some things

Good morning! I have some random thoughts to share with you because this is my journal.

+ One of the things I love about City Hunter (besides its general EXCELLENCE) is that people actually figure things out. So many plots rest on people being stupid and not seeing what’s right in front of their faces, and I like that this show lets people be smart and put things together LONG before most shows would let them. Then it develops NEW ways to generate suspense instead of just dragging out the old ones forever to the point of disbelief. Good job, show!

+ Lee Yoon Sung has a sense of humor, and I like that about him. Yeah, he’s typically angsty, but he also is a goof. I imagine if he’d been raised by his mother, he would just be a goof all of the time. Favorite lines include: “I care a lot about my hairstyle” and “You wrinkled my clothes.” There was also something he said the first time he took a shower at Na Na’s house that was HILARIOUS but I cannot now remember what it was. Alas.

+ Kim Na Na is one of the most excellent heroines EVER. She’s brave and capable and kick-ass, but she’s also really emotionally open, and I love that. I am forever in love with [Unknown site tag]when she tells Yoon Sung that her feelings are hers, and she’s not going to force them on him but that he needs to cut it out with the being a jerk in attempts to push her away. Best thing EVER.

+ I am seriously considering shelling out $70 so I can own Mawang on DVD. We’ll see if I actually do it.

+ I am getting really giddy-excited in anticipation for The Borgias. LUCREZIA AND CESARE MY LOOOOOOVES. And Juan’s stupid face!

+ Also getting excited about Hunger Games! I have so many mixed feelings about the books, but I did love the first one straight-up, and the BFF and I are going for her birthday, so I am pleased. Also, Katniss remains awesome, even if her books don’t quite measure up to her.

+ My novel writing continues to go wonderfully. I shall not say more for fear of talking myself into a bad place. But I really do actually think I could get this one published, y’all. After a TON of cleaning it up, obviously.

+ On the other hand, I have written NO FIC in what feels like forever, so y'all should encourage me to do that.

And now for some FMM-related thoughts:

+ The Happy Endings poll makes me happiest of all the polls because the love is spread so evenly amongst the characters (except for Dave. Sorry, Dave). A show where everyone is that loved? Very rare, and it makes me happy.

+ Robin is just baaaarely beating Barney. I am going to cry if he beats her. I really am.

+ I don’t understand why Chris wins the Skins spot EVERY YEAR. I love Chris, but he’s that beloved? I just don’t know. I voted for Grace because of REASONS. But I also could have gone with Michelle or Tony.

+ I wish all the Damon voters would switch their votes to Elena as Damon CLEARLY would want them to do. I love Caroline like mad, and I will campaign for her against loads of people, but I just wish Elena could win this year. *wistful*

+ I wish I could come up with a fandom institution as awesome as the Fandom March Madness or Yuletide because the idea of bringing that much joy to fandom just makes me happy.

Okay, I'm here as the voice of fiscal responsibility, or something. How are you watching kDramas now? We got a Roku box, and the crunchyroll (free) channel has loads of them. Even stuff that's ridiculously expensive to get on DVD. It's probably also all available at crunchyroll.com, though I haven't checked.

I only mention it because we had friends that shelled out $160 or so for an epic kDrama that we had access to for free (after purchase of Roku box, of course). Just sayin'.

Fic: you should write some. It'll be great!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm mostly either watching on dramafever or torrenting. But apparently most of the dramas on crunchyroll.com have been taken down, alas.

What is a Roku box? I'm interested!

I've already seen Mawang and love it madly, so I would be buying it the way I do BtVS and such, rather than because I don't have access to it. I only buy things I know I'm going to love forever.

And yay for fic encouragement!

I don't know which ones you've seen, but I did notice that a lot of kdramas are now on Hulu? (I know nothing about them, so that is the extent of my useful information, lol.)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
On regular Hulu? Huh. I'll have to look into that!

[identity profile] kwritten.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with all our City Hunter feelings!

There was also something he said the first time he took a shower at Na Na’s house that was HILARIOUS but I cannot now remember what it was. Alas.

