistful sigh*

Reaaaaaaaaaaaaad Sandmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.
NO THANKS FOR ABETTING HOW HORRIBLY I MISS THE BORGIAS. Also, I'm having such an adoration renaissance for Tony these days. I want to watch gen one again, except not really. I just want to rewatch him being perfect and my favourite boy. (Someday, I really want Nick and Freya to be in the same film, for reasons of feline facial structure and the things they do with it. Plus: Skins kids who deserve allthecareers.)
no subject
(Also, clearly the answer to my runners-up is to have Whishywashy and Freya be part of the same spy team? Can it be in the Cold War, because Freya in my period makes my soul tingle and can we imagine her in tailored sixties suits and lipstick? ALL THE HURRAH IN THE WORLD.)
This sounds like the best idea in the world!
I have been meaning to get to Sandman forever, but my lack of ability to emotionally invest in comics has gotten in the way. But it will happen! At some point!
Someday, I really want Nick and Freya to be in the same film, for reasons of feline facial structure and the things they do with it. Plus: Skins kids who deserve allthecareers
YES. So, so, so talented. It's almost ridiculous.

1) Toss up between Tabula Rasa and VMars--TR is a BETTER kiss--but VMars is a more important kiss for them. And it's kinda feel-good, while TR is sad. So, I said VMars.
2) Oh di lallie, mofos.
3) No idea who most of these people are--but the freedom-fighting sci fi sisters thing sounds right up my alley.
4) Obvs. Spike. or Spiiiiike. But Ron and Troy both were tempting.
5) Those girls all have stupid hair.
6) Your pie enthusiasm amuses me. But cake looks like it's winning because pie's vote is split! Oh noes.
7) Sound and Fury girl--that's one of 2 of my favorite passages in that book. How he presses the coin into her hand--and her fingers are like worms or earth or something? My other favorite passage is the part where Quinten makes Caddy say "Dalton Ames" and he puts his hand over her neck and describes her pulse speeding up when she says it. Guh. I fucking LOVE that part. That may be my favorite scene in all of literature.
8) AHAHA--I do know Townes Van Zandt. (I've got Austin cred goin' way back, yo--he's a big deal here, largely because of his association with Willie Nelson, but also his association with the old version of Austin City Limits)--but I still said Paul Simon. He owns me. Sorry.
BUT DOLLYYYYYY! She is so underrated. Good call. Jolene, I argue, is one of the most perfect songs ever written.
9) I should've said David Mitchell, because he has no votes. Alas.
11) Rilke. I love Rilke. Hahaha. And I should say Yeats, I guess, because I've studied him A LOT more. But... Gah. Rilke is so much better for my soul.
no subject
This is true.
But Ron and Troy both were tempting
You clearly have good taste in people.
My other favorite passage is the part where Quinten makes Caddy say "Dalton Ames" and he puts his hand over her neck and describes her pulse speeding up when she says it. Guh. I fucking LOVE that part. That may be my favorite scene in all of literature.
YES! And there's the knife! OMG SO GOOOOD. FAULKNER THE THINGS YOU DO TO ME.
Yeah, Townes is very much an Austin kind of guy. And no apologies for choosing Paul Simon! He was the first music I ever loved. My daddy would play "Me and Julio" and I would dance, and this was before I could walk, so I would fall over. It was pretty adorable, supposedly. I still think "Graceland" is one of the greatest albums of all time. Appropriative, but great.
Dolly is one of my favorite human beings period.
I am SO SAD for David Mitchell! He is such a ray of sunshine! I adore him so! Especially when people are trying to convince him and Charlie Brooker to dance, and they're like HELL NO.
Rilke is definitely soul-food.
We were drinking like the Irish, but we were drinking Scotch
I did look for Eddie Izzard in the funny Brits section because he is my very favorite ever. If you've not heard of him I'd definitely recommend finding yourself a DVD of his stand up. Dressed to Kill is the all-time classic I believe.
I had so much trouble with the hair question! Curls! Pixie! More Curls! What to do?!?!

I feel really sad Charlie Brooker has no votes though. I LOVE HIM it's just I love David Mitchell more. And Miranda, tbh.

game of thrones! you either win or you're a stark!
HAHAHAHA. SAY THAT IN A CHIPPER VOICE!
I went with Nina D's chocolate. I mean, hair. But OMG I CANNOT CHOOSE BETWEEN 'THE BOOK THIEF' AND THE 'DLM' GANG. NOOOOOOOOOO. NOOOOOOOOO.
LOLOLOL JOE BLACK. LOL.
LOL.

I voted for Anne of Green Gables, but I really meant the book. I think I've only seen the movie once. (It was very good.) Oh, and I saw the musical production of it when I visited PEI! Pretty awesome.
I went with Jesse Eisenberg and Anton Yelchin, but Kat Graham and Lenora were a close second. I should note that Anton does not always play neurotic people, but. ...well, I guess Charlie Bartlett was neurotic too. We could add in Andy Samberg as the older brother that's actually kind of cool and lectures them on being action heroes. Best Jewish bros!
I voted for TVD even with my ISSUES, because the Borgias do not return until the spring. Also I'm excited to have Malese Jow back on my screen.
Pie is better for a wider variety of occasions. Cake mostly feels fancy. Except for carrot cake. And coffee cake. And pineapple upside down cake. ...man, now I want cake and pie.
I'm going to have to revoke your nerd cred for not having read Sandman yet.
I voted for Dolly because her interviews are always entertaining.
I love the fanged four (Darla is my favourite vampire ever), but as a series, the balance of horribleness to non might be too much. Soooo, Lexi and Stefan. (Which would be way better than the Klaus and Stefan thing coming up.)

That was pretty much the only question that didn't involve a Sophie's Choice situation, although you totally made me realize that as obsessed as I am with GoT right now, I'm not still not obsessed enough to vote against Pawnee.

This living hand, now warm and capable
Of earnest grasping, would, if it were cold
And in the icy silence of the tomb,
So haunt thy days and chill thy dreaming nights
That thou wouldst wish thine own heart dry of blood
So in my veins red life might stream again,
And thou be conscience-calmed - see here it is -
I hold it towards you.

personifications of death! that was one of my first lj interests and i clicked it to see who else listed it as one of theirs and YOU WHERE THERE and i was ever so pleased. have you read any terry pratchett? his death is pretty fantastic in discworld and good omens.
incidentally the poet question was also unfair! but i just reread "the sad child" so, margaret atwood.
...and now i want pie.
