It's Joni Mitchell's birthday!

My favorite singer/songwriter of all times (yes, that even includes you, Bob Dylan.  And Townes Van Zandt, too) turns 65 today!  I've been listening to her albums all day long in celebration, and just like every time, I fall completely in love with her music all over again.  It amazes me that she manages to be so confessional, to plunge so deeply into her own soul while never seeming whiny or egotistical.  I always find something I can connect with in her music, and there have been moments when I'm certain that she has time-traveling and mind-reading powers with the way she can verbalize something I've felt a thousand times more beautifully than I ever could.  Her writing is so powerful, and she can absolutely startle me with the sheer beauty of her poetry.  Because there's no other way to describe her lyrics.  She is a poet.  A musician, a poet, a painter, and a brilliant human being.  Her music makes my life richer, and I'm so thankful she was born 65 years ago today.

Sometimes I think Joni is the sound track of my youth.

That's so lovely. She's definitely the soundtrack of my late teens/early twenties.

"Both Sides" was my absolute favorite song when I was nine years old. Even at such a young age I felt like she was speaking to me, and only me. I need more of her music. Everything you said about her is so very true. ♥

I adore that song more than words. I felt like she was speaking to me, and only me. I think all of us who love that song feel exactly the same way--I know I do.

She is the woman I'll never be. Damn her. *grumbles*

I know! That's exactly how I feel!

Though ... my vocals, I wish, are too rusty to be her's. *sighs* Still damn her.

By the time I'm her age ... I'll be alone ... drinking beer out of a paper bag.

You will not, silly thing. You'll be with me...drinking beer out of a paper bag...while I drink sweet tea out of a mason jar. It'll be a thing.

I can see us now ... old women begging for change to throw into your mason jar! This will be our living! I'll teach myself to play guitar and you can do rain dnacesa nd we'll be RICH!

This is now definitely my plan for life. You are a genius.

*flips hair* Well der.

And let's not forget when I train a cat to drink from canned soup is when the big bucks start rolling in. No longer will we be poor and pathetic, we shall be RICH ... and pathetic.

This just keeps getting better and better. Why have I not put you in charge of planning my life before this?

Because before this, I only knew of your existance through that delicious lit fic you wrote and how I use to grovel at the fact that you could leave longer reviews than me on mutual friend's journals.

Oh yes. I remember.

Now my revenge has come to full start.

RICH AND PATHETIC!