Me either now!!! I get the feeling that Lee Min Ho is just a natural goof - like Rupert Grint - and that comes out in his dramas: much of his timing is similar to how he behaves in Boys... Also - he did all of his own stuntwork, which is pretty incredible. I pretty much fangirl all over him whenever I can.

Kim Nana is by far and away one of my favorite Kdrama heroines - she is so fierce! <3

Love hearing your reactions!!!

[I really should get back to watching Mawang but alas - haz not had time/patience for subtitles this week]

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I have such an affection for goofy guys (as long as they also know when to be serious). And Rupert Grint is the best.

get the feeling that Lee Min Ho is just a natural goof - like Rupert Grint - and that comes out in his dramas: much of his timing is similar to how he behaves in Boys...

I've become really fond of him! And I am SO impressed by his stunt work. Seriously? That's amazing.

Kim Nana is by far and away one of my favorite Kdrama heroines - she is so fierce! <3

She is! I love her madly!

I understand!

[identity profile] kwritten.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And I am SO impressed by his stunt work. Seriously? That's amazing.

Yeah - my Roomie and I investigated because there's NO WAY that they could have found a stunt-man with Lee Min Ho's build - that boy is TALL and THIN. Also, even with his mask on, you can tell that those are his eyes.

I've become really fond of him!

Yeay!!

She is! I love her madly!

Kim Nana has the benefit (for me) of being my first adult Kdrama heroine - as much as I love my girls (Chaekyung/JanDi) - she's a woman in her own right and I really just love that about her.

Also - I have BIG FEELINGS for the Inspector - but I think it takes a while before he really is lovable.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's definitely got a very specific body-type. And yes, to the eyes.

she's a woman in her own right and I really just love that about her.

I love that very, much, too.

Also - I have BIG FEELINGS for the Inspector - but I think it takes a while before he really is lovable

The lawyer-dude with the vet ex-wife?

[identity profile] kwritten.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The lawyer-dude with the vet ex-wife?

Yes. Though - is he a lawyer? He really blurs the line between detective and lawyer - Roomie and I were never really certain what his job actually was, because he seems to be in the field a lot more than a lawyer should be.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's kind of like a district attorney role than like a regular lawyer? The phrase they use is "prosecutor." But you're right that it's definitely different than a Western role.

I voted for Grace because of REASONS.
I don’t get as into FMM as everybody else, but our Gracey badass didn’t win?? I’d have thought this would be her year, come on people!

.On the other hand, I have written NO FIC in what feels like forever, so y'all should encourage me to do that.
Mmmm, if you mean "get prompt-y": AU happily married, kdrama-esque Grace/Rich? DO IT, DO EEET.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they grouped all of the Skins characters together, so she was up against Gen 1 and 2, alas. I wanted her to win a LOT, though!

Mmmm, if you mean "get prompt-y": AU happily married, kdrama-esque Grace/Rich? DO IT, DO EEET.

OH MAN. OH MAN. I might have to do that. OH MAN. Like, they actually got married in the S5 finale? And now they're still babies but married babies? OMG I MIGHT HAVE TO DO THAT.

[identity profile] redsilverchains.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)

Ah, dang. That always does split the votes a ton.

And now they're still babies but married babies?
Married babies! Oh Skins, all that potential! *weeps*

Married babies, yesss, and then Alo is the chauffeur of their Just Married tractor, and Nick keeps accidentally knocking down Grace’s figurine collection at the house-warming party, and Franky freaksthrills them by making frilly black baby clothes as a wedding present, and and and!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. We would make the best fic team, because you come up with the best scenarios. You tell them to me, and I will write them!
ext_407741: (swagger like us)

[identity profile] redsilverchains.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Mwahaha, I imagine that Matty gave them some creepy-ass portrait as a wedding present. And it has eyes that follow them around. Grace hangs it up because she’s polite like that, and Rich doesn’t want to admit that it freaks him out. But of course she sees him tip-toeing and twitching around it… XD

Oh! And Grace and Maude so need to interact!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
YES YES YES. (Oh, Matty. How you fail at life.)

