Thank you for your time, votes, and patience with my flailing. I now return you to your regularly scheduled life.

Now what am I going to do?

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW LIFE IS BORING NOW.

Also! I think I have a few minutes to check my email....

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
yay! do you want me to send you a slightly updated version?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You can. I'm currently reading the one you sent me, and I'm really excited to see what you explore as far as the weaknesses of the show's attempts at feminism. Because Joss can majorly fail there--though he does it way, way more often on AtS than on BtVS--and I'm always interested in that..

[identity profile] petzipellepingo.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Now what am I going to do?

Worry about Season Eight of course...

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
NO! *g*

Actually, I have [livejournal.com profile] moscow_watcher's post about her letter from Allie open in another tab, but I haven't looked at it yet...so I'm worried already....

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! *claps along with the Scoobies* You know, I didn't recognize that first vidclip, and I thought for a second Buffy was supposed to be just rolling around by herself like a cat on catnip. I didn't remember that from the show at all!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay!

Buffy was supposed to be just rolling around by herself like a cat on catnip Hahaha! That's a hilarious mental picture!

I rarely rewatch the earlier seasons, but I assume this is the episode where Willow tells Buffy she's going to UC Sunnydale instead of out of state. But that's just a guess.

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe that's it, yeah.

It occurs to me that being tackled by a Slayer could be dangerous. Buffy must have a lot of self-restraint. ;)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
True, true! I always wondered why we don't see more moments like the one where Buffy breaks the soft serve ice cream machine in S4...or slays the football.....

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, fanfic authors always bring up the crushed vibrators. ;)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! I guess I have read a few of those. That's hysterical.

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I've ever written anything like that myself. Though it might work if I ever get around to work up the courage to expand "Watch Your Language", in which Spike accidentally tells a vengeance demon he "wishes sometimes Buffy's gang weren't such wankers".

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Stop making me laugh! I'm at work!

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oops! Sorry. It's not something I have to worry about, since I have to do manual labor. (I leave for work in about half an hour.) No internet usage there.

Watch Your Language (http://mabus101.livejournal.com/159926.html), for some time when you have time. Short and funny...or so I'm told, anyway.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no need to be sorry. That was an affectionate kind of "stop!", not a genuine one.

Thanks for the link! I'll check it out sometime...when I'm not at work. ;)

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I figured it was, and was responding in kind. ;)

I like writing funny stories, but somehow the long ones always turn dark.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay, good! I've said a few things recently that have been misunderstood--to my horror--so I'm trying to be on the safe side.

I love writing angsty stuff, and I never thought I'd be good at funny. But I've written some within the past several months and really enjoyed it; it really is fun, isn't it?

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean about being misunderstood. ;)

It sure is fun...but I have a fairly long list of my fic and I look down it and it's 90% darkfic. (Though I haven't listed all the drabbles and such, and there are some other bits I haven't got around to yet.) Part of it seems to be the compulsion to treat everything seriously. I start writing a bodyswap fic and next thing you know, I'm making sure Willow is making sure everyone pays attention to boundaries of consent. (Anya: I can't help it if I'm stuck in Dawn's body! I'm still over a thousand! Buffy: Suck it up!)

I made the first poll but missed the ones in between. But I was just in time for the last one. :D
Reading through all the pics and videos can be very distracting but it was fun. :D

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love the pics and videos! My favorite part!

And yay for managing to get to vote!

[identity profile] slaymesoftly.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Woot!!!!! A job well done. :)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I am surprised and pleased. I honestly didn't think fandom had it in us. But we did!

[identity profile] madcap-shiny.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
WHOA WHOA WHOA.

I DIDN'T KNOW FANDOM COULD STILL BE THIS COOL. I WAS GETTING PRETTY CYNICAL FOR AWHILE THERE.

[identity profile] ohwaluvusbab.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Massive love for that Scooby gif.

Girl, it was in the *bag*.

What about dancing Angel? What does dancing!Angel feel?!!!

Go Buffy!

[identity profile] sarahlovesa.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
I am new to Live Journaling so had never heard of the Steel Cage voting thing and then, lo and behold, Buffy wins it - on my first time voting! Hurrah! I must have good karma at the moment or something. (Of course, being Spike obsessed, I would want him to win everything - including Miss Universe, all the Oscar categories and perhaps the speed skating Olympic gold medal - you know, anything so that I could see him accepting it in a tuxedo, or a tight lycra suit or even a sequined gown. Wouldn't matter really, such is the depth of my obsession)

But failing that, who better than B herself!

By the way, Penny_Lane-42, I blame you for getting me into this, when I should be working. I only joined the LJ community after I read your story 'Kaleidoscope' (BEST fanfiction story EVER (But then her hand (such a small hand, to sculpt death and life with equal dexterity, to have been covered with blood and ash) reaches out, oh, so tentatively, and rests against an expanse of black cotton-covered chest' - that sentence just kills me and the whole story is just as if you got into my head and travelled around my own version of the BTVS universe) I followed the link to your page and 'voila' another reason not to mark Grade 6 essays! (THANK YOU!)

Re: Go Buffy!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-14 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Spike made it pretty far last year, actually. I think he knocked out Veronica Mars, actually, and I didn't vote that round because I didn't feel like I could choose between them.

you know, anything so that I could see him accepting it in a tuxedo, Um, Spike + Tuxedo = ME BEING DEAD. OF HOTNESS.

Wow. That is possibly the biggest compliment I've ever been given. It's blown me away. Thank you.

Did you find "Kaleidoscope" on ff.net or somewhere else? Just curious!

I hope you continue to enjoy your time on lj! It's a fantastic place, even now when it looks like we're about to have some flamewars tear our little corner of fandom apart. *sigh*

Again, thank you so much!

Thank you for replying - it is the start of the working week for me so to find that on my computer is a great treat! I am about to go to an assembly of nearly 400 teenagers who have to listen to the Vice Principal droning on about recyling for the 1000th time and it is my job to keep them quiet. So I needed something nice to keep me going!

I found your story on fanfiction.net. (By the way, it is REALLY fascinating the million ways people can interpret or play around with the same characters. It is a great look into some very interesting, not to say, weird, minds!) I think your stories are the best and I hope that you write a book some day as you really have a gift. Perhaps you already have and I can buy it! And I say that as an English teacher who is an obsessive reader.
