Fannish Friday
I got nothing for Fannish Friday today, so feel free to use the comments to talk about something your fannish about right now or some story you're engaging with and your thoughts about it, even if I know nothing about it at all. Talk fannish to me!
I feel like I have not had room to feel fannish feelings for the last week or two because I've been busy and when I've got downtown, I've just been walking documentaries instead of watching anything narrative and reading nonfiction instead of fiction. Let me live vicariously through someone else's fannishness!

Then Our Flag Means Death S2 aired, and where I liked S1 perfectly well and didn't think about it much, S2 rocked up and went 'Well, look at the clever things we are doing!', so now that's occupying a significant subsection of my brain.
And then there's the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary later this month, at which point my brain will probably explode.
Anyway, all my shows are very gay and can be analysed endlessly, so that's where I'm at. <3

I got interested in watching more New Zealand-y TV and discovered the dark comedy Creamerie (available on Hulu), which was riveting and I can't believe I hadn't heard of it before! It gets REALLY dark so I feel like I should recommend it with a general Yikes! warning, but it was a really fun and unique show with three great female leads and a really interesting dystopian setting. I hope there's more of that series on the way!
I have also been watching Reservation Dogs really slowly (since it's such a short series!) and it's just wonderful.

This is set in Australia instead of NZ, but it stars Madeleine Sami - have you watched Deadloch? It's also a very dark comedy with similar-seeming vibes.

Creamerie definitely has Deadloch vibes; it also reminded me a lot of one of my all-time faves, Orphan Black! It was really interesting to see that vibe compressed into a 25-minute show; I don't think I've quite seen that done anywhere else.

Yesssssss but also, if it doesn't get a S2, I will still feel so, so fulfilled by that PERFECT ENDING *all the crying laughing face emojis*

Huh! I've never heard of Creamerie, but I am definitely intrigued! I'm not put off by darkness (usually), so I might have to check it out!

I also zoomed through OFMD S2 and was very entertained by it but am also very put out by some weaknesses in the writing that I mostly attribute to stupid HBO cutting their budget/number of episodes (it's very much I'm-critiquing-it-so-strongly-BECAUSE-I-like-it-and-care-so-much rather than critiquing it from a place of dislike; I also rewatched S1 prior to watching S2, and that really emphasized the writing weaknesses in S2 and the impact of having only eight eps as opposed to ten).

That makes sense to me.

One species (as shown in Twice's "Signal" video) looks distinctly nonhuman, but for some reason is exceedingly attractive to humans. They apparently alter the genetics of humans, yielding X-Men style mutations and possibly the ability to interbreed with the aliens.
The other species (as shown in (G)i-dle's "I Do" and Hello Venus's "Would You Stay For Tea") has the ability to appear human, but their control over it is imperfect and their appearance will spontaneously shift at random intervals.
This is what I've got so far. I don't know which aliens are the "good guys" (if any) or "bad guys" (if any). I don't now yet what the aliens want, who my characters will be, or even what sort of story it will be. But this idea grabbed hold of me about a week ago and it won't go away, so I guess I have to work on it! ^_^
Here's hoping things look better for you soon!

I also enjoyed watching the Netflix 'Fall of the House of Usher' show with a friend, and while it didn't quite push my fannish buttons, it was entertaining and she was enjoying it so much that I got to have that vicarious love through her.

I know that feeling well! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm reading Slash's memoir (Slash from Gun N Roses) because I wanted to read about rockstars' drama. I tried Bono's (U2) memoir but didn't like his writing style. I'll give it a second try later. Hoping it's as spicy as Slash's story.
I listened to a good deal of Buck-Tick as a tribute to Acchan (Atsushi Sakurai) who passed away last month. It's snowing at the moment, so I'll allow myself to listen to Tarja's rock/metal Christmas song covers, and Raskasta Joulua's songs (Finnish metal Christmas songs). (Okay, I listen Loreena McKennit's Christmas songs all year long, I'm a hypocrite.)
For some reason unknown to me, I remembered Vernon's Black Eye existed. I did last year but quickly forgot about it. It prompted me to make a quick playlist of Korean rock songs. I already knew F.T Island, CN Blue, Jaejoong, Onewe, Day6 and Rolling Quartz, but why not expand my horizons (I'm more into J-rock and European metal, but Korean pop, r&B and hip hop)? Internet spies and the algorithm put The Rose and Xdinary Heroes in my youtube recs. I recently discovered 10CM, IZ and Jaurim, they're great. I'm glad to see Younha still makes music. She was the first Korean artist I discovered.
