Icon meme!

1. Comment to this entry with something silly and I will pick 3 of your icons/userpics.
2. Make an entry in your own journal (or just reply if you prefer) and talk about the icons I picked!

Mine were chosen by [personal profile] thisbluespirit:

I made this one! I wanted an Evie icon that showed her working in the library (there are lots of her reading, but not so many of her working in the library) so that I could use it for anything related to my own library career. I'm still not 100% convinced that the text placement works, but I have such a hard time with text in icons! They're so tiny! You don't want to cover things up! Also so many of my favorite fonts look so bad in tiny form!

Isn't this beautiful? Obviously I needed an icon of The Hour since it's top-five favorite show material. I could have gone with Bel or Freddy because I love them as much as Lix, but this particular shot of her with the film is just so great.

Another one I made! I wanted a cat icon! But it's so hard to pick between the billions of cute cat pictures online. As one of my major icon-collection themes is books, I liked this particular stock picture for combining the kitten and books. I played a lot with the coloring on this one, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I like vivid colors, in case you can't tell. Many people prefer icons that are more muted, but give me vividness or give me death!

You don't have to say something silly--just let me know if you want me to pick you some icons!

Aw, bless, I should have said I wasn't asking for any myself, just complimenting your nice icons! Thank you anyway, you're very nice *and* you have good taste, because the third one you chose was made by [personal profile] thisbluespirit :D

I've done it before so I'm good. It's a fun meme though.

It is a beautiful shot of Lix! That's why I chose it. And I think the text placement in Evy's works just fine. You've got to just sort of be bold with text; let it obscure things or background it or go where it fits, and use layering to make it clearer (or not worrying about clarity because it's texture).

The kitty is so cute! And do go ahead and choose some of my icons!

Ha, well I do love text icons! They are such fun to make.

#1 is from a 1960s boardroom drama called The Power Game, which I watched because it had 4 eps with James Maxwell (my old tv fave) in and actually existed and things, and it turned out to be one of the snarkiest things ever. And feel the sentiment of this one a lot! (The person the character is talking to just says, "Well, it's your head. I just provide the wall."

#2 is a Cruella de Vil quote from OUaT that I thought would make a fun icon.

And #3 is the ever-amazing Gemma Jones as Louisa Trotter in The Duchess of Duke Street, a 1970s period drama based on a true story. (In S2, Julian Fellowes turned up as a minor character and walked off with various plots to reuse later in Downton. XD)

There was a point where I was literally too ill to cope with modern TV but interesting 1970s TV that moved at a slower pace turned out to be fine, so, yes, I have watched lots of it! It's a bit worrying, really. I'm anything from 30-50 years behind the times...
