lirazel: An outdoor scene from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock ([kd] if we go together)

finished city hunter last night!

Some closing thoughts on City Hunter, which was very, very good.

+ I thought the denouement was a little too brief. Honestly, I think you could watch the show and come away thinking that Lee Yoon Sung was really dead. Plus, I would have it would have been nicer to see some interaction between Yoon Sung and Na Na. They had so little of it after their little moment at SEA WORLD OMG THAT WAS FABULOUS.

+ That said, the actual ending, with everybody shooting everybody else and with Yoon Sung's dad confessing to be the City Hunter. That was fantastic.

+ Na Na didn't have enough to do in the last few episodes. I missed her!

+ Awwww! Mr. Prosecutor died! In such a horrific way! All that blood! I hadn't decided whether I really loved him or not. I respected his commitment to justice, but he was so uptight and not good enough to his ex-wife (who I liked very much) that I wasn't completely won over. UNTIL HIS DEATH SCENE when he told Yoon Sung he would have to be the one to stop the dude because, "I don't think I can go right now." BOOM. Won over. And then he died! I knew he would from the time he left his ex-wife at the hospital and they had that slow-motion view of her over his shoulder.

+ I also knew that the president was Yoon Sung's dad long before the show actually confirmed it. I suspected it from the moment that his mom said, "You're just like him" and when Yoon Sung said "Like my dad?" and she made this weird face. And then I knew from the moment he was eating beans with the president and the daughter. So I was pleased to be proved right. Interesting twist, that.

+ Lee Min Ho definitely had to do his own stunts--the way they shot everything made it very clear that was him, and I was super impressed by all he did.

+ Interesting moral questions raised with the president who wants to accomplish good things but does the wrong thing to do it.

+ I forgot to say last time that it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that really City Hunter was just Batman--I think it was the third or fourth episode.

+ This show was by far the most political I've seen; it makes me wish I knew more about Korean politics and the social situation over there, so I could see what kind of things it was addressing.

+ This was definitely one of the most well-made shows I've seen. It was at its best in the middle, but start-to-finish it was just very well done.

LEMME TELL YOU HOW LEE MIN HO OWNS MY SOUL.

That was it. :)

Honestly, I think you could watch the show and come away thinking that Lee Yoon Sung was really dead.

They want to do a second season, by Lee is tired - all that stuntwork? He won't do it - he wants another straight-drama first.

The ending - Holy lord. Nana is such a BAMF, I love her little face.

I wasn't completely won over. UNTIL HIS DEATH SCENE

YOUR FEELINGS ARE MY FEELINGS! I mean, I loved him - but mostly because I thought his stiffness was a perfect contrast to Lee's boyishness and I really wish we had had more of them working together.

Lee Min Ho definitely had to do his own stunts--the way they shot everything made it very clear that was him, and I was super impressed by all he did.

Dude. This boy. And his stunts. And his face. And his eternal love for kimchee and ramen. He OWNS ME.

I forgot to say last time that it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that really City Hunter was just Batman

This is how Roomie and I generally present the show to others: "Want to watch Korean-Batman?" ... generally we just get raised eyebrows but...

This was definitely one of the most well-made shows I've seen. It was at its best in the middle, but start-to-finish it was just very well done.

I just... Agree. On so many levels.

HE DESERVES TO OWN YOUR SOUL.

Though I was looking at picture from Boys... and WHAT WAS THAT ON HIS HEAD? His hair looked soooooooooo baaaaaaaaaaaad. He is far more attractive in City Hunter.

They want to do a second season, by Lee is tired - all that stuntwork? He won't do it - he wants another straight-drama first.

Maybe he can take a little break and come back? I still hold out hope that now that JJH is back they'll make a second series of Goong.

Nana is such a BAMF, I love her little face.

SHE SO IS. I LOVE HER MADLY.

I mean, I loved him - but mostly because I thought his stiffness was a perfect contrast to Lee's boyishness and I really wish we had had more of them working together.

I know, I know! I totally agree about that contrast being fantastic. I wanted them to have more interaction! I was yelling at the screen while Prosecutor-guy was getting beat up, "Yoon Sung! Hurry up and get there! Your boyfriend is getting beat up and you have to save him!"

It so is Korean Batman! Except that I love it more than American Batman!

HE DESERVES TO OWN YOUR SOUL.

He just is the cutest thing on the planet.

He is far more attractive in City Hunter.

His hair is quite the curly in BoF - but it didn't bother me at the time. However - YOU SPEAK TRUE WORDS.

MOAR GOONG! This is what my life needs!

(I just flashed to the last ten seconds and my heart jumped a little... I need all the things.)

"Yoon Sung! Hurry up and get there! Your boyfriend is getting beat up and you have to save him!"

Pretty much half of City Hunter is Lee Min Ho bouncing up and down saying "Wanna play? Wanna play? Let's play! Please play?" and then Prosecutor says, "I shun your playfulness with my stoicism." And! It's really unfortunate!

"Yoon Sung! Hurry up and get there! Your boyfriend is getting beat up and you have to save him!"

OMG THESE WERE MY THOUGHTS!!! Why?!?! Why don't these boys know that they love each other?

OMG YES. HE IS SUCH A PUPPY when he's not being angsty!

I knooooooooooooow. I spent Mawang calling the boys boyfriends, too. THEY LOVE EACH OTHER THEY JUST DON'T KNOW IT.

Oh, hey! Have you seen Personal Taste/Preference? Because I'm really feeling Lee Min Ho right now, so I'm thinking of checking that one out next and I want to know if it's good.

I haven't!!! I can't seem to find it... Is it on crunchyroll or dramafever? Because I remember looking for it and not finding it before...

The last five-six episodes don't work nearly as well for me, but I figure that it's pretty amazing that they managed a really good 14 episode run considering that around the 6 episode mark, they were probably forced to film two one-hour episodes a week and had to keep up that schedule to the end. It's no wonder kdramas go off the rails when they have those kinds of production schedules.

There was a story going around when City Hunter was on that Lee Min Ho did a stunt one day and then didn't get up off the ground afterwards. When the crew got worried and checked, they realized he'd fallen asleep. Seriously, how exhausted do you have to be to fall asleep after what had to be an adrenaline rush?

There was speculation pretty early on that the President was Yoon Sung's dad and someone on Tumblr said that she hated the idea (because it would have meant mom cheated on Moo Yul), which made me start to think that maybe Moo Yul was noble and stepped up after she was already pregnant. And that helped me piece together pretty much everything in the last third of the season.

There has been a lot of talk about a follow up season, but now that Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young seem to have called it quits (at least last that I heard), I worry that it may not happen.

I think my favorite part about City Hunter was that while it was airing, I was getting all meta about it in a way I never get about kdramas because there isn't anything to figure out. It was one of my favorite things about VM, too. Speculating about mysteries and how season-long arcs will come together is one of my favorite things. Too bad I can's seem to find any shows that allow me to do that right now.

Yeah, the last run didn't thrill me as much, either, but I still thought it was solid compared to a lot of shows I've seen. It suffered from a lack of Na Na, though. :D

Good Lord. That's ridiculous.

And WOW, no wonder he wants to take a break if he was that exhausted.

Yeah, Moo Yul was apparently a great guy, stepping up like that.

I'm torn on a second season: if it's not as good as the first, I'll be disappointed, but if it's that good, I will be THRILLED. So I don't know.

I was getting all meta about it in a way I never get about kdramas because there isn't anything to figure out.

Yup! Way fun!
