Hee. I like the essence idea, because it fits that whole 'can you wipe away a soul' thing, but I also...kind of really dislike it at the same time, because it feels too some-people-are-just-born-bad-or-good and that feels really....simplified. And it contradicts a lot of what we've seen so far and BLAUGH I have no idea. Oh, show.
Madeleine Costley is an interesting lady, oh yes. I hope we get to see her again sometime, even just for an episode. I'm curious about how it would help her with her daughter's death too - the idea that they'd erase it for her is really, really creepy and awesome. Most of the Dolls we've seen are there because they were sold or to get away from crime/trouble with The Law and whatnot, but the idea that someone would sign away five years just for the Dollhouse to take away a specific memory is really interesting. Eeeeeee. *season two excitement*
I cannot wait for the Topher/Claire arc next season. I think that a Doll being in an imprinted personality and aware that they're a functioning human with a personality, but their entire life is basically a construct - that opens up awesome questions. I hope they look at that a lot; I like Echo, but Whiskey's arc seems more interesting that Echo's just piecing together things from bits of retained memory.
(Ooooh. That would definitely explain a lot - the Dollhouse doesn't seem all that altruistic as a business, but I could definitely see Topher doing something like that.)
(late comment ftw)
