Uh-oh

Y'all, I am growing increasingly alarmed.

Way back in the day when Joss first announced he was doing a new show, I started a countdown to Jonathan M. Woodward's appearance. I love that guy. Holden, Knox, Tracey, his part in Wit--LOVE. HIM.

And Joss does, too, clearly. (He also loves killing him off, but that's a whole 'nother issue.) So I just assumed that of course he would be on Dollhouse.

BUT WE HAVE TWO EPISODES LEFT AND HE HAS YET TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE AND WHAT IF HE DOOOOESN'T.

I will be crushed.

Joss Whedon, you disappoint me.

Ha! Serves you well for dissing my beloved Spock!
:)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love Spock. Nimoy Spock. I just think that Sylar!Spock's characterization is so far off from what I remember of TOS that it's more distracting than anything.

But hey! YMMV.

[identity profile] riccadonna.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I was just kidding, right?
And by the way, your icon reminded me of that wonderful speech, and how Whedon is not like other TV people; I'll have to go watch the video again.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. I just wanted to establish my Nimoy!Spock love. Because it is intense.

I watch it often. It makes me happy!

...is it bad that I shipped Tracey/Kaylee more than Simon/Kaylee when he was onscreen? And felt sadder at his death's than at Book's? D:

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
NO! I totally understand!

I've been won over by [livejournal.com profile] likeserendipity's argument that both Simon and Kaylee deserve better in the long run. That the only reason they're together is that, like Kaylee says, she's literally the only girl in the world for him and who's she gonna be with? Jayne?

Unlike Wash/Zoe who absolutely love each other completely and Mal/Inara who would probably have their love-hate thing going on under any circumstances, Simon/Kaylee, as cute as they might be for the moment, don't seem all that lasting to me.

Whew, I thought I was the only one who felt that way regarding Simon/Kaylee! Yeah, they had these really adorable moments but…I was also put off by the whole oversensitive- woman/clueless-man issue that kept getting in the way.

I'd be interested in seeing that meta! I always had a feeling that if Firefly had continued running? They’d have run their course but then broken up in the end.

(Or got together, broke up, got back together, broke up, and then one of them is brutally killed just as they’re about to get back together. Because, Joss. )

Wash/Zoe: OTPOTPOTP
…we’ll never have hardass-witty Washburne babies! *weeps*

Mal/Inara: I think their bickering was really destructive at times, but all the hints of their stronger feelingss—there was so much potential. It could’ve gone everywhere.

…I just realized that in some alternate universe where Firefly wasn’t cancelled, we’re in the last episodes before the series finale. : (

[identity profile] rebcake.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Kaylee was the opposite of over-sensitive. She was easy-peasy (tempermentally). The very definition of low maintenance. She did her own maintenance! But he was such a clueless boob, even she had to notice...

[identity profile] redsilverchains.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I guess I should’ve said ‘exasperated’ instead of ‘oversensitive’.
Yeah, Simon was head-smackingly clueless sometimes. Though he’s ‘puppy-learning-to-walk’ clueless, rather than ‘insensitive-troll’ clueless, so I forgive him mostly :p

I really do think they’re sweet. I only wonder how long they could last.

And icon love!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-18 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know; I definitely remember a few moments where I sat there and thought, "Seriously, Kaylee? You like the guy, and he's trying hard, and you know that's not what he meant. So either decide his cluelessness is a deal breaker and get over the crush, or give him the benefit of the doubt."

But that could just be me.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-18 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Well, it wasn't meta, it was just [livejournal.com profile] likeserendipity rambling one day that made me think, "Huh. I think she's right."

I always had a feeling that if Firefly had continued running? They’d have run their course but then broken up in the end. Absolutely!

…we’ll never have hardass-witty Washburne babies! *weeps* Sometimes I like to pretend that Zoe was pregnant (with twins!) when Wash died. But I'm not sure she'd want to have kids without him being there, so I'm not sure about it.

I think their bickering was really destructive at times, but all the hints of their stronger feelingss—there was so much potential. It could’ve gone everywhere. Exactly why I like it. There's so much going on, and sometimes it's very ugly, and you can never be sure it actually would have worked, but it would have been cool to see them try.

…I just realized that in some alternate universe where Firefly wasn’t cancelled, we’re in the last episodes before the series finale. : ( Really? I didn't know! How many seasons would that have been?
ext_407741: (Default)

[identity profile] redsilverchains.livejournal.com 2010-01-18 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It would've run seven seasons, I read. Have you seen this? Reminds me of that "fanfic you never wrote" meme.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-18 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! That was way too much fun! Thank you so much for sharing!

You’re too welcome! Win like that deserves to be shared :D

(…Now I think I’ll go rewatch that season 3 episode when the whole crew start a betting pool on when Mal and Inara would hook up, and that hilarious scene with Jayne and Simon both getting cranky at River for winning, ‘cos they considered her abilities to be cheating…)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no matter what anyone says about "Dawn's Early Light" (and don't get me wrong, the scene where Simon gets his pompous-ness on and convinces that guy not to kill Jayne is awesome), I think the betting moment was the real moment when Simon and Jayne's relationship took a turn for the better. Psychic little sisters: the great unifier.

