lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([kd] what kind of person is she?)

my life in bulletpoints

+ Okay, so I did this thing where I wrote a scene for my novel before I actually started writing the novel in the proper order (I do this a lot). And I liked it! It was a good scene! So I was kind of writing toward it, if that makes any sense, and I was really looking forward to reaching the point where I could plug it in to the story.

Well, I just reached that point only…I realize that I wrote it from the perspective of Boy Character when the rest of the novel has been from the POV of Girl Character. SO I HAVE TO REWRITE IT. Even though it’s really good as it is! *sigh*

+ I have (at least) two big climactic scenes in the novel (because my novel is a lady, not a man), and I’m getting very close to the first one and FREAKING OUT. What if it doesn’t have the right emotional resonance? AAAAAH! I can’t figure out why this is so much harder for me than fic is. Is it a psychological thing? Was fic this hard for me when I first started writing it? (That was over 10 years ago! I don’t remember!)

+ Even if you have no interest in Kdramas, you should probably get on Hulu or Dramafever and watch City Hunter. It is so damn accessible. And Korean Batman >>>>>>>> American Batman. Plus: best heroine EVER! She hella competent and strong and has taken care of herself for years but she’s also incredibly emotionally open and adorable, which is a combination I don’t feel like you see a lot of? She’s the best. And check out these boyfriends (unless you're a spoiler-phobe. But I feel like it's only vaguely spoiler-y?).

+ Also, Lee Min Ho is rather attractive.

Photobucket

So there’s that.

+ The kdramas I've been watching lately (specifically Mawang and City Hunter) have these fantastic, complex relationships between guys, especially guys who are very different (think, like Spike and Angel level complex). And I love them. If I was going to be a big slasher, I would slash the heck out of kdrama guys. BUT. It makes me sad that there are no complex relationships between ladies. They're either A) good friends but usually not on a complex or plot-related level or B) competitors/enemies. And hey--this is a problem with Western TV, too, I just happen to be watching more Korean TV at the moment. And it makes me wistful. Why is it that guys get all the nuances of relationships and ladies never do? It makes me pout.

+ You know what was a good show? Recess. I was probably a little too old to be watching it, but I enjoyed it so much with the King of the Playground and the Mean Girl clique of all the girls named Ashley (and then that one random girl who WASN’T named Ashley, and they had a whole episode where the truth came out that one of the Ashleys wasn’t really an Ashley and it was THE DRAMA) and kickball being the Most Important Thing in the World. I was thinking of the episode the other day where the big guy (whose name I can’t remember) sings in the bathroom (and I feel like he was singing “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” or something like that) and he sounds fantastic but then when he sings outside the bathroom he can’t sing at all? And for some reason the other characters need him to sing outside of the bathroom so they, like, put toilets or something in the place where they need him to sing so that he can pretend it’s the bathroom? LULZ.

Anyway, that was a good show.

+ Vampire Diaries meta all over my flist all the time. How does this show that started out so silly inspire so much awesome meta? Damon Salvatore's self-awareness, I love you.

+ And, as expected:

+ Let us not talk about Sansa beating Buffy. I love Sansa loads, but BUFFY ♥♥♥♥♥

+ I actually cannot choose between Scully and Donna. I ended up going with Scully but only barely. HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY MAKE ME CHOOOOOSE? Caroline vs. Veronica was also evil. EVIL EVIL EVIL.

+ Tami hasn’t got a chance in hell, but you should vote for anyway. *wistful sigh*

[identity profile] eilowyn.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
SCULLY AND DONNA IS THE WORST. Two badass redheads going . . ., er, head to head? How are we supposed to chooooooooose? (I voted for Donna, so I'm kinda glad you voted for Scully, because our votes cancel each other out and we're breaking even . . . does that make sense?)

I was so excited for Tami to go on to the second round! AND MIRANDA'S BEATING SHELDON! I don't even watch that show (beyond seeing everyone's gifs from it) and I'm excited! And did you notice that the second round of the teen and the sci-fi/fantasy categories were ALL LADIES? I feel so very disloyal to Community for voting for Robin, but it was so nice to see someone other than Barney up there that I got excited. AND CJ's GOING ON TO THE NEXT ROUND! I don't see excessive fannishness about TWW (other than when a person on my f-list discovers it and I begin to feel guilt about that missing Netflix disc that halted my watching it - see [livejournal.com profile] gryfndor_godess) so it's really, really nice to see her winning. President Bartlett would be proud.

Sansa vs. Buffy hurt physically. I was so sad to see Buffy go down in the first round, but the Sansa fans were campaigning like crazy and trading votes like crazy, and the Buffy fans, so used to our girl coming out on top, were kind of stunned. I took the "In life the monsters win" line from the Sansa campaign and added "unless Buffy Summers is there" to it, but my clever wordplay wasn't enough. Even stealing all of [livejournal.com profile] coalitiongirl's Buffy gifs from tumblr wasn't enough
.
And then there's Veronica vs. Caroline. I had to go with Veronica because we've had a much longer relationship, and I owe her my loyalty for the summer she got me out of a bout of depression.

And stop tempting me with the kdramas! I already feel guilty for planning on wasting precious study time one Community and TVD when they come back from hiatus, so it's becoming a thing, Lauren!

Totally makes sense. I was so torn! I had the hardest time choosing! OH OH OH.