I love Maude SO MUCH. I have not watched any episode since Rich's, but if I find out that Maude showed up on Liv's, then I will watch Liv's just to see Maude.
ext_407741: (NO ONE)

[identity profile] redsilverchains.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually checked out Nick's episode just because Franky/Nick was my S5 crackship, and now I don't see why Matty needed to exist AT ALL. They could've given all of his Franky storyline to Nick (minus the weird staring).

It looks like Maude does show up, based from what I've seen on Tumblr. But there also appears to be a grave site scene. I don't know if my heart could take that!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see Franky/Nick, yeah.

now I don't see why Matty needed to exist AT ALL. They could've given all of his Franky storyline to Nick (minus the weird staring).

HAHAHA I LOVE YOU.

Oh! So torn! Maude vs. graveyard scene! What a decision!

I don’t understand why Chris wins the Skins spot EVERY YEAR. I love Chris, but he’s that beloved? I just don’t know.

Haha, I never paid attention to it before, since I only just watched Skins, but... yeah, that strikes me as odd. I figured Effy would be the favorite, but maybe my flist has biased me, lol.

On the other hand, LOOK AT ALL THE LADIES THIS YEAR. I am SO excited about that, just in general, even if my faves don't make it. (Elena! *sob*)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I would think Effy would be rated pretty high, too. Huh.

LOOK AT ALL THE LADIES THIS YEAR.

The tide has definitely turned!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah it surprises me too that Chris always wins. Cassie from Gen 1 and Cook from Gen 2 always came across to me as the fan favourites that you see talked about the most Idk. They seem to have massive fanbases, whereas Chris just seems like one of those characters that most people do like but isn't most peoples number 1 fav :clearly knows nothing:

I voted for Effy anyway *g*

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know Cassie is a big favorite. I never would have pegged Chris to pull in all those votes!

[identity profile] zombie_boogie.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of bummed that Jane didn't manage to get the Happy Endings nomination, but I too was pleased to see such well-spread out love for this cast of characters.

ROBIN WAS VICTORIOUS I COULD CRY, EH.

I saw that Jane lost with ONE VOTE when the cheaters were removed from the count.

I voted for Alex, and Penny is probably my second favorite character, but I know a lot of people would have been so happy to see Jane go through that had I known it was that close I totally would have switched to Jane.

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I ended up changing my vote from Brad to Jane in hopes she would win out, but I'm not too crushed. It's such a happy fandom!

YAY FOR ROBIN! SHE IS VICTORIOUS AS SHE DESERVES TO BE!

So, how far along are you now with City Hunter? Because it sounds like the middle, because there is a lot of figuring out stuff in the middle part and it's all kinds of awesome, especially if you've seen kdramas (and to some extent, any fictionalized television) before and know how things usually work - misunderstandings, crossed signals, general stupidity - all in the name of dragging things out for as long as possible.

Kim Na Na is so one of my favorites ever. And she's definitely got the cutest name of any kdrama heroine ever.

I will never understand people who don't grudge vote in Fandom March Madness, or people who don't pool their votes to defeat the fandom nemesis (Sheldon, Dean, etc). I mean, yes, you want to vote for your favorite, but is that really a point worth sticking to when your vote for that character means that a character you don't like goes through?

(Of course my whole thing this year is strategically placed votes to pave the way for Leslie to take the crown. Knope we can!)

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2012-03-08 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm about to start episode 15, so yeah, in the middle-ish.

- misunderstandings, crossed signals, general stupidity - all in the name of dragging things out for as long as possible.

The fact that they DON'T do this makes me SO HAPPY. I cannot even tell you. I seriously thought the show was going to be mostly over before Na Na figured out that he was the City Hunter. And then she figured it out so early! And so did Prosecutor Guy! And then they found his mom when I thought she'd be gone forever! Basically: things happened more like they really should, and I was appreciative.

Kim Na Na is so one of my favorites ever. And she's definitely got the cutest name of any kdrama heroine ever.

Yes indeed!!!

Oh, I totally grudge-vote. I changed my Molly Hooper vote to John Watson so he'd beat Sherlock (who I LIKE as a character but do not want to see win) and things like that.

KNOPE WE CAN INDEED!