How about that episode where Neil Patrick Harris guest-starred and was creepy as hell? After finishing it, I had to watch some HIMYM just to bleach my brain! (Though the Dr Horrible shoutouts were quite funny.)

Back to Simon-Jayne bonding: you gotta love their decision over what to name Wash and Zoe’s kid…Wash being all magnanimous and saying they could pick a name because “nothing’s worse than Hoban”,and then changing his mind a split second later…

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He was totally my second favorite guest star ever! (I mean, who knew that juggling geese was actually that scary?) But I gotta say that my favorite was Rose Byrne as that badass senator lady. Who knew? And the flirtation between her and Simon totally made my life. OTP WHAT.

Yes! I loved that episode! Especially when it got all heartwarming with them letting Book name the baby. In retrospect, with him dying in S4 like that, it means so much more, too. I love that his last words were about little Noah.

She was made of fierce in that role! I’d only ever seen her play passive characters before so it was beyond cool to see her kick ass and take names (and classily flirt with the cute doctor in between)!

Brrrr…when Neil was prancing around and singing that you-hit-me-with-a-hammer-I’ll kill-you-with-a-nail rhyme, I didn’t know whether to be horrified or be amused at the Dr. Horrible reference.

*wibble* I’m kind of in love with your Book storyline. I love that he goes out thinking about a child instead of spouting some faith whatsis (which seemed to be his only role during the movie. Eh.).

….Hee, but you know, between all this and that article you posted, I’m starting to wonder what Joss would’ve done with the multi-cultural issue, if the show had continued to run. Because…well, I really don’t want to think he set out meaning to have racist implications.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-20 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
She was awesome, and she really brought out the hot in Simon. She would have been awesome for him. I like to think that someday she'll retire from the senate and run into said cute doctor on a backwater world....

I would have gone with horrified in that scene if Neil wasn't so awesome!

Speaking of horrifying, what was Tim Minear thinking in that bathhouse-on-Sihnon scene? I never wanted to see that, ever! Not enough brain bleach in the world! On the other hand, that episode was also the one with Mal finally telling Inara how he feels--and wasn't that some beautiful writing?--so I forgive him.

Yeah, as a person of faith, it didn't bother me that he was talking about faith but that he was talking in such a wishy-washy, anything goes sort of way. Grow a backbone, man!

….Hee, but you know, between all this and that article you posted, I’m starting to wonder what Joss would’ve done with the multi-cultural issue, if the show had continued to run. Because…well, I really don’t want to think he set out meaning to have racist implications. Oh, I'm sure he would have continued to fail. It's what he does re: race. *sigh* I know he doesn't mean to, but he really, really does.

I'm now crying that I'll never seen NPH and Rose Byrne in these roles. CRYING! Well, not really, but you know what I mean!

What I noticed about Joss is, he fails a lot when he tries to explore things that it seems he doesn’t understand (races, religion). D: I always thought Book was like a watered-down version of whatever idea of faith they could throw together.

Anyway…Mal-Inara roller-coastered all that season, but that scene? Made it all worthwhile <3 Remember the looks they were shooting at each other when Book named them Noah’s godparents?

They had an opener with both of them standing over the crib and cooing (well, as much as Mal can coo) over the baby! How ship-tastic was that?

I know a lot of fans complained about Zoe being pregnant for an entire season but wasn’t it nice to see something so normal for once? I have to disagree with the fans saying she lost her military edge ---love how she was all ‘I’m gorram pregnant, get out of my way’ with the crew. (I was laughing all through that episode where she had that strawberry craving and ate everyone else’s share—poor Kaylee! )

And the scene after that battle when she realizes she almost lost Noah was so intense: Zoe furious at herself and breaking down, Wash -even though he’s still clearly shell-shocked from having to hack up that guy- being the strong one.

Adam Baldwin said that even he got teary-eyed during the shoot— you know, when Jayne had that “hug-and-cry-session Do. Not. Want” look on his face.

(Same! I’ll never see the cast act all these out! Argh.)

This whole thread is FABULOUS. Just sayin'.

Isn’t it? :D

Looking at your icon makes me think of “U-Day” when Jayne actually does convince the Blue Sun that he’s a PR officer. XD Yeah, he pulled it off after Inara instructed him endlessly (that whole coaching session was comedy gold) but I was proud of him—he didn’t cave once except when they sat down to dinner (and even then, those guys really dug his technique with his knife and the shellfish).

Also, that episode gave us Simon all smooth and dapper-tastic in military garb so thank you Joss. I’m still convinced that Sean Maher wore a beard all through S4 for that ep alone. Worth it.
I can’t say the same for Alan Tudyk’s moustache—talk about distracting!

[identity profile] rebcake.livejournal.com 2010-01-15 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
*gasp!* You're absolutely right! It's the end of an (yet another) era! *sniff* Clearly, he'll show up in the web-based version. Right?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-01-18 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly, he'll show up in the web-based version. Right? Wouldn't that be awesome!

I wonder if he can sing....
