lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([btvs] what would buffy do?)
lirazel ([personal profile] lirazel) wrote2010-03-10 12:40 pm

Grabbing a few seconds to say it first...

Because I don't believe in jinxing:

Y'all, unless The Big Bang Theory fandom is way, way more massive than I think it is, Buffy is totally going to win Fandom Steel Cage Match this year! SHE REALLY, REALLY IS!

Watch her being all cute and modest!

She just kills me with her adorableness!

I must say, though, that I'm really depressed that Scully couldn't somehow make it to the final round...and that I have the pilot of The X-Files downloaded and waiting for me when I get home tonight!

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I JUST THINK THAT WE SHOULD KICK EVERYONE OUT AND SCULLY V. BUFFY SHOULD BE THE ONLY ROUND THAT MATTERS.

i am also v. sad the scully campaigning has stopped. that shit was AWESOME AND I LOVED IT AND NEXT YEAR I WILL RETURN WITH MORE GIFS. i kind of want to be friends with everyone on team scully.

brb making a comment about that. I DON'T CARE THAT SCULLY IS GONE, I CANNOT LET GO.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I TOTALLY AGREE. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME.

Hey, once I finish watching the show and I'm totally in Scully-love (cause I know that's going to happen), I'm returning to those threads and checking out all the campaigning. I look forward to it.

DON'T LET GO. IT'S COOL!

[identity profile] anythingbutgrey.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
ARE YOU WATCHING IT NOW? IS THIS NEW? YOU WILL AGREE WITH ALL CAMPAIGNING. DANA SCULLY IS LITERALLY THE FIERCEST BITCH OF ALL BITCHNESS, AND WAS PROBABLY MORE OF A MAN THAN MULDER EVER WAS LOL.

I AM ATTACHED. ALL THESE DUMB BITTIES ARE LIKE 'I WAS TEAM SCULLY UNTIL SHE WENT UP AGAINST BUFFY DO I COUNT?' AND I'M LIKE 'NO' only i told them yes but really NO.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I DOWNLOADED IT LAST NIGHT. IT TOOK LIKE THREE HOURS BECAUSE THE LINK IS FROM 2007. I WILL WATCH IT TONIGHT.

only i told them yes but really NO.

You crack me up so much!

But I have to warn you: I doubt she'll supplant Buffy in my affections. She can be thisclose, though!

[identity profile] madcap-shiny.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
UGH BUFFY VS. VERONICA WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT TO MEEEEEEEEEE

Okay, okay. I'm going to vote for Veronica on a purely statistical decision, since I'm pretty sure Buffy will win.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
ISN'T IT AWFUL????

I approve of this plan. Veronica needs love, too!

[identity profile] mollivanders.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't even be sad about everyone we've lost since we started - I am so okay with this :)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been so, so strange, because I do get sad for a few moments about who we've lost...and then I look at the current round, it's still AWESOME, and I get happy!

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Go Buffy! She is the Queen of Adorable!

(Oh and I just sent you a kinda urgent email if you're around. Eee! *tries to not freak out*)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
SHE IS!

Oh, I'm so happy for our girl! *squee*

I haven't been paying attention to this cage match thingy at all, but damn, Buffy is adorable. *ded from teh cute*

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been loads of fun, honestly, what with all the campaigning .gifs and posting of Buffy speeches and such. I have enjoyed myself heartily.

*ded from teh cute*
I can't think of a better way to go!

YAYYYYYYYYYY!
I may miss Scully in the battle, but I need my Buffy to wiiiiin.

Wooooord.

[identity profile] brunettepet.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Those avis make me want Buffy to be my girlfriend, too! She's just too cute! I love her.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I'm straight as anything, but Buffy's my girl! I totally understand why Spike (and Angel. And Riley. And Satsu. And possibly Xander and Faith) fell so hard for her!

[identity profile] brunettepet.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Right there with you on the straight front, but our girl inspires love!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
She does indeed! *huggles her*

[identity profile] mabus101.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Argh, you've gone and jinxed us with your non-believiness! :P

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought that my preemptive jinxing mention would head off jinxes at the pass. FOILED AGAIN! ;)

Wow, I wasn't even expecting Buffy to make it this far. *keeps voting*

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly can't imagine that anyone's bracket is going to be accurate. I don't think anyone saw it playing out the way it did.

[identity profile] gabrielleabelle.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, before I watched the show, I always heard about the awesomeness of Willow or Xander or Spike or Angel or anybody but Buffy. I'm so so happy to see her getting props now!!!

*loves on Buffy in a totally gay way*

[identity profile] gabrielleabelle.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I have to share something that's been making me flail-y today since I know you'll flail with me:

Disney restyles 'Rapunzel' to appeal to boys

GIRLS ARE ICKY AND TAINT OUR PROFIT MARGINS!!!!

*flails*

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
There are very, very few things I hate more than the idea that girls are supposed to be able to relate to boys' stories but boys aren't supposed to be able to relate to girls' stories. It makes me BURN WITH WHITE HOT INCANDESCENT FEMINIST RAGE.

Pixar's forthcoming "The Bear and the Bow," directed by Pixar's first female director, Brenda Chapman, and starring Reese Witherspoon.