Miranda is the most glorious character in the world, so should definitely be excited!

And did you notice that the second round of the teen and the sci-fi/fantasy categories were ALL LADIES?

I KNOOOOOOOOOOOW.

I voted Abed, but I won't be put out if Robin wins.

I am heartbroken over Buffy. I love Sansa like mad, but there's no way she's a better character than OUR GIRL.

I don't even remember who I voted for with Veronica vs. Caroline. I love them both so muuuuch.

Oh, man, I cannot wait till Community and TVD come back!

I can't help it with the kdrama evangelism! There is so much good TV out there that isn't Western, and I want the world ot know!

Omg, Recess was THE BEST. Remember when the tough girl (... Spinelli, I think) was discovered to be an Ashley and won a beauty pageant? And and and when the smart girl bonded with one of the Ashleys and they watched an eclipse or something? I loved the girls of Recess. And the hippie teacher and the butch teacher. And, yes, the large opera singing boy (Mikey or Mickey) and his crush on the music teacher, yessss! There was also something about pharaohs that sent my budding id into a frenzy, I think.

Also, can't you save the Boy POV scene and eventually put it up as a bonus your Authorly Website? I just read an awesome, steamy, weird short story on Kate Elliott's website (recced by a friend) and I'm DEFINITELY reading her books as soon as I can!

[identity profile] laeria.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, Pepper Ann, did you watch Pepper Ann? Best gender-weird three-way friendship ever. (There were bras! I'm pretty sure her arty male friend ended up helping her choose a bra?)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Pepper Ann, Pepper Ann way too cool for seventh grade, Pepper Ann she's like one in a MILLION!

Yes. :D

And I do have the sharpest memories of the bra-one! They were going to jump on trampolines in PE and the teacher told them they needed support, and she thought that meant bras! So she had to pick one out and she gets up on the trampoline and the teacher's like, "Where's your support?" And she's like, "Right here!" And they go back and forth for a few minutes until SHE PULLS UP HER SHIRT to show off her support!

And then the teacher is like..."I meant you need a buddy up there with you."

And Pepper Ann's all, "Oh."

And then she and boy buddy get up there together. LOLOLOL!

[identity profile] laeria.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god support, yesssssssssss. Do people actually use "support" to euphamise "bra", by the way?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess they probably do? But not often.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
was discovered to be an Ashley and won a beauty pageant

YES YES YES THAT ONE WAS SO GOOOOOD.

Mikey! That was his name!

Hahaha! I like this idea!

I AM IN AWE OF YOUR NOVEL-WRITING, YAY YOU.

Recess was SO AWESOME! I actually do say things WHOMP. It's the perfect word! It says exactly what I mean without any possible gross gender-slamming interpretation! It's all up on youtube.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you! I'm so pleased with myself, even when I'm freaking out, I cannot even. I might actually finish this one!

It's on youtube! CHECKING IT OUT. I was being all nostalgic, but it's been so long since I've seen it!

Where is the TVD meta???? I want some! :)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of it's by [livejournal.com profile] ever_neutral and [livejournal.com profile] upupa_epops and probably most of it is flocked. I don't know if you're friends with both of them, but if you're not an you're interested in TVD meta, you should be!

[identity profile] ceciliaj.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Why thank you! I am lucky enough to be friends with both of these lovely meta writers. ALso, super duper many congratulations for your current writing productivity. I am inspired by your commitment, and would like to rent your brain :o).

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-12 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good! It usually takes me a few days to get around to reading their stuff, so I don't think either one of them have posted in a few days. But I just read one of [livejournal.com profile] ever_neutral's last night and flailed.

Thank you so much! It takes a whole lot of will power that I didn't know I had to force myself to work at least four days a week. *sigh* I will I just felt inspried every day.

Your writing woes are ones close to my heart. I never write stories in order. And then I proceed to live in a box full of my regrets.

Damn, your kdrama stanning is making me want to watch ALL THE KDRAMAS LMAO.

Damon Salvatore's self-awareness, I love you.

lol what up.

Aww, I'm rooting for all the underdogs this round. This year truly is evil, but I figure that the Buffys/Scullys/Veronicas always go far, you know?

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-13 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes the out-of-order thing works. But when it doesn't, it is a headache.

Damn, your kdrama stanning is making me want to watch ALL THE KDRAMAS LMAO.
If you did, I would weep with joy.

I understand this. I'd pegged Leslie for the win, but I almost want Sansa to win at this point just because of how much hate she usually gets.

check out these boyfriends

*le sigh* aren't they just? I <3 that moment.

Also, Lee Min Ho is rather attractive.

HE IS GORGEOUS AND MY FAVORITE AND I LOVE HIS STUPID FACE.

Also - there's a running joke with his characters and ramen/kimchee that I have to imagine is about Lee himself - basically that boy never stops eating everyone else's food and I find it incredibly endearing.

*has problem*

It makes me sad that there are no complex relationships between ladies.

Check out Boys over Flowers - in the second season there is a really interesting female-female relationship/dynamic. It isn't explored as fully as it should be, but basically they LOVE EACH OTHER so hard that they .

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-13 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I pretty much flailed whenever they were in a room together. BOYFRIENDS.

I find this incredibly endearing as well.

This is tempting! Yay for ladies!
