"I Shall Rise Up"
Random thoughts from last night's episode!
First off, is it just me or has Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer's acting actually gotten worse? They were seriously wince-worthy during this episode, especially in the early scenes where they were angsting all over the place. It killed me!
+ Sarah Newlin's bit about what they're working on saving was soooo stolen from Spike's "Let's annihilate them, for justice, and for... the safety of puppies... and Christmas, right?" from S4. It was a lot funnier when Spike said. However, since I've felt from the beginning that what the show needs is more Buffy-esque humor, I'll forgive it and just be glad for the lightheartedness. Also, for the Newlins fighting on TV. Hysterical.
+ Bar none the best part of the episode was when Hoyt started naming all the things his mama hates. SO MUCH WIN. And he was all mature and standing up for himself! "I'm not a baby! I'm a grown-ass man!" HOYT FTW!
+ Speaking of Hoyt, he and Jessica remain the epitome of cuteness. NEVER CHANGE, YOU CRAZY KIDS. Watching Jessica try so hard when she met his mama was the sweetest thing ever. And then Mrs. Fortenberry launched off into a very Joyce Summers-esque, "She'll never be able to give you a normal life! I want you to have BAAAABIES!" talk, which both broke my heart for poor Jessica and made me giggle.
+ I still cannot figure out what Eric sees in Sookie. With Bill, it's perfectly obvious--he wants a little lady to protect. Sookie fits the bill. But Eric? The idea that he wants her but she doesn't want him is just stupid. If anything, it should be the other way around. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. There is absolutely no reason he should want her! Sookie's turning into a Mary Sue, all the hot vampires falling in love with her. I kind of hate it.
+ Jason keeps on being awesome. I love when he was doing his bit about "They like me for my athletic talent. And my good looks. And I'm great at sex." SO JASON. But when he said that when he was with the Newlins, his thoughts stopped rushing around in his head, I really felt for him. You know he's thinking of Eddie and Amy and his grandmother and parents, and honestly, the poor boy's been through a lot. I really am rooting for him.
+ Terry/Arlene is my other OTP for this show. I adore both of them so much, and though I never would have thought of them together, I think it works. She needs an actual good guy, and Terry is definitely that. Plus, she seems completely unconcerned most of the time about him being "peculiar" (btw, I'm going to start using the phrase, "I didn't mean to be peculiar at you" all the time now), which is what he needs from a woman.
+ I love Lafayette standing up for his cousin. Mostly because I think he's right about Eggs. I really do think we're going to find out bad things about him or he's going to betray Tara or something. I've got my eyes on him. I love that Lafayette teams up with Lettie Mae to get Tara out of there. I hope that once she's away from Maryann, her eyes will clear (heh!) and she'll figure out what's going on.
+ I am soooo over Maryann. This plotline better end damn soon, and it better end with Tara kicking some serious ass.
+ Eric is such a manipulative bastard, and I love it. He cracked me up so much when he's just lying there letting her suck his blood. Oh, man.
+ "In this I see God." I loooove Godric's death scene. I'm disappointed he won't be around anymore, because I find him very, very interesting, but his scenes in this were awesome. He really doesn't think like a vampire anymore. And watching Eric break down really moved me. It was just a well-done scene. I love his reasons for doing it. Fantastic.