That sounds promising, though! Pixar! With a female lead! I'm excited! Though if it doesn't do well, you know that they'll blame that on the female director.

ARGH! PATRIARCHY!

[identity profile] gabrielleabelle.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
NPR had an interesting article in response to it.

I just want to beat my head against a wall. As soon as one movie about a girl fails, Disney's all up in arms about boys not wanting to watch it! Oh noes! Never mind the MASSIVE POPULARITY of the Disney Princesses (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, etc). No, Disney, I think there were other problems with The Princess and the Frog (namely, sucky marketing and probably just a bit of unconscious racism on the audience's part).

Seriously, they create their own problem. They assume boys won't be interested in stories about girls (icky!) so they pander to them with male heroes. So the boys are socialized into rigid gender roles and become used to seeing male heroes and are uninterested in seeing female heroes. Thus we get the adult movie audience that apparently will not watch a female protagonist (unless her name is "Riply").

Then that audience zooms around and makes the exact same assumptions and starts the process all over.

It's all very stupid.

And insulting.

And damned frustrating (cause you know I want to see more awesome roles for women in movies and TV).

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
That's a fantastic article. Thanks for it.

(namely, sucky marketing and probably just a bit of unconscious racism on the audience's part).
Agreed. It was a charming movie. Not as great as some of the other Disney films, but very likable.

As for the rest of your comment: OH YES YES YES. You're so right. SO RIGHT.

I feel like I need an icon that says something about my feminist fury.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I know! I've been so pleasantly surprised at how many people seem to really, really love her. It's not something I see very often (unless Emmie and I are flailing over her), but it makes me so happy!

[identity profile] that-september.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Be very afraid of The Big Bang Theory fandom. The people over at Paradox (the Sheldon/Penny community) are crawling out of the woodwork. I have no idea what I'll do if I have to choose between Buffy and Sheldon (which I probably will)...but I'll probably go with Buffy (and won't say a word to my fellow Paradoxers, lol).

Eeeeeh, so exciting! :D :D

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, really? I'm taking comfort from the fact that no other character has had as many people vote for him/her as Buffy has...but this makes me worried!

But Buffy and I appreciate your vote!

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully we'll get back the folks who voted for Veronica. 'Cause if you love one, I assume you love both and are torn. :D

And those voting for Bones would hopefully vote for Buffy. *fingers crossed*

ALSO FLAIL OVER BUFFY CUZ WE LOVE HER.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I assume this same thing!

I think she's got a very, very real chance of winning!

YAY FOR BUFFY FLAIL!

[identity profile] beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com 2010-03-10 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwww. Love these.

(That's Parker she's adorabling at in the second one, isn't it? ;-) )

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm not entirely positive, but I think you're right. If so, it proves he really is completely heartless: how could you mistreat a girl who's that adorable?

[identity profile] crackers4jenn.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
My dream winner would've been Pacey Witter, but that's not just dream-winning, it's delusional-winning. But I'm happy Buffy might take the whole thing! God knows she deserves a lot of love and praise.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I picked up on your Pacey-love on your journal, but didn't join in because I've never actually seen Dawson's Creek (that didn't stop me from laughing hysterically at Spike's "Pacey, you blind fool! Can't you see she'll never love you!" line).

But I'm happy Buffy might take the whole thing! God knows she deserves a lot of love and praise. Yes, yes!

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
(that didn't stop me from laughing hysterically at Spike's "Pacey, you blind fool! Can't you see she'll never love you!" line)

Can I spoil you because it'll make the Spike/Buffy love story better?

...

...

...

...

...

...

Joey totally picks Pacey in the end. Spike was WRONG. Which just goes to show that Buffy will end up with Spike because BtVS is totally based on Dawson's Creek, don't you know? :P

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes! I knew that! And I love it! And isn't there a scene in one of [livejournal.com profile] anaross's stories where Spike and Dawn watch it and they make much of that fact?

[identity profile] sarahlovesa.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I love you! I never thought of that before. I always knew Joey should pick Pacey and the fact that she ended up with him was a victory for reformed bad boys everywhere (who make you sigh in the way that the goody-two shoes don't, unfair as that is). So yes, that does give me hope that somewhere, sometime, somehow, Buffy and Spike will get their happy ending, in the Buffyverse, not just in my getting myself to sleep fantasies at night. (Of course, a nasty little voice keeps whispering 'Hah! Joss will never allow it' but I just ignore that and rewatch the scenes where Buffy is actually nice to Spike - 'I'm not ready for you to not be here', for example!) So thanks for giving me hope!

[identity profile] angearia.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! I'm all about spreading the Spuffy love. *shamelessly self-pimps* This might give you a Spuffy happy. And I post about Spuffy all the time on my journal. :D

GO TEAM BUFFY!

Awww, I'm so happy she's making it into the final round. It's good to see Buffy getting some love from the fandom.

I hope you enjoy the XF pilot! It's from 1993 and parts of it look so dated now, like Scully's awful suits and in later episodes, the cellphones that look like they are as big as the actors heads. But I think the story still works mostly, and baby-faced Scully and Mulder are the most adorable things ever.

[identity profile] serendipily.livejournal.com 2010-03-12 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
O.O S-scully didn't make it?

... Oh my god. Not all the Buffy adorableness in the world could fix this sense of betrayyl.
