because what else am i going to do while at work?

A random comment by [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders gave me an idea for a meme:

Give me a text (book, TV show, movie, etc.) and I will tell you what I would have done differently if I had written it. Not little details, necessarily, but big plot or theme or characterization choices.

Hmmm...this is hard! Very hard! Since I read those books so often at such a young age they're like part of my heart, you know?

Rilla is almost flawless, but I would probably have more of Ken so that we could really get to know him.

I also could have used more Gilbert interaction in Anne of the Island.

I would have written more about Anne trying to keep up with her college friends--Phil and Stella and Priscilla--in later books. And Diana of course.

But other than that, nothing is really coming to mind!

After I commented I realized there was very little I could think of to change. They are quite well written and solidly plotted, with every choice making sense for the characters within the scope of seeing the world through Anne's eyes.

Maybe more Marilla, and how Anne's perception of her changes as Anne matures and has children.

Oooh. That's a good suggestion!

Rilla of Ingleside is actually my favorite in the series after the first one. She looks after the baby despite disliking babies and thinking THIS IS SUCH AN UGLY BABY. And Walter :( AND WALTER AND UNA it makes me sad everytime.
