lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([btvs] not happy)

Annoyance of the day:

People who flat-out say that Buffy didn't love Spike despite the fact that she said she did.

She said she did. The only reason we have to believe that she didn't is one thing Spike said, and since when do people believe anything that comes out of Spike's mouth? Boy can speak the truth that no one else will, but he also says a ton of b.s., and everyone knows it.

I just hatehatehatehatehatehate all of these people sitting around telling a woman (and it would be a woman--if a man said, it I think a lot less people would disagree with her) who finds it nearly impossible to say the words "I love you" even to people she regards as family (remember "Intervention"? That's canon) that she doesn't love someone when she said she did.

I don't have a problem with people quibbling over the nature of her love. You can argue that she didn't love him romantically or as much as she did Angel or whatever (I would disagree with the first one and re: the second, I would remind you that, as [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna says, we don't love in amounts. We love in ways). That's legit. But to say, flat-out, that she didn't love him even though she says she did takes agency away from Buffy in a way that I am entirely uncomfortable with and that DRIVES ME CRAZY, OKAY. If she had said she loved Riley (she didn't, did she?), I would be pissed at people saying she didn't love him, either. Uuuugh why does this annoy me so much?

HAI CREZIA HAI. SO PLEASE BE RECOGNIZING THAT I WROTE AN ESSAY ON BUFFY'S THREE MAIN LOVES W/IN THE LJ COMMENT WORD COUNT. BOOYAH BITCHES. BLAMMO!

:D

I totally understand. For me, Buffy-headspace is always present, but I am weird and I've had a long time to think about this stuff so it's like reciting the catechism (which, irony, I don't know so...).

Also, I'm getting very, very excited about the Borgias because of you. Your flail has been felt, recognized and shall be reciprocated. When does the series start? I need to go research so I can join in on the flail. Also, I adored that picture of you and all your Borgia books.

Dear god, is there anything more wonderful than carrying more books than your arms can hold, but still managing to miraculously balance them as you steal away from the library? I THINK NOT.

Thank you for the game face. Merci beaucoup!

[eta] Do you need a Yuletide cheerleader? I'm available!

*applause*

Heh, yeah, I am the exact same way—with this family; FLAILING FOREVER SINCE I WAS SIX, NEVER OUT OF THIS BRAINSPACE, WILL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT IT AND YEAH YOU'RE EXCITED! ♥ O glory. Borgiavangelism life at its finest—the show starts in either late March or early April. WHY WON'T THEY TELL MEEEE. (Erm, but I think perhaps there shall be more clarity in January, wherein they are releasing a 15-30 minute trailer, which will be my birthday present bar none and which will KILL ME DEAD, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOOOOW.)

Heeeee, and I am the queen of that moment. "Do you need a bag?" the librarians ask me, and I'm always like "NOPE, I GOT THIS."

(haha thank you but I am Yuletide queen when I can be, I've got almost 800 words, I just need moar panic/less finals; right now the only thing I am capable of doing is language review and Renaissance porn. whoops.)
