Fannish Friday: Shows That Are You
There's a meme going around Tumblr asking for 8 television shows that you would show someone to get to know you.
I had a hard time narrowing them down, because I love a lot of shows! But these are the ones that I think most represent the range of who I am and what my interests are:
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - represents one of my most important fandoms, my age, my feminism, my love of fantasy shows, etc.
2. The Untamed - another one of my most important fandoms, represents my affection for non-English television, character-driven epics, really earned romances, sibling stories, etc.
3. The West Wing - represents my love of talky shows, ensembles, idealism, trying to make the world a better place, drama laced with humor, etc.
4. White Christmas (2010) - represents the years I spent watching k-dramas, my darker side, moral quandaries, my interest in psychological suspense, more ensembles, murder babies, etc.
5. New Girl - I do need one comedy, since I like them, even if I'm much much more of a drama person. This one is, to my mind, the representative millennial comedy (in the same way that Friends is the representative white Gen X comedy). I love every character too too too much.
6. Black Sails - represents my adoration of messy moral situations, anarchism, queer stuff, intricately crafted writing, and costume dramas.
7. The Hour - represents my interest in the power of writing/journalism, mysteries, the importance of democracy and the free exchange of ideas but also the truth, exploring class stuff, etc.
8. Star Treks - I am a nerd. Jk jk. This is all about my childhood, my idealism, my love of anything in spaaaaaace, sprawling (if messy and inconsistent) worldbuilding, hope for the future, scifi, and Vulcans.
Runners-up: Community, Healer, Press Gang, Shut Up! Flower Boy Band, Age of Youth, Designing Women, Andor
What 8 shows would you pick? Tell me in the comments (with as much or as little explanation as you like) or make your own post! I want to know y'all!

I've thought a little about why the shows I love appeal to me. But it never occurred to me to think about what the shows I love say about me. This will be interesting to chew on.

1. The Untamed: Current, most important love that I can't see changing any time soon. It's got everything: compelling characters, intriguing plot and drama, pretty visuals, great acting.
2. The Animals of Farthing Wood: Formative childhood experience. Established my love for foxes and is just a very good show overall. With a very good German dubbing.
3. Sailor Moon: Another formative show. Established my love for anime.
4. Sherlock: Was huge for me for some time. The first two seasons are still very dear to me. I love mysteries in general and I love Sherlock Holmes.
5. Good Omens: I love everything about it, the humour, the characters, the quirkiness, the plot, the visuals.
6. The Tudors: Historical drama with awesome costumes, baby! XD
7. KinnPorsche. Hot, morally questionable men being very problematic and sexy with or without clothes on. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
8. Fleabag: Messy characters and a fun narration style.
There likely would be others if I'd actually watched them yet... (*/ω\*)

You're spot on about New Girl! I also saw your post about whatever the Gen Z comedy is going to be, but did you know that Gen Z loves Friends and that's part of its resurgence? Yeah. Yeah. A thing!
Your list is far more intellectual than mine! Mine were more like "this is crunchily mollivanders" (which is still how I think of my fandom self, and probably always will be!). I went with: Battlestar Galactica; The Borgias; Farscape; Julie and the Phantoms; Lost; T: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Veronica Mars; and of course, Xena: Warrior Princess. Full of formative fandom experiences, peak fandom joy, stuff that made me think a lot and still does; and sweeping stories that pull me back every time.

I might do a journal entry about the ones I picked on Tumblr later! Thanks for the inspiration. :D

I'm interested that we don't have any shows in common across our lists! I did nearly put The Untamed in, because it's a super important show for me too, but I haven't even watched any of your other shows! (I mean, a few eps here and there of various star treks, and the first season and a half or so of buffy, but not enough to qualify as actually watching either one.)

1) You Can't Do That on Television, which probably did more to shape my small mind and sense of humor than anything else
2) Square One TV, because 80s, awesome, math, KATE MONDAY
3) Magica Juventud, the insane telenovela I watched practically every episode of despite not speaking Spanish, I might try and rewatch someday
4) The Kids in the Hall, I still want to visit Toronto someday
5) Monty Python's Flying Circus, can't hide it, also speaks to my relationship with my dad
6) Buffy: college feels, several varieties of disappointment
7) The Dan Patrick / Keith Olbermann SportsCenter
8) Ranking King, who are we kidding

Also: Press Gang!!! XD
I think I will have to steal this, even though whenever I do these particular flavour of things (it was films last time), my list is, even if ok individually, collectively a nightmare! (tl;dr, my brain is a weird one.)

Buffy. Obviously.
Frasier. Because it’s intelligently silly and I love it.
Elementary. By far my favourite Sherlock Holmes (and often my favourite crime show).
Farscape. My favourite space show.
The West Wing. So very brilliant.
After that, it gets trickier. Things that spring to mind include Gentleman Jack, Red Dwarf, Leverage, Smallville, The Good Place, and Stargate. But I’m not sure which ones are most ME.
