The first half of the episode, I was really loving it. Yes, I thought it was unrealistic that Grace woke up and immediately wanted to have sex, but other than that, it was working for me--Rich's despair, Alo trying to be a friend, and the whole episode was just gorgeous to look at.
But then the car drove right off the road, and I just have no interest in watching this show ever again. Not only because the writers have turned into caricatures of themselves with killing someone off EVERY GENERATION but also because I was watching this show for Grace and Rich. I really love Mini and Franky and Liv and have some affection for Alo and even what's-his-name (Mini's ex?) was growing on me. But Grace and Rich were my touchstone, and the show ripped that right apart. I refuse to trust this show ever again. My heart can't take it.
I cried so much even though it wasn't even well done, it was just maddening. Why do they have to kill someone off every second series?! And why'd they kill her in a nonsensically dramatic car chase that had to do with characters acting in totally inexplicable ways? This show is so frustrating because it has so much potential and it invariably wastes it.
I didn't even cry, and I'm a big giant sap, I'll cry at anything. I'm just...sick and numb at the same time?
Because this:
This show is so frustrating because it has so much potential and it invariably wastes it.
Could not sum it up better.
I still think that the first gen on the whole works for me, though there's obviously stuff in S2 that is a giant mess. Even killing off Chris made sense emotionally. This is starting to remind me of Joss's stuff, where when the death scene comes, instead of being emotionally affected, I scream, "I KNEW IT!" When the writer(s)(') ticks show up that much, it just kicks me right out of the story. I can't handle it.
They did. In the stupidest, most manipulative way possible. SHE WAS MY GIRL. She was at least 90% of why I was watching this show. I am so upset, Kyrie. I cannot even tell you. And not, like, mourning upset. Like, pissed-off upset.
So I guess that answers the question of whether I recommend you check out this generation.
AND APPARENTLY THEY RETCONNED THE UST BETWEEN FRANKY AND MINI? I have never watched this show in my life but all the good buzz for series five on Tumblr was making me consider it, what with the Shakespeare-quoting OTP and the genderbending and the girls kissing.
Yup, my exact reaction. I didn't even watch the episode; I found out something upsetting happened so I just watched the ending and that was enough. And from what we've seen of previews for the rest of the season, I think it's a good choice to stop here.
I mean, even beside it being totally unoriginal and stupid, Grace was my favourite character BY FAR and Grace/Rich was my main reason for watching so I'm just not interested anymore.

I hate this. *stabs* I cared sososo much about this group of kids (except Mattie, and I don’t know the new guy) and I really wanted to watch them grow up, but I cannot do that when I know that these writers have ruined my boy and my girl forever.
I’m with you: I am just going to clutch gen 1 to my heart for all time. And then maybe later, daydream of a kajillion ways on how this could have gone better for our kids (“Let’s make our lives a story and get away from this plot twist of fail.” “Yes, let’s. We can start a Shakespeare-themed metal band!”).
I confess, I haven't even peeked at it. I was saving them for a pick-me up (*snort*) and then I heard and no way could I put myself through that, and after the initial shock, I wanted to PUNCH the writers through the Internet.
I heard they had a gorgeous love scene so I might DL just for that. BUT THE REST. D:
I don't regret watching S5, though. I'll just leave them all at that party, all best friends (with the possibility any romance of the viewer's choosing), and RICH AND GRACE TOGETHER. Feh, whatever, they went back into that church and got married after all!
